Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I have had IBS for about 18 years. Symptoms of bloating, swollen stomach, looking like I'm 6 months pregnant, severe cramps, very loose bowels. Symptoms lasting weeks, making me home bound and in bed. Eating crackers and drinking juice. I have gone to a number of doctors. Finally, my gastroenterologist prescribed Bentyl. I was taking it 3 times daily, then 2 times daily. Because it made me tired, I now only take it when I have flare-ups. I try to take it at night when possible. This medicine has really helped me. I highly suggest it."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I have long-time IBS with two diverticulitis attacks within the last 4 months. This medication does quell my pain (10mg) within one hour of taking it. For this, I would rate it at 10, however, the side effects are very bad. Double blurry vision, extreme dizziness, lethargy, and disorientation. Do not make any plans outside your home if you plan on taking this. I only use it when the pain and discomfort becomes extreme. So thankful my wife is a former EMT-I and a CRNA. She helps me much."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, was going to the bathroom 10x times a day. Was prescribed this two weeks ago. Take 3x times a day. So far pill works great down to 2x times a day and my stomach looks smaller since I was always bloated. Only side effect I've noticed is it makes me tired during the day."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I had an infection called Clostridium difficile in 2014. Ever since then, my IBS has been worse than ever. This drug is a lifesaver for me. It works within minutes to help calm down the stomach pains. It helps immensely with gas pains. I love this drug. I have been on it since 2016, I had to have a stool transplant, and I had the worst stomach pains ever after that for months. I take it as needed, but lately, I have had to take it more often due to an increase in IBS symptoms again. It does make me tired and causes dry mouth, but other than that, there are no side effects."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "First, I want to thank you all for your reviews. These reviews helped me to finally be brave enough to take Bentyl for IBS. I was sick for months: constipation, bloating, sudden diarrhea with syncope sometimes, lost 35 lbs. without trying, and highly sensitive to various foods. I logged everything I ate, drank, and every BM for 5 months. I was tested for everything under the sun... multiple blood labs good, multiple stool labs good, good upper & lower GIs, CT scan. I had nothing physically wrong with me to be found. My primary care recommended I try Bentyl. I avoided it due to some of the horror stories I initially read online about possible side effects. Months later, I finally tried it after reading some of your reviews on this website. For the first 2-3 days, I had some minor dizziness and felt tired. But after sticking with it for a few days, those side effects went away completely, and I feel absolutely normal. I only wish I'd had tried Bentyl sooner."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I am now 35 and suffered from bowel problems since I was 13 that slowly intensified as I got older. I had tests after tests and was not allergic to anything, and they could not find out what was wrong. The cramping would become so intense I thought I would pass out and cause bleeding by the time it stopped. Since they couldn't find anything wrong or out of the ordinary, the Dr. proclaimed that I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Eventually I told him there has to be an option to stop the contractions in my intestine. He then prescribed this medicine to me. First at 10mg dosages. It helped but not entirely and ran out fast. Then he gave me 20mg. That did the trick! Only need to take as needed. Only side effect is being a little tired and rather be that than passed out."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I have had surgeries that led to a few different infections in my bowel, which has led to severe 10 out of 10 pain when passing bowel motion. The theory is scar tissue has caused this condition, but after all the tests, there is no way to verify because it is in the small intestine. Years of pain, three trips to the ER with horrific pain, and a decade later, a doctor put me on this. This medicine has been a miracle, I have never had any pain since. I went from suicidal to being able to function and even go on vacation. However, there have been side effects. I have had blurred vision, I am generally lethargic at all times, and nausea. All said and done, the side effects are nothing compared to the other pain, but they are bad at times."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I have had stomach issues since I was a kid. I was recently prescribed Bentyl up to 4 times a day. It works great, calms my stomach and digestive system down like nothing else I have tried over the counter in the stores has. It can make me a little fuzzy-headed or tired on occasion, but it doesn't happen every time. I will take that small side effect over my stomach problems any day. I highly recommend it."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I went back to this due to side effects with another medication. Bentyl is cheap and works, but the side effects make me dizzy and tired. I'll keep taking it because it's the only thing that works. Must take 2-4 times a day to not have cramping, but definitely works for cramping like nothing else."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "After being diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, I was started on Bentyl 20 mg up to 4 times a day. At first, I was not happy with the tiredness, so I only took it twice daily, but now I take it 3-4 times a day as needed. Although it doesn't eliminate all of the cramping and gas pains, it does make a huge difference."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "This medication works wonders for me. Tend to get stomach cramps regularly, I miss work sometimes because I am constantly running to the bathroom. If I am traveling, I have to stop and use public restrooms. I never know when it's going to hit me. I am weak and faint sometimes from these flares. The only drawback is that it makes me feel tired and I get blurry vision. It has really helped me."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I've been suffering for two weeks before I got prescribed Bentyl. Bentyl has helped greatly and helped with the urgency I was feeling. I don't like the drowsy feeling it leaves, but I suppose I'd rather have the tiredness than the constant problem of 'going'. Bentyl has been a good medicine for me. I recommend it to others who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or other problems!"

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "This stuff is a godsend. I take it about 30 to 60 minutes before eating anything, and it not only gives me a few pain-free hours, but it also gives me a generally relaxed feeling. *sidenote* that relaxed feeling is great when your stomach is really painful. BUT it does make you kind of on a high. Not like a drug high, but more a chill, relaxed high if that makes any sense. So be careful if you need to drive or anything like that. Makes me high and tired, but worth it for no stomach aches! Damn IBS!"

