"Took this for 10 days after dental surgery. A week or so later, I developed pretty much non-stop diarrhea, which was then diagnosed as Clostridium difficile, aka CD. Took drugs for 7 months (Flagyl) until it finally went away with Vancomycin. Stay away from clindamycin!"

"I have taken clindamycin close to 8 times now for infected teeth, gum abscesses, and full-blown MRSA, and it has been the only antibiotic that has done the job. I’d also like to mention for any of those reading this that I suffer from severe emetophobia. I’ve been on the highest dose as well as the lowest, and as long as I drink TONS of water, DO NOT lie down for a solid 30-45 minutes, take a probiotic, and keep eating small meals, I have minimal side effects with this antibiotic. That’s not to say I don’t experience the occasional stomach discomfort, weird taste in my mouth, brain fog, dizziness, but it also depends on what I’m being treated for and how bad that infection is to begin with. A dose of this and a shot of Toradol in the ER knocked my 10/10 tooth/jaw pain down to a 2/10 within 10 minutes as I refuse any narcotics. This medication may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you have a severe infection that is at risk of spreading, I highly recommend giving it a shot."

"I was scared to use this clindamycin medication because I had read many negative things about this one. I decided to just start taking it 20 days after being prescribed. I started taking probiotic capsules on the same day I started this medication. I also ate yogurt every time I took it. I made sure that I always had food in my stomach and drank a full glass of water. It did help me heal. No side effects."

"Extreme heartburn is what I experienced when taking clindamycin. I was diagnosed with cellulitis on my foot, and the Augmentin I was given at urgent care wasn't helping. The wound care clinic at my local hospital bumped me up to the stronger clindamycin. The warning label said don't lie down for ten minutes after taking. Found out the hard way it's because if you do, the heartburn is unlike any previous heartburn pain I'd had before! It was at least three times worse! I tend to have heartburn a lot, almost daily, and this medicine was so painful to finish!"

"I took this recently for one week because I had cellulitis on my upper lip and right cheek due to a pimple that was popped by my doctor. I would recommend this especially to those who are allergic to penicillin. I took ceftriaxone before this for two weeks, and in the middle of my medication, I broke into hives. So, to everyone, when the doctor says 'there's only a 3% chance of penicillin allergy,' just say NO. The side effects with clindamycin for me were loose stools and joint pains. Good thing I found this forum, so I'm still taking my probiotic pills and also Activia. So far, my bowel movement is not a problem, and my stool is getting better."

"I took this antibiotic almost 3 years ago to prevent infection after my cats attacked me because I had several bites and scratches. This drug gave me diarrhea the entire time I was on it, a week I think. Of course, I had just had a baby, so I was barely sleeping and not eating much either. Still, I won't take this drug again."

"Tooth abscess, a root canal didn’t fully clear, new weird allergy to penicillin, first time on clindamycin. Moderate colon cramping that stops right before I take the next dose. Loud rumbles from my colon, but nothing happens. Not that bad, though. Makes me super hungry for some reason."

"Due to cellulitis on my ankle, I was given clindamycin, and as the pharmacist suggested, I immediately began taking a high dosage of probiotics. In spite of the precaution, I developed a full-body rash and 3 bouts of C. difficile. The cellulitis was therefore treated with yet another antibiotic. The cellulitis finally healed completely after 2 months, and the C. difficile was eventually cleared, and after 6 months, the lab results came back negative (meaning I no longer had it). I continue to take probiotics, but a lower dosage, for sheer fright of the CD recurring. I was told that continual bouts of CD would likely eventually require surgical intervention. A VERY frightening experience."

"Thought I could not continue with this antibiotic, the burning of my stomach was so bad, even though I ate beforehand and took a very tall glass of water with it. It was clearly working on my cellulitis, so I tried taking it with a very tall glass of almond milk and a piece of toast. It worked. Chug the glass when you take the milk, and eat the toast right afterward and wash it down with water."

"I was given clindamycin for a tooth extraction. I started the antibiotic on April 21st, 2020. I finished on April 28th, 2020. I was prescribed 300 mg 4x per day. By April 24th (4 days on the antibiotic), I started having diarrhea. It is now May 12th, 2020, and it had been 18 days with diarrhea. I had to go in for a stool sample last week to see if I had C. diff. That test came back negative, but I'm still dealing with diarrhea. This medicine is so strong, and my whole gut is messed up. Wish I had pushed harder for amoxicillin and never got put on this. I’m miserable."

"I was given this drug for a pilonidal cyst. I was nauseous the first day. Diarrhea started 3 days in and got so bad I had to stop. Have been off it for 2 days and still have diarrhea and feel wiped out. I won't be taking it again. Lost 4 pounds in 3 days. Still taking probiotics, hoping this subsides soon."

"I started using clindamycin phosphate 1% 60 mg about a week ago. I was hoping for a quick fix to clear up my stubborn acne, and I didn't think this was helping. If you are struggling to get rid of those stubborn whiteheads, closed comedones, and blackheads, here is what I did, and I noticed a difference in my skin the next day: First, I used micellar water to remove any dirt or makeup, then I boiled some water and steamed my face for about five mins (which I never do). Once I did that, I cleansed with CeraVe cleansing wash with salicylic acid and dried my skin with a clean towel, and then I applied the clindamycin. I was so surprised to see the difference the next day! I had clear skin on my forehead and underneath my eye area, and my cheeks looked clearer. Everyone's skin is different, but I struggled the worst with congested pores. I would suggest giving it a try. I will continue this regimen. Hope this helps!"

