"I have suffered from migraines since I was 9 years old when I started my period. I was always tired and depressed after my period started, because of the blood loss. I saw a Neurologist in 1997 and my Doctor prescribed Butorphanol. I was amazed how much better I felt. I am now 68 years old and I have been taken off Butorphanol several times and I always felt worse. I just recently voluntarily took myself off of Butorphanol because of all the abuse I experienced with the Pharmacies. I have been back on Butorphanol for the last 2 months and finally feel better. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis along with 20 operations due to Connective tissue problems and Gastrointestinal motility issues. I thank God everyday I wake up and able to move. I train Dogs and have extensive education in many fields. Butorphanol helps me feel normal without pain."

Stadol (butorphanol) "I went to the ER with aneurysm symptoms and was administered Stadol Via IV. The nurse explained that it would make me sleepy and help with the pain in my head. Immediately I felt a little sleepy followed by nauseous and very warm all over. Within a few minutes I started to feel VERY uncomfortable in my own skin. I felt as if I had a horrible hangover or something. As I fell asleep I began having horrible nightmares. This experience was the first time I've been given the drug to my knowledge. Overall it made me feel kind of panicked and frightened. I hopefully will never be given this medication again."

"I was given butorphanol for severe abdominal pain related to Crohn's disease when none of the typical meds worked for me. It is amazingly effective. The first time I took this nasal spray my pain disappeared in about 7 minutes. Nothing has ever worked for my pain before until taking this. And since I have Crohn's disease, the nasal spray is brilliant because it doesn't go through the digestive system and cause other symptoms. Made me a little sleepy, but less each time I take it. It's been a miracle for me."

"The nasal spray was very effective with just one dose and resting. Sometimes my migraines last for days even after a toradol injection. I only have a severe migraine about 3 times a month. But who wants to lose a whole day or days because of them. The butorphanol spray a perfect for me."

"Butorphanol has been the only migraine medicine that consistently works quickly and effectively. After trying over 2 dozen different medications with poor results, this medicine is the solution to my daily headaches. I am now productive again and have rejoined the human race!"

Stadol (butorphanol) "Omg I was given Stadol in my arm where my IV was to start. I went to ER for throwing up and throat burning and right side of my throat was closing up like swollen and on fire. They took blood, a pee test and came back with zofran in my IV and had me drink this Cocktail stuff that had lidocaine in it. Made my throat burn worse. I think they gave me WAY too much of Stadol. Weirdest feeling ever!!! Felt like I was flipping backwards, my body was being pulled forcing my whole body and brain n eyes. Felt so panicky, freaked out, the worst drunk feeling ever. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. Coming down from that scary high. Still can't stand up by myself. Do not take it. I would rather have the pain than have to take this again"

"My neurologist prescribed butorphanol medication to me after trying so many other medications for my migraines. I take 2 other medications as well (preventative and a triptan). But I reserve this one for when I cannot get rid of the pain. Butorphanol is an absolute life saver for those really bad migraines! I am not sure what I would do if they stop making it! I no longer need to go to the ER and I feel like I can have an almost normal life. The pain stops almost instantly and my migraine is just gone."

"No matter what, I carry a headache (4-5 pain scale) DAILY, some turn severe 10 scale migraines 3-5 times weekly. I did imaging scans, EEGs, both short and 3 day through stay in hospital. I was told by 1st neurologist that some "speckling" and slight abnormalities (grey matter) this led to a referral from that Dr, to my 2nd neurologist that I have had now for 3yrs. He graduated me up to stronger meds after lots of trials. This is what's working. 600mg lyrica daily. 7.5 norco & staydol. Much less pain. Norco is not as good anymore. Have asked for stronger but was refused. Good luck to all. Ask for SPECT test. Google it so you can explain to your Dr. I had too."

"So I was administered this medication when I was in early high school. I gave it a 10 because it was great for pain relief on the other hand very addicting. A year passed I used it once. Into year two I had another stomach attack and had to use the butorphonal once more. I then continued to have pain that entire week and "had" to use the butorphonal again and again. My point here is this drug is great for pain if you don't have an addictive personality because like me I did as an early freshman and ended up in a rehab facility detoxing, no one should have to go through that ever."

Stadol (butorphanol) "I was prescribed Stadol at the age of 15 after suffering from migraine headaches that left me holding my head and literally screaming for my parents to help me. Did Stadol work? Oh absolutely. Unfortunately it also gave me my first high - my first experience with opioids and years upon years of substance abuse once the nose spray was discontinued. YES it helps. But I'd NEVER recommend it to anyone. It is highly addictive. I'd love to have the chance to tell that family doc from many years ago how screwed up it was to prescribe this to a young kid."

"I have had migraines for over ten years and have tried all of the preventative medications. They just do not work for me. When my migraine hits and the nausea and/or vomiting accompany the migraine, I find that this nasal spray quickly and effectively eases the pain. I think that being able to administer it nasally is great since my nausea is so bad that I am unable to keep anything down long enough for it to take effect. It is a very strong medication and I am unable to operate a motor vehicle after taking it, so I always lay down in the dark with a cool rag over my face. This is, to me, the most effective medication I have taken for this kind of pain."

