For Osteoporosis "I started taking Premarin 1.25 mg when I lost my ovaries at the age of 28 to endometriosis. That was 33 years ago. My symptoms were lack of focus and energy. Within a week or two, I was back to my normal self with the exception of the mood swings I'd had ever since puberty. Several years ago, my GYN said there was an alert about Premarin and I would have to wean myself off of them. I went down to 1/4 of what I was taking within 7 months. I was taking large doses of ibuprofen for over 25 years for inflammation in my back. When the Premarin was decreased and the ibuprofen was taken down, I developed extreme arthritic swelling in some of my joints. I was put back on the Premarin immediately and told to never get off."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "Best for me. Tried all of HRTs, Estrace pills, patches, pellets, injections, and Premarin works best, though not cheap. Premarin pills 1.25 mg 2/day plus Premarin cream 1 gram daily plus low dose progesterone (2.5 mg) the only solution for me. Had endometrial ablation years ago and don't need progesterone but found a tiny dose helps the Premarin work better. If you have trouble, it means either the dose, brand, or delivery is not correct for your chemistry. The progesterone most MDs prescribe is Prometrium 100 mg, only during pregnancy does a woman's body ever make that high a level! Pre-menopausal non-pregnant women only produce ~25-30 mg progesterone daily and ~1.5-9.0 mg estrogen daily. Progesterone can convert into estrogen, which can help menopausal symptoms, but it doesn't convert in all women the same. Prometrium was much too high for me (gave me bad symptoms), I needed less progesterone and higher estrogen to feel balanced. Watch YouTube videos of Menopause Taylor (Dr. Barbara Taylor), she explains everything."

For Oophorectomy "After a full hysterectomy in 2000 with both ovaries removed, I was given Premarin straight after surgery. My doctor now refuses to continue the treatment, and her colleagues will not prescribe as I am her patient. Now 3 months without and horrendous problems with lack of energy, emotional outbursts, hot flushes, and vaginal skin tearing. The doctor still refuses because of cancer risk. I thought that would be my choice: for better quality of life. What to do? Flew to Malaysia and bought OTC. Life is getting back to normal now. Only side effect may be the slight bloating, but I'm careful what I eat and drink to reduce this."

For Osteoporosis "I have taken a small dosage of unopposed estrogen for about the past 30 years. I have only lost less than one inch of height, have pretty healthy hair, not yet grey, walk 1.5 miles about five days a week, sing and dance, drive my car, and am sexually active even though I am what is termed elderly. Best of all, I feel my bones are much denser and have more mass than they would have without the estrogen. Of course, a scientific comparison from bone density charts would show how true that may be. I have had breakthrough bleeding but try to have a sonogram and biopsy every year or so just to monitor for possible side effects on my uterus. Meanwhile, I feel cheerful, well-adjusted, physically/socially active, strong, and mentally alert even at this advanced age."

"I had to have a total hysterectomy in 2009, including removing both ovaries at the age of 38 because of endometriosis. I have been on Premarin 0.45 mg since. I only have to take one every 3 days to keep the hot flashes at bay. I tried going off of it twice because even with insurance it was $50, but I thought I was going to die!!!! I could not sleep at all, the hot flashes were horrible, I had no energy to do anything but lay all day on the couch. My life might as well have been over if I didn't have this drug. I have no side effects on it, and I thank God I have it."

For Primary Ovarian Failure "I couldn't take Premarin for about 5 years when I needed to because of cancer. I had bad symptoms. You name it - as far as having a hard time while being in my 'change' period, I had them all. When the doctor finally put me on Premarin and it took effect, I could have jumped for joy. I was myself again. I loved being on it. All the symptoms went away. I was so thankful. I was on it for many years. I tried to cut back at times, but all the bad feelings would come back. Last year, my doctor took me off it. He told me to take Estrace. It would be better for me. I'm having a hard time. Estrace does not work, and my symptoms are back with a fury. I'm trying to find a doctor that will give me Premarin."

For Atrophic Vaginitis "I've been on it almost 3 years. I had to start using this in my mid-twenties. I can use very little to the normal amount every 3 days or so. I go by how I feel more than anything. I do notice belly swelling the next day, and I do get headaches if I use too much. Other than that, I love this, and I'll keep using it. Make sure you get your yearly check-ups/blood work, and you'll be fine."