"I was on day six of the seven-day course and was about to rate clindamycin a ten, then, in 30 minutes, my body was covered with a rash and hives known as a drug eruption. Now just hoping I don’t get C. diff in addition, but have had no problems on that end, maybe because I took probiotics. It cured my abscess, but I am allergic to it, so never again!"

"I was prescribed Cleocin for a MRSA infection of the skin. While the medicine began working within 2-3 hours, the side effects have been horrid! I've had fever and chills and feel like I have the flu times ten. My body aches, my head aches. I will be contacting my doctor as soon as possible to either come off or try something else. I don't care for the taste of Flagyl, but I'd take it any day rather than feel as bad as I do on this medicine!"

"I took one dose of 150 mg clindamycin that was prescribed for my acne. About an hour after taking it, I had extreme throat pain, and the pill felt stuck in my esophagus. I started drinking water and eating soft foods in hope of dislodging the pill. Absolutely no luck. I’ve been drinking as much water as I can for the last 4 days, and it still is just as painful to eat. It’s ridiculous that swallowing my own spit has to hurt this bad. I obviously stopped taking the pill after the first ONE. That was enough to make me never want to take this pill again. So it’s day 4, and I’m still feeling like this pill is still in my throat, and my whole chest burns when I eat, breathe, or drink."

"If you are bipolar, do NOT take clindamycin unless you want to end up in the hospital. This clindamycin has caused me off-the-charts mania/anxiety/panic that left me with suicidal ideation. The stomach cramps and heart palpitations are also something I could do without. Miserable, bedbound, and hoping for it all to finally end. There is ZERO reason why this junk should be on the market. It literally destroys your digestive system. It did nearly get rid of my boil, but I had to stop before ending up inpatient."

"I took this for the first time due to a fairly serious infection of my big toe. I didn't respond to whatever had been prescribed earlier, and my toe was showing early signs of necrosis. Each time I take one of the 'easy' antibiotics that is not hard on you, I feel bad, generalized fatigue and lethargy seems to take over. I had no problems whatsoever and felt great on clindamycin. I did not drink water, take probiotics, or eat yogurt. It cleared up the infection fast, and I felt fine."

"I was prescribed clindamycin 150 mg 4 times a day for aggressive impetigo, and it gave me C. diff. Even though I was eating yogurt/taking antibiotics. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG unless you have a VERY strong immune system, as this drug can give you C. diff. I’m on Flagyl to get rid of it now, and I switched to erythromycin, and I’m seeing improvements in my impetigo, whereas with clindamycin, I saw none."

"I had a finger infection, so I was prescribed 300 mg 3x/day for 5 days. I took it with a cup of water and ate yogurt probably about 3-4 of those days. The doctor told me to eat yogurt every day. Everything went well. My finger started to heal and the skin peeled about 2 weeks after finishing the medication. About a week after I finished the pills, I started having soft stools every day. Now I’m 3 weeks post, and it’s more of a diarrhea consistency with a headache. I’m drinking more water and will start yogurt again to see if it helps. Will update."

"Fabulous experience with clindamycin. Had a bad cut on my finger, which spread badly and looked like it was going septic - began to look like a sausage. My local urgent care prescribed Keflex, which did nothing, and I wound up going to another ER after a week of the useless Keflex. PMC gave me a 20-minute IV of this, and I continued with the capsules afterward. By the fifth day, it was just about back to normal. Absolutely unbelievable how quickly it worked. I'd had a bad experience before but was taking Synthroid and Depakote at the time - I attribute that one instance to drug interaction. It seems even vitamins and ibuprofen and aspirin interact."

"Took this medication intravenously in the hospital with no problem. Now I am taking it in pill form at 150 mg a pop for 1 week and 2 days. Just washed my face as always in the AM and noticed all these red bumps on my face, neck, and upper arms. Just trying to find out if this is from the medication? Haven't eaten anything different or used anything different. At a complete loss..."

"My doctor recommended the gel for me because I had severe acne. A couple of weeks in, I started to have a sensation as if something was stuck in my throat. I brushed it off and it went away for a while, but then it came back and worse, but this time with an excessive supply of mucus. I was so confused until I realized that it was my medication. Not only did I have throat problems, but I also had mild diarrhea, sharp pains in my stomach and chest, and heartburn, which has never happened to me before. I didn't even help my acne for that long. I stopped using it, and my health went back to normal. I am never going to even touch this again."

"Took clindamycin 150 mg dose 3x day for 7 days after tooth extraction. Developed severe burning tongue with metallic taste, which has persevered now three days post ending drug treatment. How long will it take for this terrible side effect to go away? Anything I can do to hasten recovery?"

"I take propranolol for a heart murmur and react to every medication. I'm allergic to penicillin. These reviews had me terrified. If you've been prescribed this medication, just take it. I've had no reaction at all. Take it after you eat and with a big glass of water. I've experienced zero effects. It does work fast, so whatever you are taking it for, expect relief."

"I've been on clindamycin multiple times: 450 mg every 8 hours for 7 days, 300 mg every 8 hours for 7 days, 300 mg every 12 hours for 10 days. Knocks out MRSA cellulitis/folliculitis like no other. A combo of Keflex and doxy for 20 days did nothing except land me in the ER with MRSA sepsis, where IV clindamycin took care of it in 24 hours. I now ask for it by name. It's going to work, trust me. Side effects for me personally are body/joint aches, tiredness, and a bit of brain fog. Extreme nausea and reflux occurred the first time I took it, until I learned to only drink water while taking it. Cut out everything else you drink, especially carbonated drinks, and stick to water."
