Butorphanol for Pain "I have tried just about everything for migraine pain. I am sensitive/allergic to the triptans. Plus, most of them last about 4-6 hours, my headaches last about 36, and you aren't supposed to use them two days in a row. I use Stadol for relief from the pain when it becomes unbearable. I use self-hypnosis, biofeedback, and Aleve, but there are times when I need something stronger. This works quickly, and there is no risk of vomiting it up as with a pill."

For Pain "I have had migraines for over ten years and have tried all of the preventative medications. They just do not work for me. When my migraine hits and the nausea and/or vomiting accompany the migraine, I find that this nasal spray quickly and effectively eases the pain. I think that being able to administer it nasally is great since my nausea is so bad that I am unable to keep anything down long enough for it to take effect. It is a very strong medication and I am unable to operate a motor vehicle after taking it, so I always lay down in the dark with a cool rag over my face. This is, to me, the most effective medication I have taken for this kind of pain."

Butorphanol for Labor Pain "I had an intolerance to this drug, and it was horrible. And immediate! I became delusional and paranoid within a minute of it being put into my IV. I then became very sick and continued to vomit through my mouth and nose for 6 hours. My eyes kept rolling back in my head as if I was going to pass out, but with the constant vomiting, I knew I could not fall asleep. I was given Stadol to alleviate pain caused by Pitocin (induced labor). I've no idea if it helped with that, for it just gave me all new horrible symptoms (nausea, stomach and throat pain from constant vomiting, the worst delusions I've ever had)."

For Pain "This nasal spray was very effective in stopping severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and nausea. It worked for several hours when nothing else was held down. Why would doctors give oral medicines for vomiting when a nasal alternative is available?"

For Labor Pain "I have been stuck in prodromal labor for over two weeks, and after a lot of talking into and lack of sleep, I agreed with my midwife to try 1 mg (only half of the normal dose) of Stadol with Zofran to ensure that I get some rest. Not only did I not rest, but my contractions got stronger (still not productive) and more painful, the room was spinning, and I still threw up for the duration. It kicked up contractions to 2 minutes long with only 30 seconds in between on top of the vomiting and dizziness. Not to mention that I became very difficult to deal with and talk to at this point. It made a bad and emotionally trying day even worse. I will never use or recommend this drug."