For Oophorectomy "I took Premarin 0.625 following an oophorectomy at 36. At 58, I was advised to come off it, as I was past the age of menopause, but I got really bad atrophic vaginitis. I went back on it for another 7 years and have been off for a year. Doctor now reluctant to write a prescription as I'm 65. Now been given Vagifem but miss my Premarin so much. Anyone take it after 65? Tempted to buy on the Internet but worried that might stop too. No health issues or other medication."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "Immediately after total hysterectomy in 2006, I was prescribed Premarin 1.25. Worked great for all my menopause symptoms. My doctor recently told me to stop taking the medication due to the side effects, in which one that caught my attention was blood clots. Well, to make a long story short, back in 2016, an MRI discovered a blood clot in my head, in which it was caught before it ruptured."

For Oophorectomy "I took Premarin from the day after my hysterectomy at age 45 until a year ago at age 76. It was trouble-free for me. My doctor finally insisted on changing me from the low-dose pill to the cream. Anyway, my bone density tests show my bones to be 30 years younger than I am, my hair is thick, my skin is 20 years younger than I am, I have never had hot flashes or anything one would think I'd have had. I wish I was still taking it. But I didn't know about the horses/mares."

For Hypoestrogenism "I suffered from endometriosis after my 1st born baby girl, 1980 (natural birth). Treatment from South Africa's fertility specialist (1983-1989) helped me through x 3 miscarriages and hopelessness. Eventually, I fell pregnant; cesarean baby girl, 1988, and my son was born in 1989. Still suffered endometriosis. My son was 3 days old when I had a hysterectomy done; left ovaries intact and put me on Premarin; weakest dose. Over the years, changed to 1.25 mg, which I've used for the past 11 years. Never had side effects EXCEPT a fair shade skin blemish on my chin. I've remained slim/trim, yet I've lived a healthy, active lifestyle. NOW, however -- I'm now 61 and no clue whether to stop using Premarin. I did for 2/3 months but had hot flushes & strong mood swings. Google info warns of danger to health if taken longer than 10 years. I've taken it NOW FOR NEARLY 30 years! ANY ADVICE / must I stop?? Love to hear of anyone else's experiences in a similar situation."

For Osteoporosis "My doctor retired, and his replacement stopped five of my drugs (all now prescribed by specialists). However, Premarin was stopped for one and a half months. Two weeks later, forty hot flashes a day began. I felt like I was going to die. Finally, an endocrinologist re-prescribed Premarin but only half the dose I had taken for thirty-two years (since forty). Hot flashes are still outrageous. All my sisters have osteoporosis, but not me (I took HRT). In the time it was stopped, I lost weight, lost one inch in height, about twenty percent of my hair, and I'm so tempted to order it online without a prescription so I can take the other half of my regular dose. Desperate people do desperate things."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "My third month using Premarin 0.625 g due to unbearable hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, and night sweats. I had a hysterectomy about a year ago. Since taking Premarin, both hot flashes and night sweats have lessened. Now my biggest challenge is persistent and enlarging painful breasts. Am due to discuss this feedback with my gynecologist."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I suffered from horrible night sweats, flashes all day long, and a mean foul temper due to lack of restful sleep and lack of estrogen, apparently. Had a partial hysterectomy at 44, started HRT at 50. Finally found a doctor who didn't just give me a pat on the arm and an antidepressant. Started with Premarin and found myself. Sleep was restful, I could tolerate people and even enjoy them, my husband no longer was at risk of being the target of tears, anger, resentment, sadness, and happiness all in the matter of minutes... then my insurance said it was no longer covered. Tried a few other 'covered' options and have been MISERABLE! The flashes and night sweats are even worse. Wishing there was a synthetic form of this, hoping for a generic that works BUT have not been successful, seriously trying to figure out how to make $500 a month to be able to stay on it and have quality of life."

For Oophorectomy "I could not make it through one day without Premarin since I had my uterus removed. I take along with 24 mg bio-identical testosterone from Woman's International Pharmacy. Had the surgery in 1973 and suffered for so long, they even told me I had Lyme. I was bitten by a tick, and crazy as it seems, these two hormones cured me. Go figure. I only use 'name brand' Premarin like my mother and aunts used in the '50s when they used to combine Premarin and testosterone in one pill. I used to use that in the '70s and '80s before bio-identical hormone cream."

