For Inflammatory Conditions "Twice in a year I've had acute sinus infections. The first was a blocked sinus pathway due to inflammation, and I was given two Z-packs a month apart and got worse with secondary bronchitis. The third month, I was given a 10 mg dexamethasone muscular injection, and I began feeling better within 30 minutes. I was normal for about 5 months. The second had inflammation in my tear ducts and had allergic conjunctivitis that doesn't manifest the same as viral or bacterial. After a month of my eyes tearing without a cause, it turned to a sore throat because I didn't know I had pink eye. I was then treated with a Z-pack and bacterial drops for my eyes. Eyes, nose, throat, and breathing became worse the next few days. On the third day, I went back and was prescribed eye drops for inflammation and a 10 mg IM dexamethasone. Within an hour, I was feeling so much better, and now my eyes have gone from pink to moderately bloodshot to mild to moderate bloodshot eyes, sore throat gone, and a slight cough without fire in my throat."

For Inflammatory Conditions "Every time my migraines get bad enough that I end up at the ER or my back is aching from a fall (3 back surgeries), the doctors end up giving me an IV shot of this. It does work with the cocktail of meds to help calm my migraine, but when it is first pushed into the IV, please warn the nurse to dilute it and push it VERY SLOW, as it makes your body feel like it is literally tingling on FIRE, especially your private parts. My friends call it the 'crotch burner.'"

Dexamethasone for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "Been taking this drug for about over a year now. I've got stage 3 multiple myeloma (bone cancer). Really have no bad side effects. The only issue I have is sleeplessness, it really keeps you awake at night, hard time to fall asleep. Other than that, it works great."

For Multiple Myeloma "Don't like this medicine at all. My doctor told me to take ten 4-milligram tabs every Wednesday. I can't sleep, swollen neck and face, tingling and swelling in the feet, shortness of breath ...and lots more. I'm not taking this medication anymore."

For Immune Thrombocytopenia "I took 10 mg for 4 days, which is recommended to anyone with ITP. I had side effects for almost a whole week. I had a bloody nose off and on the whole time, my vision changed, couldn't drive, and made me sleep a lot. A day after being off of it, I had pain from my jaw all the way down to my butt. I couldn't move without feeling like I was going to break. The worst part of it all was when I told my doctor, and they said it was not from the medication, when it was. I didn't take any other prescription or non-prescription drugs. It only made my platelets double in numbers and then drop very fast."

Dexamethasone for Inflammatory Conditions "I was given dexamethasone for my cluster headaches. My Dr. injects it with lidocaine in the back of my head. It did take away my headaches for 3 months. I immediately knew when it wore off because I received one of the worst headaches. I had forgotten what it felt like to get a headache. I just received more injections for the 2nd time. He gives me about 5 injections on each side of my head at once. I have gained weight and have a swollen face sometimes."

Dexamethasone for Inflammatory Conditions "Today, I had to refer my aged mother, 85, for her inflammation on the bruise site on the forehead due to a fall a couple of days ago. I referred her to my family doctor, who administered Dexamethasone Injection IP 2 ml. Within 5 minutes, she developed breathing heaviness, gasped for breath, and was about to swoon. Fortunately, as the doctor swung into action and administered her Deriflin injection, after four hours, she returned to normal. This is the worst and riskiest medicine, if I have to say something on this. 24.Nov.2016"

For Inflammatory Conditions "Just received a dexamethasone injection in my arm for tonsillitis. It initially felt like I didn’t get a shot, then the pain just exploded. I mean, no burning, just felt like I was punched in the arm. It was throbbing, and each throb was stabbing pain. I was bawling like a baby. I do have fibromyalgia, but I have had many shots in the muscle that sting. This was no sting! The doctor chalked it up to 'everything that was going on with me.' I am not a dramatic person, but this was the weirdest, most painful intravenous muscle shot I have ever had! I also have a heart condition, and reading what I am in for with anxiety and racing heart has me very concerned. Shouldn’t the doc have seen that?"

For Inflammatory Conditions "I have a major herniated disc. Woke up and could barely walk. The chiro said to go to urgent care and get a shot - they gave me 30 mg of dexamethasone. Stung like hell, but was able to stand straight up and walk with the pain diminished about 80%. It’s now 6 hours later, no side effects. I’ll update if some come! I’m not going to mix any of my other meds with this. I’ve read I’d major interactions."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "This steroid nearly killed me. Receiving as part of my chemo, took 2 a day for 3 days straight after chemo. Was only on them for three months when they induced diabetic ketoacidosis. Was on life support for 10 days. Will never touch a steroid again. I have given this a high score on the bar because it did stop me from feeling sick."

For Atopic Dermatitis "On April, I was given dexamethasone for an allergic reaction I had to something I ate. I had dexamethasone as an injection and pills that I took for 3 days. On the 3rd day, I stopped taking them because I developed adverse side effects like fog in my head, confusion, numbness on the right side of my head, blurry vision, adrenaline feeling in my head, dry mouth, lost appetite, and diarrhea, along with depression and anxiety. After 3 weeks, all my side effects were gone except for anxiety and mild depression. I’m on 5 weeks since I stopped taking the medication, and I’m still struggling with anxiety and depression. So far, side effects come and go. Some days I have it, and I don’t, or it comes in and out throughout the day. Side effects are horrible. I can’t wait for this to be over."

