For Birth Control "I have only been on Gianvi for a month and a half and absolutely do not like it. Started spotting while on active pills, then started bleeding heavily for over a week and still am. It’s a never-ending period!"

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I have been on Gianvi around 7 months now for PMDD. Prior to Gianvi, I had the copper IUD, which I didn't like. Every month, I would get suicidal depression before my period. I did the research and found out about PMDD. I started taking Gianvi, and my 1st month on it was the happiest I'd been in a while. I felt a lot more balanced and less stressed. Maybe it was a placebo effect because the following months weren't necessarily as great, but my PMDD was still WAY better. Last month, switched me to Loryna, which was making me feel so depressed and crazy, I stopped taking it after 2 weeks. After a lot of desperate searching, I found another pharmacy that carries Gianvi and am back on it. It has only been a few days, and I feel back to normal. I haven't had any negative effects, no weight gain, and if anything, my skin has improved. I know birth control isn't necessarily the most natural or healthy thing, but it is better than feeling suicidal every month. I have tried lots of different birth controls, and this is the only one I have liked."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I decided to write a review since I did not see anyone mention PCOS. I have been on Gianvi since October 2009. It is now June 2011. I initially took Yaz until I was switched to the generic version, Gianvi. Both medications have not given me any issues. My periods are normal, no cramps (I never had any to begin with), reduced acne, and maintained weight. I have always been an emotional person to some degree. This hasn't seemed to increase my emotions, and I do not get angry or get headaches as some have said. My only worry is getting blood clots or DVT, as I've recently read."

For Birth Control "Okay, I'll do pros and cons here because there is plenty to say for both: Pros: Cleared up my acne tremendously! I only broke out slightly around my period, but other than that, I was the clearest I had been since puberty! Also, my breasts went up about half a cup size, which is always fun. In terms of weight, I didn't notice much of a difference, neither loss nor gain. CON: It made me horribly depressed. It was a gradual slump, but after about 5 months on it, I went from being bubbly, social, and a dedicated student-athlete to someone who didn't want to do much but sit in bed and sleep all day. I was still sociable, but it took effort. I finally stopped Gianvi and was back to normal in a month. Everyone's different, but be careful on this medicine."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I took Gianvi for about a year for my PMDD. Since doing it, I noticed a very uplifting change in my mood and irritability. I was no longer aggressive, and I didn't burst into tears at least once a day before my period, so that is a definite improvement. I went off of it, changed to Loryna, and then changed back to Gianvi. Right now, I have horrible cystic acne from switching around my medicine, but it works wonders on my hormones, which to me is the important part."

For Birth Control "I was on Gianvi for about 2 years and have recently gotten off of it. The first 5 to 7 months, I felt quite emotional/anxious, I also went up about 1 cup size, and my skin was perfect. However, it did prevent pregnancy, so I'm thankful for that. It also decreased the heaviness of my cycle. And it was free with BCBS! About 1.5 years in, I began noticing that I had vaginal dryness and my libido was super low as well. Since I was so dry, sex started becoming very painful, and it seemed like no amount of lube could help. It has been just over 2 years, and I have decided to get off Gianvi for a few months to see if my problems disappear. So far, it has been about 1 week, and I feel really good. To anyone reading this post, I suggest you always listen to your body and find an understanding provider who can help you create a plan that you both agree on. Good luck!"

For Acne "I stopped taking Gianvi two months ago, and wow, was that a mistake. The first period I had was absolutely horrible. It was super heavy, lasted a long time, and my cramps were really bad. It has really messed up my hormones as well. I get so mad very easily, and I feel like a crazy person with emotions that I'm feeling that I never felt before. My breasts shrank a lot, and my acne has come back. So, I started taking Gianvi again a few days ago so I can get back on track to normalness! I don't want to wait for my body to adjust without it."

For Birth Control "I took Gianvi for 3 months, and I loved it. I lost weight (about 10 lbs) even though I was eating a lot of fast food and crap. My mood improved, I felt more motivated, and despite having some spotting a couple of days before starting my period, it did make my periods lighter and shorter with virtually no cramps. After three months, my insurance switched me to Loryna, which has been a nightmare. I've been on that for a month and had such horrible nausea constantly and was sick to the point of throwing up on several occasions and even threw my pill up once and had to take Plan B! It was a dreadful experience, and I'm going back on Gianvi today. Couldn't be happier! Give Gianvi a try, it's been awesome for me."

