Dronabinol for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I have severe gastroparesis, which causes constant nausea and vomiting. I have tried ondansetron, granisetron, scopolamine patches, and Phenergan to no avail. Dronabinol 5 mg has been a miracle drug for my nausea. It takes about 2-3 hours to fully kick in, but my nausea starts going away in 30-45 minutes. While I don’t mind feeling super relaxed and euphoric, I really wish that this didn’t give me those effects, because that means when I have to drive, I can’t take it until I’m back home for the rest of the day, so I just have to deal with the nausea until I’m back home for the day. For that reason, I’m rating it 9/10."

Dronabinol for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I had transplant surgery a few months ago. I am on immunosuppressive drugs, and I am limited to what I can take. My doctor suggested it, and I said, 'Yes, please!' I take 5 mg about an hour or two before bed. It takes over an hour to kick in, but when it does, it works very well. Helps with body pain and definitely settles my stomach. Sometimes I don't feel it as much, someone said it might have to do with taking it on a full belly. I agree with her. Works for about 4-6 hrs for me. Helps you get to sleep, too! I've had no side effects, but you will most likely feel 'high,' so be very careful."

For Anorexia "Since day 1 on this, I have eaten more than I have in years. Before, I was only able to take a few small bites, then felt sick as if I was going to vomit. Now I'm eating lunch and dinner, and I clear my plate. I do feel bloated after eating, but I'm not used to eating 2 meals a day, more or less a few bites. Now I don't feel bad when my husband takes me out to eat because I can actually eat that $30 plate of food without wasting money and food."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "My doctor prescribed dronabinol off-label for PTSD-related anxiety and insomnia while I wait for my medical cannabis card to come. I’ve never used marijuana or THC before. I was instructed to take 1-2 before bed as needed. I started with 1. Nothing happened. No tiredness, no groggy feeling, no munchies, and definitely no high. Next, I tried 2, as prescribed. It was horrid. I tossed and turned trying to fall asleep. I woke up after 90 minutes feeling dizzy, nauseous, confused, paranoid, sweaty, and anxious. The muscles in the bottoms of my eyes felt like they were spasming when they were fully open (they weren’t). I felt disconnected from my body, in spite of the fact that I was feeling very ill. I was sick to my stomach, dizzy, and had no appetite the following day. This drug made me very sick. I hope the full plant has better therapeutic effects once I am eligible."

For Anorexia "I've had pancreatitis for 15 years now. This is the first medicine that not only works on the vomiting, but it also gives me an appetite. Eating anything is painful, this seems to slow things down to let my body process. It's a lifesaver."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "A great medication that is in the same class as morphine, for example! It's harder to get dronabinol than very strong opioids. And you have to pay for it, and it is expensive. One bottle is around 60€. That is the only bad thing I can say about this medication. Maybe they wake up and sell medical marijuana, that would be much cheaper, and most patients smoke or vape it."

Dronabinol for AIDS Related Wasting "Hate this medication. I've been on it so far for 4 days, and it makes me feel stoned/drunk, and takes away my ability to focus and concentrate. I can't wait to get off it. Everyone reacts differently to medication, and I hope other people don't have to go through the same side effects as I am currently battling."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "My legs were numb and uncoordinated due to multiple sclerosis. Off-label use of dronabinol brought my legs back to life! It produced absolutely no intoxication, increased energy in a natural way, and greatly lifted my mood as I was able to accomplish so much more with this drug. It is much safer than drugs normally prescribed for these disorders. I was taking a very low dose: just 5 mg, 3 times a week."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I've been on every antiemetic (nausea/vomiting with chronic intractable migraines and hiatal hernia), and they typically work for a while until I grow tolerant of the medication. The real problem I have with the Marinol is that it is only available in pill form - just by swallowing it, I begin vomiting all over again. I've also found that in the rare instance when I can keep it down, like if I take it during the prodrome phase, the timing for when it kicks in is inconsistent now; sometimes it won't do anything, and then suddenly 12 hours later it will hit me, while other times it will start working in two."

For Anorexia "Took my first dose last night before dinner. I have always had a poor appetite and have had to force myself to eat a meal or two throughout the day before actually feeling hunger pains at dinner time. After the 5 mg dose last night, I started feeling 'high' after about 30 minutes. About an hour later, I started hallucinating and having paranoia about dying. I had my husband take me to the hospital. I was given Ativan to relax me and am still feeling some of the effects today. It's like the absolute worst hangover ever. The ER doctor said that maybe 5% of the population would have this sort of reaction to it, and I just so happen to have been in that 5%. :/"

"My son took this for SIBO/POTS-related nausea and lack of appetite. After taking it only a few days, he began to have absence seizures at night (you can find it under rare side effects). He quit taking the med, and it went away within a couple of days. For him, it did not work anyway."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "The past few years I’ve just lost my appetite. I was in a 6-week coma, and since then I was never hungry... until Marinol! It’s a godsend. At first, I didn’t know it’s a derivative of marijuana, and I thought I was allergic to it because I guess I kinda had “a buzz” (I’m older, and I don’t do drugs recreationally). This Marinol not only makes you hungry... you actually enjoy the food! I was literally trying not to throw up when I was eating before Marinol. It’s impossible to choke down food when you’re scared you will start to vomit. :( I’m so very grateful for this medication. It takes about an hour to make you hungry and about half an hour to relieve nausea. I’ve not had one side effect (except the first few times I took it, and I didn’t know it had pot in it), and then it just made me not feel myself... no hallucinations or anything that extreme. I sure do hope it helps you too. It stinks to have absolutely no appetite or hunger."

Dronabinol for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I was fighting nausea and wanted to stop my pain medication (Suboxone), a powerful drug that takes a long time to come off of. When I started Marinol, it was a miracle drug. Not only did it help the nausea, it gave me a huge appetite, it also helped with the withdrawals. It was a great step for me. My dose was increased from 2.5 mgs to 5 mgs, that's when I started noticing the relief. I agree with many others, marijuana should be legalized. For the people that can't smoke it, the edibles will work the same, if not better. I thank the doctors and the pharmaceutical industry for Marinol."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I use it not just for nausea/vomiting but also as an emergency antispasmodic for diarrhea. I have IBD, nonalcoholic CP, and SOD, with erosive gastritis. It does make my gastritis slightly worse and can make SOD hurt more because D9 makes you release bile. But it will be the difference between taking hydrocodone for pain and not having to have any at all. It's amazing for me. It works very quickly. I also have an inhaler with D11/10/9 in it (where Dronabinol is itself D9) which also does the same thing but much faster for pain shock due to bowel pain. It's amazing for that too. The less I use, the stronger it is when I need it, so I have to be conservative. I don't recommend having it on an empty stomach at all, you will get sick. At least drink some tea and not water/soda - that's what I do. Most hospitals have this on hand in my experience, which is a bonus."

Dronabinol for Anorexia "My grandmother was given this in the hospital for anorexia and nausea. She began having tremors after the first dose. It was discontinued, and we are on the second full day post discontinuation, and she is still shaking, severe hallucinations, and mental status changes."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "My mother was given dronabinol almost 3 weeks ago before starting chemo. She was so weak from not eating much in 3 months. I asked the doctor to start her on it a few days before she started chemo to see if it helped her to eat. I was afraid she wouldn't make it through chemo because she was already so weak. Monday will be her third week. So far, she has not been sick, not one day, and she has also gained 5 lbs. Thanks to God and my mother's miracle pill, I really believe she will be able to beat this thing. I just wish it weren't so hard to get insurance companies to pay for this."
