For Middle Ear Infections "For my son, who got multiple ear infections, Augmentin worked well. We always increase his yogurt intake while on antibiotics, and he's had little to no trouble with this side effect. Seems to taste okay to him too. Good drug... try to be proactive about the diarrhea and/or yeast infection with probiotics and taking the med with food. My two cents..."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 to be taken twice a day for 10 days to try and prevent infection from a bad cat bite. I did experience symptoms, but because I suffer from IBS, it mostly seemed like an IBS flare to me. The looser stools started on day two, but they were not diarrhea. That was it until around day 8 when I bloated like you wouldn't believe. It was all up in my stomach, and nothing gave me relief. However, I continued taking my pills and my probiotics and finished a couple of days ago. The side effects were not pleasant, but they were much less unfortunate than I was expecting after reading reviews. I never got an infection from the cat bite, which normally leads to one in about 80% of people. So, the drug worked!"

For Strep Throat "Diagnosed with strep throat and a perforated eardrum... I was in a ton of pain. Augmentin got rid of the ear pain and throat pain in 2 days, but the pure liquid diarrhea is nonstop. So, of course, I'm an idiot and feel better, so I stopped taking it after 3 days. Well, day 6 I am back (worse) with the strep throat, so I start taking it again. The heartburn is out of control and diarrhea ASAP again. Pain in my throat is so bad I am trying to bear the side effects. I take a probiotic every day, and I currently just took Pepto with hope of some relief."

For Bacterial Infection "As advised by the doctor, take with probiotics - took one pill at 8:30 (1/2) apart, then around 11:00 started throwing up for over an hour, then got diarrhea - guess I didn't have enough food on my stomach - will not complete the dosage."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (Amox-Clav) 125 mg every twelve hours for 10 days. Starting having diarrhea the day I started, and by day five, I became so sick I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. Horrible stomach pain and cramps, fever, extreme weakness, painful muscles, mainly in legs, nasty sweat, nightmares, and I lost my sense of smell...which may have been a good thing since I was pretty much stuck in the bathroom. The fever and pain lasted two days after I stopped taking the Augmentin on day five. The diarrhea has continued (on day eight after discontinuing drug) and is pretty much spontaneous. I can’t go anywhere. I have never had stomach issues in my life (I’m 50). I fear my gut is damaged beyond repair. This is a nasty, nasty drug. Also, has worsened my depression and mental state in general."

For Sinusitis "So I was prescribed Augmentin on Friday to treat really bad sinuses, and the doctor told me not to start it until what would’ve been today, but when I went to the ER that night, they said that I should start Augmentin. I took my first dose, I didn’t see any differences, although I already had a fever and my heart rate was pretty high because I was fighting off an infection. My second dose kept me up all night long. My third dose made me sleepy and lethargic all yesterday. My fourth dose, I wasn’t feeling better or worse, but at one random point, I checked my heart rate, and it was 172, and my fiancé said that wasn’t right, and something about the app that I use was wrong. I didn’t feel it. So all weekend long, I had a horrible cough, and every time I would cough, my back would seize up, and I would be in excruciating pain. I attribute this to being on my couch, however, I do not believe that’s the case. My diarrhea has been pretty substantial."

For Sinusitis "This is my experience with Augmentin. I have a history of severe anxiety and am generally sensitive to medications. I had a tooth extraction and bone graft but also ended up with ear and sinus pain. I was given Augmentin and figured I'd be fine. I took the first dose and was okay. The next morning, I had very loose stool and a bit elevated heart rate. The second dose in the evening, I had a horrible panic attack to the point where I nearly passed out/went to the hospital. The next morning, I took my dose and ended up with an awful panic attack again a few hours later. That's when I called my doctor and was told to switch to Amoxicillin. Everyone's body reacts differently. Definitely keep track of your symptoms, drink a lot of water, and rest!"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Throughout the whole course, I had horrible nausea and diarrhea. :/ Two weeks after finishing the course, I'm still sick! So fatigued, flu-like symptoms, chills and sweats, terrible cramps, and always in the bathroom. I've now been diagnosed with colitis from Augmentin. I'm more sick after the course than I was before I actually needed the antibiotics! I've never had a reaction to any other antibiotic, so would never take that again."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I took this medicine for a tooth abscess that couldn't be drained during the root canal. Severe diarrhea, headaches, minor heartburn, and I felt as though my throat were closing (doc said minor allergic reaction). I have been taking a probiotic and eating yogurt, but it hasn't helped with the stomach upset at all. It helped with the abscess, but 8 days later it isn't completely cleared. I've been switched to Clindamycin due to the tightening in my throat. Scared to death and sick of antibiotics."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've had to take this multiple times now for extended periods of time due to tick bites because I cannot tolerate doxycycline. It hurts my stomach and makes me nauseous, causes diarrhea, but stay on top of the probiotic supplements, and it will resolve shortly after your antibiotics are finished."

"I was in the hospital with what the doctors said was a septic chest infection. My WBC is extremely, extremely low, so infection doesn’t seem to make sense. I also had zero chest symptoms (no cough, sore throat, or anything at all). But they prescribed me Augmentin, so I thought I would take it, even though I do not think I have a chest infection. You could not pay me any amount of money to take it ever again. I’ve only taken 1 pill out of my prescribed 30, and the diarrhea is next level. It’s literally WATER. It’s like peeing out of my butt, there’s no substance at all, and I’ve had a few accidents. It’s embarrassing feeling like I’m a geriatric patient when I am, in fact, usually young, fit, and healthy. The diarrhea still hasn’t subsided, and it’s been over 24 hours since I last took it. I can’t leave my house in case I have an accident. Do not take this medicine unless you absolutely have to. I just want the diarrhea to stop :( no other symptoms."