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Finally, one doctor diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome and prescribed me Bentyl (dicyclomine) 10 mg. Now when I have an attack, I take one of these, and within 30 minutes and a heating pad on my stomach, the pain goes from a 10 down to about a 1. The only downside is that it makes me feel stoned and high, like I smoked about 5 joints. I feel very confused and very tired. But all in all, it works very well for the pain."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I love this medication. Yes, it makes me tired, but it beats going to the bathroom all day. I have little to no cramping anymore and owe it all to this. I would be the perfect poster child for this medication."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "This medicine works great for my abdominal pain, but it doesn't stop it completely. I still feel nausea almost every hour of the day, but I do have a slight appetite back compared to before I started taking this. I can tell that it's working because I will start feeling more sick and more pain and realize it's been four hours and need to take another dose. A downfall that is almost making me want to stop taking this is that it makes me so tired I can't focus on anything, and I can barely function. My memory is horrible, and it bothers me a lot when I am in the middle of doing something and forget what I was doing."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Double-edged sword for me. I take it for Crohn's disease. If I start cramping up and take Bentyl, it does typically help with bowel spasms fairly well. On the flip side of that, it tends to make me a bit drowsy and kind of lethargic, and occasionally causes panic attacks and anxiety that last for a few hours. Kinda have to weigh the risks with rewards though."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I've had IBS for as long as I can remember. It gets so bad that I vomit from the pain, then about 15 years ago, I began passing out from the abdominal cramping. Finally talked to my doctor after passing out while driving. Tried different drugs, and he finally gave me Lomotil, which worked but made my constipation worse. Finally, I became a nurse and, while working in a prison, I discovered dicyclomine is what they were prescribed, so I asked my doctor about it. It has been a lifesaver!! I take it only as needed when I start to feel the cramping coming on. The only downside is it makes me feel kind of high. Maybe it's just dizziness and tiredness, but I've been known to fall down a couple of times using it. It beats passing out on the toilet, though!"

For Noninfectious Colitis "This medication didn't work for me, and it gave me some pretty bothersome side effects. I was only taking one 20 mg pill a day for a couple of weeks. It made me very loopy and tired. The side effects I had were several severe hot flashes per day, night sweats, and chest pain that would last a couple of hours until I would randomly belch, and it would instantly disappear. Stopped taking it, and all side effects disappeared. I will never take that pill again."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I was prescribed this after gastric sleeve surgery for stomach cramps that I was told would happen. It's been a lifesaver. The first month I took it religiously as prescribed because the pain was the worst. Now I take it as needed (per my Dr), and it helps so much even with an upset stomach. It does make me a little tired but not enough to make me want to go to sleep for hours. I keep it with me at all times in case my stomach acts up."

For Noninfectious Colitis "Well, it seems to help so much it scares me. The thing is, I've been to the ER a lot of times, no answers. Once they did find I have a small hiatal hernia. My gastro doctor put me on this, it seems to help keep me out of the ER. I am thankful for this and pray it continues with my other meds to help until I have my surgery. It makes me tired, but that's all."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I really am grateful for my doctor prescribing this for me. I personally only take one when I am having an episode (even though the bottle says something different). I don't like taking pills if I don't need to, and within a few minutes, I'm feeling more relaxed. The only side effect that I seem to have is I get a little 'loopy,' dizzy, and tired as well... but maybe the tiredness is from everything being released from my body. Not sure... I do NOT drive while the medicine is in my body because my judgment and reflexes are a bit slower than normal. When my daughter was a week old, I had an irritable bowel syndrome episode. I took a pill and then I was unable to breastfeed for 24 hours. I just pumped and dumped. Otherwise, I love this."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Crohn's for 16 years, recent IBS diagnosis. This medicine was very effective 18 months ago. I went off it for 2 weeks 6 months ago to see if I still needed it, and thought it was still helping. I didn't know the nausea, extreme tiredness, and weird head symptoms (like I drank too much coffee/high, dizzyish) could be related to this med since I'd already been on it for a while. The nausea and weird head symptoms got progressively worse and more persistent where some days I'd just need to nap right after waking and was not functional, while trying to raise 4 young kiddos. Thank God, I finally eliminated the dicyclomine after changing many things about my life. Now those symptoms are gone. Still IBS symptoms that I will deal with for now."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Took me several trips back to the ER for fluids with vitamins, to help flush this awful stuff out! Had bad side effects for a month!!! Bad!!! Never take unless you love being weak and no energy along with massive diarrhea and no appetite, and love dehydration."

Dicyclomine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I honestly thought everyone’s stomach was uncomfortable after eating. It wasn’t until I started taking this drug twice daily that I had that revelation. My IBS was getting to the point where I had crippling stomach pain 1-2 days out of every week. I started taking it as needed, but there was little relief that way. My doctor told me to try taking it daily, and it’s wonderful! No bloating and gas after meals (or in between), and I no longer look like I’m 4 months pregnant all the time. If I start feeling a little upset stomach, I can take 1-2 more each day, and that does the trick. I only feel mild tiredness, which is going away as I take the medication longer. I am so excited about the doors opening for me with the pain being put to rest!!"