"I had a hysterectomy at age 32, and I am now 82 and have taken Premarin all the time since. I have tried to get off several times and had horrible side effects. Had one doctor that refused to give me a prescription because she did not believe in it, so I had to go to another doctor for a prescription and get it in Canada now, and much cheaper. Thanks for Premarin."

"I was diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 35 and as a result had a full hysterectomy. This included ovaries and uterus, and in 1986, was prescribed Premarin to prohibit menopause. I am now 73 and enjoy an excellent life while continuing to take doses of 0.625 and 0.300 mcg on alternate days. For me, the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and I have never suffered from any side effects. I have good bone density, have never had a hot flush, and will continue with this medication as long as it is prescribed for me. It costs me about $100 NZ Dollars for three months' supply, but it is well worth it."

For Primary Ovarian Failure "I've been on Premarin for over 20 years. When I started, I had side effects of bloating and constipation. Over time, those resolved. I don't know why I'm still having hot flashes 20+ years after menopause. Now I take .625 every other day due to the expense. That works. If I try to cut back to every third day, the hot flashes return in a short time."

For Oophorectomy "Now 73. Partial hysterectomy at 27, symptoms of menopause and thyroid failure at 35, extreme depression and suicidal at 43. Doctor tested estrogen, and it was almost nonexistent. I was on the .625 Premarin dosage for about 15 years (thyroid medication was prescribed during that time also) and then switched to .3 with no problems. I read that it is not usually prescribed after 70 and asked my doctor what to do, afraid of the symptoms coming back. She said many older patients reduce their medication, so at 70, I cut back to 3 tablets of .3 a week and am happy to report that I have had no problems. My EHB covers 80% of the cost. This pill saved my life!"

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I was prescribed Premarin 1.25 right after a total hysterectomy 11-1983. This was to help avoid, at age 32, hot flashes, dryness in skin and hair, and protect my bones. Personal dryness. I took it for 20 yrs. Then, when the doctors thought I was having a heart attack in 4-2004, they took me off of it cold turkey. In 2-2009, I was found to have stage 1.5 breast cancer. The cancer doctor told me it was from taking Premarin for 20 yrs. Should only have been prescribed no more than 7 yrs. The cancer was caused by extra hormones. Extra hormones were driving my endometriosis, which was the cause of removing everything in 1983. My cancer doctor said, with my family background, I was lucky never to have had a major heart attack."

For Primary Ovarian Failure "I'm 75 and have been taking 1.25 since I had a full hysterectomy at 36. 10 years ago, cut dose to .65 at Dr. recommendation. Noticed no change. Now taking .325 for about 4 weeks. Do notice I'm not tired, not as 'happy'... All those years, no side effects. Bone density excellent. General health excellent. Think I'll go back to .65, but it's expensive and insurance will not cover due to my age."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I have been taking Premarin a little over a month, and my hair is starting to fall out. I am having stomach issues now, including odd bloating, and I still have hot flashes every day. I used to take Enjuvia, and it was the best thing ever, but it is no longer being manufactured or distributed. I can't seem to tolerate anything else. Does anyone know of something better? I take the highest dose of this without causing the high risk for breast cancer. I wish this stuff would work for me :("

For Oophorectomy "I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 46 yrs. old. Went on Premarin tablets immediately. On the advice of my physician, I have tried several times to wean off. Unfortunately, side effects were terrible, so I always went back on until now. I’m now 74 years old. I started weaning off a few weeks ago and am now totally off. Other than a lot of hot flashes for the first week (not bad) and now just a few here and there, I’m doing great. I don’t think it helped my bones, as I have osteoporosis and am taking Risedronate for that."

For Oophorectomy "Had surgery in 1985 due to endometriosis. Am currently 72. My dosage is 1.25. A month after surgery, I was advised to take HRT 21 days on and 7 off and repeat. That left me with 'PMS' during the 7-day off period. Dr. advised that off time was necessary to avoid estrogen build-up. I decided to take estrogen for 5 days and 2 days off. This has served me well. Through the years, for one reason or another, I would try other products. BUT, I always returned to Premarin: the brand name. The generics I tried were always found wanting. Concerning insurance: while I was employed, the insurance was never a problem. I retired at 55 years old, receiving Social Security Disability. After being disabled for 2 years, one must apply and accept Medicare, changing all coverages and, in my case, lessening them. Medicare Part D has been a godsend for many, but not me."