Stadol (butorphanol) "I was given stadol for a burned foot. within 30 minutes I could not control any part of my body. I was limp all over and drooling. The next morning I was having terrible thoughts and felt drugged out. Horrible experience... I never want that drug again.."

"I have been on injection butorphanol for 19 1/2 years due to multiple injuries sustained in an assault on active duty. Unable to take any other narcotic I was put on this. Though people are different it is almost impossible to get physically addicted to this medicine. It is very expensive, so after all these years of being in relative freedom of great pain I am now bed ridden due to the VA hospital refusing to pay for it anymore. "

"This nasal spray was very effective in stopping severe abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea. It worked for several hours when nothing else was held down. Why would doctors give oral medicines for vomiting when a nasal alternative is available?"

Stadol (butorphanol) "I was diagnosed with Icepick headaches. My Doctor prescribed Stadol Nose Spray. My directions were to use it when I felt the headache begin then stop when the headache disappeared. I started getting the symptoms and used the nose spray. It made me feel worse. The only way to explain it was I felt high. The feeling was so awful, so I immediately threw the nose spray in the trash. I read the other reviews and I'm happy to see others getting relief from this medicine. I wish I was one. Now I was waken up with the stabbing pain on the right side of my head with nothing but a prayer to get me through this."

Stadol (butorphanol) "Was very helpful. A dr prescribed stadol to me when I was 19. Before I realized it I was taking it even when I didn't really need and was quickly addicted. I've been addicted to opiates ever since. It's been a long rough road and I'm currently clean but this was so not worth the pain it helped. Dr.s should never prescribe this to anyone to take home and take whenever they want. In a controlled setting only."

"I was initially prescribed this for frequent migraines - I cannot take triptan meds so if Fioricet didn't work for a severe migraine, then I would use this. I have to say, it didn't always work for very long for the migraine pain. What it does work very well for is pain from my chronic kidney stones (I have permission from my doc to use it for the stones). Kidney stones are extremely painful, and when my Percocet does nothing for the stone pain, I take the Butorphanol nose spray. It has kept me out of the ER on many occasions."

"I was given Stadol a time ago while going to the hospital for a bad migraine. The medicine worked so well that I asked my Doctor if I could have a prescription, I took this medicine for over a year for all my pain. When first taking it, I was loopy. I had to take phenergan with it to control the naseau. But this pain killer was a blessing. I use to get sick from home movies and motion sickness. After taking thisI was able to watch home movies and even got to ride on a ride with my child for the first time in a while without getting sick. After my body got use to it, all I felt from it was releif. I am off it now and I had no side effects from stopping. I did not stop slowly either. It was not addicting at all . Not having pain was addicting"

Stadol (butorphanol) "I'm a retired L&D nurse. Stadol/phenergan and then stadol/benadryl IV was given routinely for labor pain. I began self medicating with stadol/phenergan to treat severe insomnia. I found myself unable to stop without experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. When I began abusing stadol in 1997 it was not stored with the narcotics nor was included in the daily narcotic count. I used for 4 years. I self reported to employee health and entered into treatment. Stadol, in my experience, has extreme abuse and addiction potential. I experienced extreme withdrawal symptoms for 5 days and then extreme cravings for years. I am clean today and have been drug free for over 18 years and was able to return to nursing (meeting all requirements of the State Licencing Board). I share this experience in the hopes of spreading more awareness, especially to healthcare professionals, on the potential abuse and addiction of stadol."

"I was recently prescribed this medication for migraines. I used it for the first time a few days ago for a migraine that lasted 11 hours. I took four doses over that time and experienced no relief at all. In fact, it made feel even worse- all spacey sick and dizzy- and not in a nice way. The only pain killer that has ever worked for my migraines was Demerol, and I don't see my doctor giving me that any time soon. Such a shame since Butorphanol sounded so good being a strong narcotic nasal spray, I was really hoping it would work."

"I was put on Stadol nasal spray about a month after neck surgery. It worked fairly well but electrifying pain down both arms returned in about 2-3hrs. Not able to lay down at all I slept on an incliner sofa w/bottle on table to my left. Early one morning I found myself slumped over to my right & knew what was going to happen. I had to get that bottle & screamed in pain waking my husband. I don't think it should be used long term, it irritated nasal passages. If you are addicted then get help, not fair to others who aren't."

"I have had migraine for 35 years, At times I was prescribed 250 mg of Demerol that could be taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed. If that didn't work I was to take 10 of Morphine. Then I read about Stadol , took the article to my doctor. He said it sounded promising. I would get a migraine and would take my Stadol. Within a few minutes I would go to sleep, and stay asleep for exactly 4 hours, when I woke up my head felt so much better. I used that medicine for years, and only used it if I had to . I left Kaiser and went to UH, I was kept on the Butorphanol but tried everything including Botox with no luck, She left . I went to a new doctor who said I could no longer get the nose spray that it was outlawed, My migraines at times last days. I get them often. I take nothing for them. When they are bad my left eye droops, I sometimes drag my left foot at their worst my body shakes. I take no narcotics, they don't work, so why take them."
