For Bacterial Infection "I had an infection in my wisdom tooth. My dentist gave me this antibiotic. After 2 days of taking it, I got very sick. My stomach was hurting really bad to the point I was crying. I was vomiting. That only lasted a day. But now, a week later, I've been having diarrhea like crazy. I've never gone to the doctor yet because I'm hoping this will just go away, but I don't think it will. DO NOT take this antibiotic. Please don't. It's the worst if you get the side effects that I got."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given one pill (125 mg) when I was in the ER for a sore ear and throat. The next morning, I had the worst heartburn/stomach pain I had in my life! Tums chews didn’t help. Pepto didn’t help. Clindamycin is the pits, and it will ruin your insides! And I was supposed to take it every 6 hours for 6 days! What? Please do not take it!"

For Bacterial Infection "I’m totally the type of person that doesn’t trust big pharma or anything of the government. I understand bacteria pills usually are not made to make us worse, but today I found out the clindamycin ones are. I have a root canal I need to take care of, the tooth pain has been horrible. Anyways, I just got home and took one literally 5 mins ago, and my whole chest and throat are on fire, my stomach feels horrible. And I’m in the bathroom trying to throw up. Hopefully, the tooth pain goes away. Do not trust this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "Had to take Mylan-Clindamycin 300 mg for 7 days for a tooth infection, and the first couple of days it made me very nauseous. Then, by the 4th day, it gave me extremely bad stomach pains, which I've later found out that the medication gave me a stomach ulcer, which is extremely painful when I eat or even drink water. I highly recommend not using this antibiotic."

For Bacterial Infection "Clindamycin is absolutely the worst medication I’ve ever taken. The stomach pains have been unbearable. Worst side effect is this nasty, red, itchy rash from head to toe. It’s unbearable and feels like you want sandpaper on your skin. Prescription was for ankle surgery and to prevent infection. I got a nasty rash that hasn’t gone away and is only getting worse. You can't be too far from a toilet. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION, CLINDAMYCIN SHOULD BE PULLED FROM THE MARKET."

For Bacterial Infection "I used the 300 mg clindamycin HCL. The first 24 hours, I had a pain in my stomach, it was like being poisoned. I puked and was up all night. I was scared to shut my eyes. Day 2, I was sick. Day 3, the medicine started working. Day 4, I was getting better. I needed this, I had 4 bad teeth, and on March 10th (today is the 19th of February), I get them all pulled as long as the infection goes away. Yeah..."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a sore throat that wouldn't go away. I was diagnosed with tonsillitis, then given this medication. First day was fine. Second day was fine. Third day - no sore throat - but things took a turn. My stomach was in so much pain, I was nauseous, felt like cramping, it was unbearable. I knew diarrhea was common, so I figured I should just suck it up. But the stomach pains were too much! I called my doctor, and they recommended I use a probiotic. So I picked up 'Culturelle.' Within 5 minutes of taking that (about 3 hours after I took my two doses of the antibiotics), I ran to the bathroom thinking I was going to throw up. I started to feel extremely dizzy, got really sweaty, and super disoriented. Super scary! Got off the meds."

For Bacterial Infection "I broke a tooth, it abscessed and was prescribed 300 mg 4x a day. Though the label stated may cause diarrhea, I blew it off as I never have side effects. Well, the first day I took 600 mg (2 pills) right away just to get it into my system, then figured I'll go by the prescribed dosage. I had diarrhea so bad, I had to take a day off of work, so I cut back to two pills a day. While diarrhea calmed down a bit, I then noticed I was having trouble swallowing, like my esophagus was 1/2 its size, and anything I ate was hard to get down, so I cut back to a pill a day, then finally every other day. Now my stomach feels tight like I did 100 sit-ups and bloating. When I eat now, it feels like I'm full after just a slice of toast, but still feeling hungry. The last pill I took was like two weeks ago, but I'm still trying to recover from this."

For Peritonitis "This was for the prevention of infection of the gums and teeth. Horrible experience, allergic severe diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea, also some weakness and stomach pain. This was not reported to the dentist, but returned to normal after the medication was finished. This was the worst antibiotic ever for me."

"Was prescribed a 7-day course of clindamycin by an oral surgeon due to the possibility of infection from a cracked tooth. Ten days after completion, I began experiencing severe diarrhea and stomach pains. Nearly two weeks later, when these symptoms hadn't gone away, my doc ordered a stool test and I was diagnosed with C. diff. Never had any health problems prior to this and now treating the C. diff. I will never, ever take clindamycin again."

For Bacterial Endocarditis Prevention "I am taking this 3 times a day for 7 days for endocarditis (which I survived the first and only time) prevention after a tooth extraction post an abscess on a molar. I neglected to thoroughly read the medication's instructions before starting and ended up with heartburn from hell, with esophageal pain, bloating, burping, etc. When I finally got around to reading the instructions (thanks to this web forum), I ate a probiotic yogurt and drank lots of water and did not lie down for 20 minutes post capsule. Whoopee! No heartburn, no esophageal pain, less bloat/burp; no stomach pain. It's imperative with this medicine to read and follow its instructions beforehand! At this point, I'll do whatever I have to in order to avoid another bout with endocarditis."

For Bacterial Infection "Got rid of my tooth infection prior to root canal in about a week from starting treatment. Gave me horrific gas, stomach pain, and acid reflux that is continuing to plague me a week after ceasing this treatment. I have never had bad acid reflux like this. It is destroying my quality of sleep and life. Coughing, sore throat, waking up writhing in pain in the middle of the night, and constant burning. Sure, the infected tooth was worse, but this medication is not far behind."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this for a week for bacterial vaginal infection. The day after I finished clindamycin, I started to feel sick. The next day I had chills and low-grade fever with stomach pains and heartburn. It is day 5 since I finished this medication and still not feeling well. I would never take this med. Plus, I read there is an FDA high warning it can cause C. diff. Google it. It's very scary!!"