For Menstrual Disorders "I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and absolutely love Gianvi. This is my first birth control, and I've been on it for almost a year. I was diagnosed with PCOS, and my gyno put me on the medication. For me, I was getting periods every 9 months, which to some people is a dream. But not for me. Now that I've been on the pill, I do get it monthly, and it lasts me about 4-5 days. And it's done wonders for me. I've lost weight, my blood pressure has decreased. Used to be in the 160s, and my breasts have gotten larger. I don't suffer from mood swings, but I do get terrible cramps, but they're easily taken care of. And for acne, my skin has always been somewhat dry, so I haven't noticed a difference. I would recommend this for people."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "This pill was great for the first couple of months. My acne cleared, which was a problem due to my PCOS, and my periods were finally regular. I could feel these mood swings coming on, but I felt like a demon. This all hit me full force after I passed the third month. I was irritated at the smallest things, zero libido, it was an out-of-body experience. My self-esteem plummeted to where I never wanted to even look at myself, severely depressed and anxious, which I have not struggled with in the past, and gained 15 pounds out of nowhere. I couldn’t go an hour without crying. One day I almost had to pull over while driving because I couldn’t breathe. The way these hormones hit me was a nightmare, I am never ever going back to the pill. I’ve done too much trial and error for this, it’s not worth my mental health/state of mind. One week off of it and I feel like myself again, thank goodness. Avoid Gianvi if you want to keep your brain the same!!!!"

For Birth Control "I’ve just started to take this pill, I believe, 5 days ago, and I would say it’s working great. I haven’t had any problems other than fatigue and moodiness. I was skeptical about taking this pill since there were mixed reviews, but one of my good friends said that birth control pills work differently for everyone, so don’t be afraid to try it. My doctor prescribed me this one. This is the first birth control I took, and I don’t have anything bad to say about it. Don’t rely on reviews because it may work for you unlike others!!"

For Birth Control "I was really worried about starting on Gianvi after reading all of these negative reviews. It started out fine, with no major mood shifts. But then I started on my second pack and was in the depths of despair. I have a history of depression and anxiety, so I was not sure whether it was the birth control, but it got to the point where I was in such a dark place. I decided to stop Gianvi and instantly felt better. It was like a cloud lifted off my head. People react differently to this, so I’m not dissuading someone from trying it. But just be vigilant for the side effects."

For Birth Control "Does anyone experience stomach pain and discomfort from their birth control? I keep having to switch generic versions because after a few months, my stomach will just generally ache all the time. Nikki seems to be bad, as well as Loryna. I’m back to Gianvi, which was fine for the longest amount of time."

For Birth Control "I began taking Yaz about a year ago, and I love it. While on Yaz, I never noticed any changes in my mood or my body. However, within the last few months, I switched to the generic version, Gianvi, hoping to save some money. At first, I didn't notice any difference, but slowly, I have been getting more and more emotional and anxious... something that I have never had a problem with before. And now, I have been having a breakthrough period for the past 15 days straight while on my active pills. I am not sure if this is because of Gianvi, but I can't think of what else it could be. I will be switching back to Yaz ASAP. It is worth the extra money. I do not recommend Gianvi to anyone."

For Birth Control "If you have or had anxiety, DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL. From someone who suffers from anxiety day to day, this pill made me experience anxiety attacks like I've never felt before. Terrible depression followed, I never had a history of depression, and this pill gave it to me."

For Birth Control "I have been on YAZ for years and haven't had any issues switching over to Gianvi. I have been told by my doctor I may have PMDD. Gianvi hasn't made my symptoms worse, but I haven't felt any difference since switching over. I asked my doctor about her other patients switching to Gianvi, and so far none of them have had any issues either."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I loved Gianvi. I took it for about 5 years and noticed minimal side effects. I feel like birth control pills really help stabilize people who have hormonal mood problems to begin with; but if they are fine to begin with, they throw it off balance and cause side effects. I was not fine to begin with. Very irregular, heavy, painful periods, hormonal acne, and PMDD. Gianvi stabilized me. One thing I did notice was my hair growth pretty much stopped for some reason, which was weird. But that was the only side effect. Cleared my skin."

For Acne "I just started on this birth control. I switched from Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Unfortunately, I have horrible acne on my back and some on my face, especially during that time of the month. Since I started taking this birth control, I have noticed the acne on my back is starting to clear up. My face is getting better also. I noticed I'm not as hungry either. I haven't experienced crazy mood swings or depression, even if I did, I'd probably stick it out because I've had back acne since I was 16 years old, and I'm 21 now. I'm ready for my back to look normal again. I recommend this pill."