"Well, can't tell if it is effective or not, unbearable to keep taking it because of the side effects. Having all that I see mentioned as well: sleeplessness, bad headaches, increased heart rate, very wired, mood swings, blurred vision goes in/out affected me while I was driving, flushed face. Stopped it after the first two days because of this, then, thinking it was a fluke, took it again and felt the symptoms instantly. Calling my doc to see if there's something else :("

For Eczema "I was admitted for nasal surgery, but the doctor gave me dexamethasone 0.5 mg to prevent allergies. My eczema disappeared, and I feel better. I did some research on this prescription, it is a kind of steroid, and you cannot take it usually or daily. Better to consult with a doctor. But I would love to take it if I have better information and with doctor consultation."

For Inflammatory Conditions "This has been great for my bulging disc sciatica pain. I can hardly walk, and this helps greatly. It does raise my blood sugar, so I have to be careful. I stopped taking it for a while, but the pain was so severe I needed this wonderful medicine. I've had anxiety issues, but this has not added problems there."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I started the dexamethasone 4 mg only two mornings ago. The second day (yesterday), most of the pain was gone. However, beginning yesterday, I've had 9 or 10 bouts of hi-coughing, including 2 to 3:30 this morning. That symptom is not listed anywhere, but it does seem odd that I hadn't suffered hi-coughs in years and years and never this long lasting. Until speaking with my physician in the morning, I'm having to suspect an interaction with other medicines."

For Inflammatory Conditions "It works wonders for inflammation and pain. But if you take it for some months - like I had to - the chances of adverse side effects go up exponentially. In my case, that translated as a 30-pound weight gain."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I receive this drug with chemo and am supposed to take it days 2-4 afterwards. Other than anxiety, it does the trick of improving abdominal pain, but once I stop, I am in agony. Burning pain and cramps, indigestion, back pain, and decreased urine output. I'm ready to give up on the whole thing."

For Cerebral Edema "After presenting with severe headaches and confusion, two tablets of 4 mg each (one in the morning, one later in the day). A rapid progress was achieved within a day. Operated on the next day for a brain tumor biopsy and have been on it ever since. Just completed my first cycle of chemo - one bag over 3-4 hours, then 3-4 days of a rescue medicine intravenously to strip it out of my system. I have a rare and aggressive Central Nervous System lymphoma (Non-Hodgkin's), which was caught early."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "Taking this as pre-med on chemo day and then for 4 days after. Side effects include: insomnia-I'm still up, it's 5 am, weight gain-I'm always hungry, swollen hands, legs, and feet, blurred vision, lingering dry cough, voice also goes in and out, constant headaches, swollen face and neck, painful bloating, and I'm not overweight. Talked to the doctor, and it was decided that I would only take it on chemo day. Phew!"

"I was given a harsh regimen of this drug. I took 50 (5 mg) pills over four days leading up to my surgery. The hope was it would minimize the pressure on my spinal cord caused by a tumor and, in doing so, prevent any additional injury to the spinal cord until they came up with a game plan to remove the tumor. It worked but kept me wired the whole time... I literally did not sleep for 5 days."

For Immune Thrombocytopenia "My platelet count went down to 15k; the doctor prescribed this med. Took 10, 4 mg pills in the morning for 4 days, then stopped. CBC platelet count went up to 90k. However, for the 5 days that followed, I was in utter pain. Extreme abdominal pain, voice was hoarse, felt like my throat was on fire, headache and sensitivity to light, and the worst was the abdominal bloat. I couldn't move with it being laborious and having shortness of breath. Not a pill I would ever take again. A week later, CBC platelets were back down to 15k. I can live with that."

For Plaque Psoriasis "Started to take this medicine for a tongue condition (geographical tongue). I read it lowers my immune system, and it definitely does. I only have one more day of it, thank goodness. I feel horrible. My head hurts, my eyes are watery, and I constantly feel achy. I don't really see a difference in my tongue either. Just want to be off this medicine! Let's hope the withdrawals aren't bad either."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I have severe facet arthritis and along with it chronic piriformis syndrome. My doctor suggested a trigger point injection for the piriformis pain that was also causing sciatica. I had a series of injections over the last nine months, and the last one tanked me. I was extremely fatigued for two days, and then lab work showed my testosterone levels were almost depleted. I developed muscle weakness in my legs and arms and severe depression. I have steroid-induced myopathy and am still fatigued (despite replacement of my testosterone) and depressed. While this medication can be a godsend for some, for me it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Now seeing an endocrinologist for the myopathy and possibly adrenal insufficiency. I am a healthy, fit, and normally happy 55-year-old woman, despite my bad back. Know the risks of this medication. I did not. I felt suicidal for almost two weeks before that faded, and now I’m just flat, fatigued, and praying this resolves."
