For Bacterial Infection "I had a minor infection under a tooth, which I apparently had for 3 years. It became inflamed a couple of months ago, but the abscess swelling that was about the size of an M&M went down on its own a couple of weeks later, but with minor swelling remaining smaller than a BB. Saw my dentist for my cleaning, and they said time for a root canal. My doctor prescribed clindamycin 150 mg 4x day. I had an immediate reaction to this drug after every dose: the feeling that something was lodged in my esophagus, heavy chest pains, pressure in the chest, heartburn, burning in the stomach, and the feeling of gas pressure in the chest. This is a terrible drug. I had a week's worth of these drugs that took me 3 extra days to get through. My discomfort usually lasted about an hour tops, but I did experience some heartburn and did not get diarrhea until I was on pill number 30, who knows, maybe it was just something I ate. I am not a believer in poison being a cure, this drug, in my opinion, is poison."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this medication for a tooth infection - 300 mg 4 x day starting with a double dose as soon as I got home. The night I took the first 2 pills, I immediately had several bouts of diarrhea. The next day, when I moved down to 1 pill 4 x daily, I had more normal bowel motions. I did, however, stupidly take it close to bedtime and without heeding the warning re: lying down. I woke up with the worst heartburn/chest pain. I just finished my pills and look forward to no more heartburn."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Clindamycin caused excruciating esophageal and gastric pain, nausea, and a general feeling that I was going to die. I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme chest pain and couldn't even get out of bed, and eventually passed out. I was genuinely surprised to be alive when I woke up the next morning. I could only get through three days before the side effects became this severe, and they only got worse and worse. It took more than 8 months to fully recover, and I was living with severe heartburn, weakness, nausea, and inability to eat or drink without severe pain. Thousands of dollars of tests, additional drugs, probiotics, and self-medication later, it eventually got better. Upper endoscopy revealed severe gastritis, which I know was directly caused by clindamycin. Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "I began taking this yesterday for an infection due to a wisdom tooth extraction. I called my surgeon after just 3 doses and asked him to switch my prescription. Shortly after taking my first pill, I got awful heartburn. My entire body and organs felt terrible. It's been 13 hours after taking my last dose of it and I still have awful chest pain. This should be used as a last resort antibiotic."

For Bacterial Infection "Does its job, but about 5 days in, I'm having extreme heartburn, chest, and back pain. It's really painful, worst I've ever had. I thought about going to the hospital, but I'm drinking some warm tea, trying to take deep breaths."

For Bacterial Infection "Nightmare. Two hours after taking it, chest hurt, experienced urination retention (I had to concentrate to release pee), yikes. Could not lie back without heart feeling like it will explode. I think the medicine was trying to kill me. Throat felt weird beyond words. My uncle is a dentist and said this is one antibiotic to quit and not finish the bottle. I read about people who stuck it out and continued through the bizarre symptoms and side effects, and they regretted it. Sick for months after quitting."

For Bacterial Infection "Cleared up infection, but really hurt my stomach and finally gave me such horrible esophagus pain that I could not function. Even swallowing saliva became almost unbearable, and I had chest pain that hurt even between shoulder blades and out right ear. Never again for this drug!!"

For Bacterial Infection "The doctor gave me 300 mg four times a day for what they think is an infection in my foot after a drawer fell on my foot and had fluid on top of my foot with swelling. After the third dose, my throat was swollen. I couldn't swallow, and the left side of my chest hurt so bad it felt like a heart attack. I was itching so badly. I was so thirsty. I went to the ER, the doctor said he had never heard of anyone having a reaction to that medication. He gave me a shot of Benadryl, it helped. It wore off, and everything happened again. Days later, my stomach is cramping. I have been drinking Pedialyte and Gatorade. I still feel thirsty. I am allergic to penicillin and Bactrim, so the doctor thought this would be a good one. It is not. This is wicked stuff. I will NEVER EVER take it again."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have never had BV before, but I have to admit it, the medicine started to relieve all my symptoms within the first few days. I did experience nausea and chest pain, sore throat, but I feel like the good outweighed the bad. Through my treatment process, I have a few more days left, and I'm overall satisfied with my treatment."

For Bacterial Infection "Prescribed 300 mg 3x a day for five days. Take during a normal-sized meal. Side effects have been occasional diarrhea and now the worst chest pain/heartburn. Took the medicine before bed, didn't lie down until later, but woke up with incredible pain in my chest that spread. Before reading these posts, the chest pain was so bad I was ready to go to the ER. Unsure how long this heartburn will last, otherwise, this antibiotic did its job and the infection is mostly gone. Very effective. Still have a couple more days to go."

For Bacterial Infection "Started taking this a little over 2 weeks ago for a horribly infected molar. The pain was worse than I ever experienced in my life. The doctor gave me clindamycin at a very high dose as my infection was so bad that it was affecting my cheeks, all of the surrounding teeth of the infected, jaw, throat, etc. Within a couple of days, the pain subsided, and I had a root canal. However, now, after the 2 weeks, I have pain in my chest and back when inhaling, and all of my insides feel sore. I don't have the digestive issues like others talk about, but everything else hurts. It's a little scary. I'm hoping after a few days of not taking it, the pain will subside. It helped clear up the infection quickly, so I can't complain too much."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This has honestly been one of the worst experiences with medicine I've ever had. Dr. prescribed me 300 mg of this medicine, three times a day. First, no issues. I took my second pill with some yogurt and bread since it was later into the night. I sat up for about 20 minutes as the bottle says not to lay down for at least 10 minutes after taking. I woke up about 45 min with the worst pain in my chest and back, sharp burning pain, excruciating heartburn pain, and constant large painful burps. I seriously thought I was dying and almost went to the ER. After two pills, I stopped. It's been 2 days, and now it hurts to swallow down in my esophagus like there is a chemical burn. Feel like I have the flu all over. NEVER AGAIN."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "I was prescribed clindamycin by my oral surgeon as a prophylactic antibiotic before having my wisdom teeth extracted. Neither the doctor, pharmacist, nor the drug fact sheet indicated that it could cause severe heartburn or chest pains. Within a day of taking clindamycin, I had developed clenching chest/esophageal pain and heartburn. My doctor extended my clindamycin script to fight these symptoms. I went to the E.R. this morning for fear that my artificial pulmonary valve was infected. I was told to take Maalox. After stopping my clindamycin dosage (I have already finished all that were initially prescribed), my fever has broken, rash went away, and I feel drastically better."

