For Insomnia "I have had insomnia off and on for 20 years and have been depressed for at least ten and have insomnia and anxiety. My doctor thought I was bipolar initially but has seen my problems concurrent, and we have dismissed mania. Doxepin works great. I was on Seroquel with many side effects, but I take 200 mg of doxepin in two doses, and I take Klonopin, 1 mg 3 times daily. I am a recovered drug addict and am very careful about abusable substances. This combination is perfect for people like me. The only side effect I have experienced is weight gain. In the first 3 months I began taking doxepin, I gained over 50 pounds, but after several months my weight plateaued and is coming off with moderate exercise."

For Depression "I was prescribed Doxepin for my PTSD-I have social phobias, panic disorder, anxiety, agoraphobia, and depressive disorder. First off, weight gain out the yazoo! I am very thin naturally, I'm 5'7" and 115 lbs. I gained 15 lbs, and it very much so showed! I had to pick up working out 5 days a week to stay at 130 lbs and not put on more. Since my symptoms are severe, I had to be at a higher dosage. I stopped at 160 mg. When I went to the E.R. from being impacted by the constipation this medication caused (and I was taking flaxseed, probiotics, and Colace regularly while on it). Also, it didn't start kicking in for my panic disorder until about 125 mg, and then it turned my panic to minimal and turned generalized anxiety on full-blown (which I never had before...). Helped for depression on lower dosages but didn't help for that at all after I went past 90 mg on it. However, it did absolute wonders for my depression at a lower dosage. Lots of baggage overall, as most of these old-time drugs have."

For Insomnia "My psych prescribed doxepin because I have trouble staying asleep. I tried the 25 mg, 50 mg, and 75 mg doses, and it STILL doesn’t work. The only thing it has done is made me gain nearly 10 pounds in a week and made my brain feel like I’m trapped in some padded cell where I can’t feel human emotions anymore or think at all. This feels like a mental straitjacket, and I am NOT happy about the terrible mental effects of a drug I’ve been prescribed for insomnia. NOT WORTH IT. If you care about your brain functioning properly every day. Trust me, the effects of insomnia are better than sleeping a few hours more, STILL waking up every hour or so, and feeling zombified in the morning. I lost all trust in my psychiatrist for prescribing me this terrible pill. Still don’t feel like myself..."

Doxepin for Insomnia "I find it works really well keeping me asleep all night. I do have some wild vivid dreams, but not that often. The only downside for me is I am gaining weight."

For Insomnia "Doxepin is great at keeping me asleep. The only major problem is the rapid weight gain. I went from 155 lbs to 185 lbs in only 2 weeks."

For Anxiety "Honestly, a very good drug for anxiety and depression symptoms. The worst side effect is the weight gain. But in the end, for me personally, I would prefer relief from anxiety."

For Insomnia "Helped me a lot with my insomnia. But gained over 50 pounds in the last 4 months. I have also noticed my hair getting thinner. I will not take this anymore. Going back to the dr."

For Insomnia "Doxepin did not help me. Weak if you have really, really bad insomnia. Remeron is stronger and works better for insomnia, but it can cause weight gain."
