For Insomnia "I was on doxepin after I got put on trazodone. Trazodone didn't work for me. I got put on doxepin when I was 12 years old when I was hospitalized. I was on 150 mg at night. It knocked me right out. It would make me drowsy in the morning, though. I'm now off doxepin, but still. I wanted to share what I had experienced."

For Insomnia "I was prescribed doxepin for an itch that I would only scratch in my sleep. I was warned to make sure I was able to get at least 8-10 hours of sleep. Wow! Literally melted into my pillow, which was amazing, and the full night’s sleep was awesome. Now to the negative. I took it Sunday night, and today, Tuesday afternoon, I’m still groggy. I train BJJ, and during class Monday night, I had a dizzy spell where the room was spinning. Scary to say the least. Long story short, my 10 mg low dose is not for me. I feel like I have no control taking this. But I loved being able to sleep!"

For Insomnia "10 mg doxepin for insomnia was a huge mistake for me. The first two nights I did sleep; however, I stayed groggy throughout the following day. It drove my blood pressure down 15 points, low so much so that I had to be careful. On the third night, I itched so much that I could not sleep."

For Depression "This stuff is garbage. Woke up hyper and with shortness of breath. I thought this med was supposed to make me sleep??? Just a horrible med!!! All these side effects listed too, be careful!! I'm better off with my anxiety and sleeplessness."

For Urticaria "On doxepin 35 mg dose, use it for chronic urticaria and insomnia. Been given doxepin as an interim drug for the urticaria because famotidine is unavailable. Urticaria - hives still not fully under control, but I can’t blame the doxepin as I’m on other meds for it as well. There hasn’t been a massive increase in hives since transitioning from famotidine to doxepin, so it must be doing something. Had to stop the Endep I was originally taking for insomnia as they can’t be taken together. Insomnia > worked great for the first few weeks, but then did nothing. The daytime drowsiness when you first take it only lasted a few days for me. Unfortunately, I’m back to being an insomniac, so I’m hoping I can get back on the Endep soon!"

For Insomnia "Doxepin did help me go to sleep, but I do not like the way it leaves me feeling the next day. I can’t function properly, I feel very groggy, slow, and heavy, and all I want to do is rest. I’ve depended on sleep aids for over 25 years, and I’d rather not sleep than feel like this."

For Insomnia "My surgeon (albeit in 1996) prescribed to me 100 mg of Doxepin each night before bedtime after surgery. I felt like that dose was enough to lay a horse to sleep. I did have some trouble sleeping, but that dose was overkill! Woke up groggy, dehydrated, and quite ill each morning. Not going to go through that again!"

For Insomnia "I slept after taking doxepin, that's for sure. The problem is that it's a TCA and they always put me to sleep even when I'm awake, and so saps the world of color. It's kind of a Spock syndrome sort of thing except even my thinking is muddled by inexplicable fogginess. I've been taking bupropion, which is the total opposite, it's said to be kind of like a lesser form of Adderall, and I'd believe it. This totally counteracts that newer stuff I've been on, though, so I simply can't take this stuff."

For Insomnia "I take doxepin 25 mg an hour before bed - worked well to make me sleepy. Next day, found out it was too well. Slept on and off for about 20 hours and was still groggy. The mental side effects are even worse - intense feelings of not being real. Sudden anger and moodiness. Worried about how it’ll affect my suicidal ideation, so I won’t be taking them again."

For Insomnia "Took 100 mg the first time at bedtime. Slept well but woke up groggy. Felt bad all day and could fall back asleep just by closing my eyes for 10 seconds. Sluggish, tired, dizzy, etc."

For Insomnia "Too strong for me; slept for 10+ hours and felt groggy for most of the next day when I took it. Is worth a try if you suffer from severe insomnia because, in that regard, it did work."

For Insomnia "It worked for like 1 1/2 weeks, now it’s completely useless. The prescribing doctor told me it’s very sedating, but that’s definitely not the case for me. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, seriously!!!! It’s garbage, just like trazodone."