For Bacterial Infection "The pill has worked great to get rid of my infection from a tooth, but the side effects have wiped me out. No diarrhea, but I thought I was having a heart attack, the chest pain was so bad, and the fatigue is getting worse the longer I'm on it. I'm supposed to take it 3 times a day, but can only manage 2. I have had nausea and some vomiting, but it is still better than the tooth abscess!"

For Surgical Prophylaxis "Ask the pharmacist if this antibiotic was strong or had any side effects. He said that it was not considered a strong antibiotic with any serious side effects. I rarely take antibiotics, avoiding them like the plague just because of bad side effects, but when I have to take them, I always increase my daily intake of probiotics and yogurt. None of that helped with this miserable drug. I was fine taking this drug the first three days, but then on day four, I took a pill with kefir (like yogurt) and had the most severe chest pain I ever had, which lasted for over two hours. Skipped the next two doses for the day. Tried one the next morning - had some discomfort. Next dose, more chest pain as if having a heart attack and still have terrible discomfort."

For Bacterial Infection "Took for root canal and tooth infection. Take with water and most likely after eating. If chest pains and/or heartburn, I found Alka-Seltzer worked the best and fastest. Also try the live culture yogurt and foods high in fiber."

For Sinusitis "Started taking clindamycin for a sinus infection. On day one, I took one pill at breakfast and one at lunch. When I took one pill at dinner, I was having difficulty swallowing. It felt like there was something stuck in my throat. Also, in my sternum area, I felt a tightening. I didn't know what was happening. The next morning, I looked up the side effects, and difficulty swallowing and tightness in the chest are listed. I switched to a different antibiotic and will avoid this one, as it obviously affects me."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given clindamycin 300 mg for a sinus infection. My chest is really tight, and I feel like my throat is also tight. Heartburn is like you would not believe, and there are sores on my tongue. I would not recommend this medicine at all to anybody. Calling my doctor in the morning."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed clindamycin for an ingrown hair. I only took 2 out of the 21 pills prescribed. I got extreme throat and chest pain from taking this, as well as tingling in my tongue. It’s been almost two weeks since I stopped taking it, and my stomach is burning in pain all day, every day. I can barely eat, can't drink coffee or wine. Can’t enjoy any of the foods I like. NEVER AGAIN!!! Worst antibiotic I’ve ever taken in my life. I regret taking those two pills."

For Bacterial Infection "The first day of taking this medicine, I was fine, actually, it made my throat feel even better. It was the next day that scared me. Up until now, I thought I wasn't allergic to anything (especially medicine), turns out, I was completely wrong. At first, it just started with a stuffy nose, but then it started to get worse as time went by. My chest started to become tight, and my throat felt like it had become a bit swollen again. Combining all of this, it was a little hard to breathe. I first thought it was the pain medication I was taking along with this antibiotic, so I stopped taking it, and I did become a bit better. It was my next dose that proved me wrong. I woke up to not only trembling nonstop (with numbness) but also finding it very hard to breathe."

For Bacterial Infection "I’m totally the type of person that doesn’t trust big pharma or anything of the government. I understand bacteria pills usually are not made to make us worse, but today I found out the clindamycin ones are. I have a root canal I need to take care of, the tooth pain has been horrible. Anyways, I just got home and took one literally 5 mins ago, and my whole chest and throat are on fire, my stomach feels horrible. And I’m in the bathroom trying to throw up. Hopefully, the tooth pain goes away. Do not trust this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "I got prescribed clindamycin HCL 300 mg to take orally three times a day for my impetigo on my chin (school sores). At first, it was going as regular, but then I suddenly started having chest pain and discomfort. My chest felt like it had a car on it. I’m discontinuing this prescription and using the cream."

For Bacterial Infection "My daughter took clindamycin 300 mg 3X a day for severe kissing tonsils (swollen tonsils that meet in the midline or overlap), couldn’t talk, and a lymph node in the side of her neck had her neck swollen. A swab of her throat and culture of it, along with blood culture, were negative. She had a dose of the IV form in the hospital and then continued it at home in pill form for 5 days. Each day her stomach and chest hurt more. By day 5, she was vomiting and having severe chest pain and refused to continue the medicine, saying it was making her miserably ill. I do believe it’s because I couldn’t get her to drink enough fluids when she took the pill to wash it down well. It did help her tonsils. I hope the 5 days and the IV dose were enough because the hospital wouldn’t call in something different to replace it, and we don’t have insurance at the moment. This medicine works well, but like on the bottle, don’t lay down for 10 minutes after taking it and drink a full glass of water with it. I also believe eating before taking it would help."

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking clindamycin 300 mg three times a day for 5 days for an infected tooth extraction. I tried Amoxicillin first, but it didn't work. I noticed a pain in my chest after the second day. Also, I was really nauseous. Today, my thumb on my left hand is hurting so bad. I didn't injure it in any way. It is a joint pain. The clindamycin is helping with the painful infection of my gum, but I can't wait until I am finished taking it."