For Acne "Okay, so first off, I LOVE Gianvi. It’s helped me so much with my acne. I’m currently 18 and have been dealing with hormonal acne since 6th grade. I don’t have complaints about it at all. It did make my skin worse at first, but now I’m acne-free! After so long of dealing with hormonal acne, it’s done me so good, and now I’m more than confident with myself and my face, mostly! As for the pill itself with preventing pregnancy, I’d also give that a good 10/10. My boyfriend and I both love it. We’re very active in sexual activities, and no pregnancy scares at all or any of that. I’m very happy with my experience now, and I will continue taking Gianvi for a real long time. I do recommend it!"

For Birth Control "I was on this for 10 years and LOVED it! I suffered from anxiety prior, and this was given to me to help, and it took it away completely! I had zero side effects on this BC pill. My pharmacy had a hard time ordering it, and I missed taking it for a week, and my husband and I wound up pregnant, haha. Now that I’ve delivered my daughter, I've specifically requested that brand (all other similar brands are NOTHING like Gianvi. Beware, I tried 5 of them)! I swear by Gianvi."

For Menstrual Disorders "The pill worked wonders for me, after being diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. I was overweight, pimply, and struggled with chronic depression. I was originally prescribed Yaz but then began taking the generic, Gianvi, because of insurance reasons. I personally couldn't tell any difference between the two. This pill cleared up my acne, improved my depression, gave me light, short bleeds every month on the clock (as opposed to heavy periods every 4-6 months lasting 10 days to two weeks!), and it helped me lose a lot of weight over the course of a year. Unfortunately, I haven't been taking it for the past couple of years, and it's been rough. I greatly look forward to going back on it soon."

For Acne "Prior to the Gianvi birth control pill, I was taking Zarah, and it was a godsend. No issues at all with Zarah birth control until Walgreens pharmacy stopped carrying it. I've tried a bunch of other generics, but I feel like Gianvi is my best bet. I don't get headaches or extremely dry during intimacy. My skin is pretty flawless except for these tiny bumps on my chin- a lot of them too. I never had this issue before, and they're not closed comedones or cysts. If I try to pop them, they come out like hard seeds. Even with a chemical exfoliant like BHA, it's hard for these to leave my chin."

For Acne "I was so nervous to try this after reading the reviews, but I'm so glad I made the leap. I'm 35 and have been struggling for a decade with next-level awful cramps (vomiting/unhealthy amount of Advil), moderate cystic acne, and PMS that made me psycho. I stuck it out since I had bad birth control experiences before, but no natural remedy worked for me, and it wore me down to the point where I couldn't stand it anymore. My doctor recommended Gianvi, and I've been on it 6 months now. My face is virtually clear, the cramps are so mild (more like bloating), the emotional stuff is manageable, and my weight has stayed the same. The first month was great. Months two and three were rough emotionally as my body adjusted (really dark thoughts), but I stuck it out on my doctor's recommendation since my cramps and acne were better. I don't know if my 25-year-old self could have made it through those two months, but I'm kicking myself for not having taken this years ago."

For Birth Control "Regardless of all the negative reviews, I tried this birth control, and I do like it a lot. After about 3-4 packs, it cleared up my acne (I'm on the inert pills of my 5th pack now), it has relieved my menstrual cramps, helped to regulate my hormones, and is very effective as a birth control. I like pills that force me to bleed if I miss too many days, which helps to ward off sexual activity that could grant me an unwanted pregnancy. This does just that. After about two missed pills, you receive your period, and during the inert pills, you actually get a period and don't just spot. My insurance usually covers it, and it was $36 for three months, but recently it has become free of charge after my insurance coverage switched and covered contraception."

For Acne "GREAT for acne! Acne cleared up within a month of using the pill. I have been on Gianvi for about 6-7 months and overall had a good experience with it. No mood swings, hair loss, or weight gain. Periods are extremely light and no cramps. The only bad thing about this pill, and also the reason why I will be switching to an IUD, is because I have NO SEX DRIVE. Having sex is painful, and I am disinterested in having sex. My boyfriend and I have sex less frequently, and it usually ends shortly because I am in pain. Vaginal dryness and also chronic yeast infections! I have had about 4 yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis after getting on this pill, and I am sure that it is not just a coincidence. Very sad because besides this problem, I really liked the benefits of the pill."
