Atovaquone for Babesiosis "While on Mepron, I noticed a gradual intensification of depression and psychological manifestations. At first, I was not concerned and just attributed it to temporary hormonal fluctuations or whatever. As the fourth month approached, it had become much more intense and consistent. I was not making any progress in any other area, and I could no longer deny the effect Mepron was having on me. Did not help me at all!"

Atovaquone "Too bad they can’t do an allergy test for it before prescribing it. Atovaquone (Mepron) was given to me as a preventative medicine against the risk of contracting pneumonia while in the hospital. I had just been moved to a different hospital after already spending a week in ICU at another hospital, so it was at this stage it was prescribed. I reacted with swelling of my throat, lips, then hives all over my face and other areas. Thankfully, I was already in a hospital when it happened. I had already been having some swallowing difficulties (as a result of being paralyzed on my left side by what eventually got diagnosed as MS), so it was a scary reaction to experience and upsetting to look at (hives on my face, neck, etc.). It took several days to resolve. Now I always list it as an allergy on any medical questionnaires. Most doctors will ask me what it is, as they have never heard of it. I am a woman who was in my mid-40s when this occurred in 2013."

For Babesiosis "The prescription came in a 500 ml bottle without any measuring system. The pharmacy eventually came up with a 2' long calibrated syringe, which didn't reach more than a third of the way down the dispensed bottle. When the pharmacist was asked about this, I was told to use a 'Benadryl cap'!!! to dispense the syrup and aspirate with a small plastic syringe. I think the company that makes this medicine should provide some sort of medicine measuring device that you can use so that the patients can measure an accurate dose! What in hell is a 'Benadryl cap,' and why would the pharmacist be recommending it? Klaus Nuki DDS, PhD."

Atovaquone for Babesiosis "I have been on this med, Mepron, for months, and while I don't feel like I have cleared the infection, it does help. I am not struggling to breathe as much as I was before."

For Malaria "This medicine really works. The only problem I had was having a rash from eating Chinese food."

Atovaquone for Babesiosis "It's taking a while to work, but I have had some improvements. I have been taking it for about 2 months now, but my doctor says it will take about 6 months to work, so we'll see. I tested positive for 2 different types of babesia plus Lyme, so it may take me longer to get better than others with just babesia."