For Bacterial Infection "I had to take this because penicillin wouldn't kill off my strep throat. The first dose I took of clindamycin on an empty stomach. Don't do that. It hurt my stomach, and I thought it was my fever putting me into a seizure. Retrospect, it was the pain from this med. The drug worked well, after a couple of days, all my symptoms were gone. But I took one on a severely empty stomach, and I've been so sick for 3 days now. It gave me severe tummy aches and horrible heartburn. I feel swollen and a lot of chest pain. Eat a lot of yogurt for the probiotics and ask your doctor for help if the heartburn becomes bad. This medication gets rid of all the bacteria, including the good ones that help you."

For Bone infection "Often prescribed for patients with penicillin allergy with tooth and jaw infection. I found that the stomach pain makes me not want to take it. I find that eating half your meal, taking the pill, then finishing your food somehow helps reduce the pain and nausea. It also helps cut down on the metallic acid taste in your mouth. Drink a DanActive with each pill, no matter what. Also...most important...get a script for Zofran, which is an anti-emetic or anti-nausea pill. Helps tremendously. I take less than prescribed because I weigh less, and it's much easier on the gut and still very effective. I'm not advising you to decrease doses unless you understand what you're doing. Can cause more harm that's not worth the reduction in side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "Do not take this medicine. It’s just another pill doctors can make money off of. I took this for tonsillitis/bacteria in my throat, and my legs were in excruciating pain the whole time. It felt like I had blood clots in them. I couldn’t sleep or sit. The only thing that would make the pain go away was when I would walk. I took so much Advil to counteract the pain that I got a stomach ulcer. I felt like the medicine was eating away at my body, so I stopped, and within 24 hours, the pain went away. I went on a detox because I felt that if I kept taking it, it would damage my nerves. The doctor said that I was crazy, but I’ve heard people with similar stories. Take Augmentin, amoxicillin, or penicillin. Stick to the classics. This was way too strong and damaging to the body. However, it did get rid of my throat infection in just a few days. But I could’ve taken amoxicillin and it would’ve done the same thing."

"I was given this drug after a root canal and temp crown placement. I wasn't having any symptoms of infection (pain/fever) prior to the procedure, so it seemed a little strange to be given this after, but I figured the dentist knew what she was doing. 300 mg every 6 hrs (4 X / day) for 2 weeks. Stomach pain/diarrhea started after 24 hrs. I called the dentist asking for something else and was told I didn't have to take it anymore if it was causing me issues. ??? WHAT-why was I even given this extreme antibiotic to begin with? I was on this med for 3 days, and 24 hrs after I'm still having bad digestive issues. I feel like it has caused an issue where there wasn't one originally. I will never take this ever again, just hope the damage isn't permanent."

"I had my wisdom teeth out in February. They gave me clindamycin, all they said is to take it 3 times a day for 10 days, and I did. I was constipated for 10 days, and once I stopped taking it, I started having loose stools. One week later, it turned into diarrhea, painful stomach cramps right after eating, and having to go to the bathroom right after. I went to the doctor, and they did tests, a sigmoidoscopy, and everything came out normal. He just gave me dicyclomine and Metamucil, and they help, but when I stop taking them, diarrhea comes back. He said I experienced post-antibiotic treatment diarrhea. So yeah, worst experience ever with this antibiotic!!"

"Was prescribed clindamycin for molar infection. Gastrointestinal side effects are off the charts in pain and suffering, with stomach pain, loose bowels, and diarrhea daily. Followed instructions while taking the medication regarding water, probiotics, taking with food, and not lying down for 10-30 minutes. Today is the 4th day after completing the course, my stomach is still agitated. My appetite is gone, but drinking buttermilk with a spoon of turmeric and ginger gives some relief, along with kefir and yogurt. I'm suspecting a C. difficile infection now. Horrifying experience I can't undo. I read and can agree, as another commenter said, 'gastroenterologists will tell you dentists should NOT be prescribing clindamycin anymore.'"

For Bacterial Infection "I had 4 days of IV clinda in the hospital, and it did help my infection improve, however, it caused me to vomit nonstop for 3 days and I couldn't keep any food down at all, not even liquids, so I had to have IV glucose and salts. I got switched to Augmentin, which I have come home on, but since the last 2 days of the clinda, I have had diarrhea very badly with stomach pain and continued nausea. I also developed a rash over my chest, neck, and face for a day, which subsided after the last dose. Overall, this drug works but has some pretty uncomfortable side effects."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed clindamycin for a middle ear infection. I was terrified of the reviews but was able to finish the bottle. I took the 300 mg 4 times a day for 10 days. The first 3 pills were fine, but by the 4th one, I felt so sick. Since there is limited space, I’ll just give my advice on how to get better. After the 6th day of taking this, I didn’t have any side effects. To avoid heartburn, you HAVE to drink a lot of water when taking this pill. I drank 24 oz each time. DO NOT lie down right after taking it. I usually stood up for 30 minutes after, and I also slept straight up on my couch. I also ate something either right before or 15 minutes before taking this. I got a slight heartburn once, but nothing else. To lower the risks of C. diff diarrhea, you definitely need probiotics in your life. I did have diarrhea and slight stomach pains for the first 4 days, but it was regular for the rest of the time. I ate probiotic yogurt 2 hours after each pill and found a probiotic pill. Be sure to take probiotics at least 2 hours after your antibiotic."