For Bronchitis "After just 2 doses of planned 10-day 2x/day 875 mg treatment, got violently ill, literally projectile vomited on brand new carpet as I couldn't get the 10 feet to the toilet fast enough. Stopped medicine immediately but still had massive, continuous diarrhea for almost 3 weeks, lost 17 lbs in 14 days! It was so bad/went on so long the doctor actually tested me for C. diff, which was negative. Will never, ever take this again!"

For Bacterial Infection "Within a few hours of taking my first dose, I felt like garbage. I was extremely nauseous and out of it, almost dizzy. I have a deadly fear of puking, so I stopped taking it right after the first dose. I would never take this again because of the awful side effects. If you deal with nausea and diarrhea well, then you should stick to it, but personally, I could not put myself through it any longer."

For Sinusitis "I am writing this so anyone going through the same thing is prepared. Started with a cough 03/25. Turned into a sinus infection on 04/06. Started Augmentin (Amox/clav) on 04/07. Felt nausea/dizzy. Didn’t drink enough water, so felt sick - drink 8 glasses or more, no joke, eat a full meal and snack on crackers, etc., thought out the day 4/8 hours after taking. 04/08: Diarrhea, dizzy, foggy brain. Coughing up phlegm for hours after taking, and just horrible dizzy, mentally tough, felt like a heart attack but started to improve after drinking lots of water/crackers and fruits. 04/09: Started kefir/yogurt for breakfast and one shot of kefir mid-day. Helped diarrhea and made tummy better. All night up coughing phlegm and draining nose. Be prepared to be up all night clearing phlegm - SVT attack heart rate 180/230 rubbed neck in a circular motion - coughed-held breath and broke SVT attack. Don’t do decongestion meds, will cause attack with amox/clav 04/10. 04/12: Working just fuzzy brain and anxious, almost better."

For Sinusitis "I suffer from fibromyalgia and arthritis, so am already on a regimen of meds. I developed a severe sinus problem after oral surgery, which opened into my sinus cavities. Nothing, including sinus surgery and carefully chosen antibiotics, kicked it. I lost my sense of smell and taste. My doctor and I decided to try with Augmentin 875-2x/day. I was warned. I take a super probiotic between doses and eat yogurt. I am also eating a good amount of mild, healthy food. Nausea-yes, but no vomiting. Rough diarrhea that is less urgent after 8 days. Much fatigue, but I am used to that. I am halfway through a 21-day prescription and can now taste and smell (that began with a strange tinge that has gone away) and feel less drained from infection. No yeast issues, but being vigilant just the same. I still have 10 days to go and, although used to feeling lousy anyway, I can feel the absence of the rampant sinus issues. No more throat glop or constant heavy nose-blowing."

For Middle Ear Infections "Was prescribed a 10-day course of Augmentin for an ear infection and bronchitis, and by day three had diarrhea, a severe headache, and nausea. Started probiotics, and that helped a little. Now, after being off of it for one day, I have developed a yeast infection. The meds did help the infection, but I felt like I was going to die in the meantime. I will never take this med again."

For Sinusitis "I was given Augmentin one time for an acute sinus infection, and even taking the medication right after I had eaten not only gave me bad diarrhea, but also I was throwing up with it. Our living room wasn't far from our bathroom, and I couldn't even make it to the bathroom. When I did, I was hanging my head, throwing up in the sink and sitting on the toilet with bad diarrhea. I make sure if I get a sinus infection, my doctor gives me Levaquin. Levaquin and Bactrim are the only two antibiotics that will clear up my sinus infections."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I had an external ear infection for almost 18 days. On my first check-up, the doctor prescribed Clindamycin, but that didn't work on me. About 2 weeks later, I still have no signs of healing through Clindamycin. I decided to be checked up again with a different doctor (ENT), and I was diagnosed with Chondritis. He prescribed Augmentin 625 mg, 3x a day, every 8 hrs., and Inoflox, which is also an antibiotic for twice a day. I experienced side effects such as diarrhea that lasted only on the 2nd day. I just realized that this side effect is temporary. Now I am on my 4th day on these antibiotics. I can say that I'm healing and my ear is forming back again to its normal size."

For Sinusitis "I just started Augmentin antibiotic yesterday for a sinus infection and have had 3 doses, but it's the worst antibiotic ever. I have had really bad stomach pain and terrible diarrhea, and today I only took one dose, but it didn't get any better. My dentist prescribed this to treat a so-called sinusitis that was coming on due to issues with my teeth, of which I haven't felt sick at all. So yes, I agree that this is not an antibiotic that should easily be the first choice for everyone, especially for people with sensitive stomach linings like myself. I already have it bad most of the time, so I don't need a medicine to make it worse. I will be calling the dentist tomorrow ASAP for a change. I do not recommend this to anyone, especially those suffering from gastroenteritis. Be careful."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Was prescribed the 875 mg tabs every 12 hours for an infected cyst. Right from the 1st dose, I experienced stomach upset, severe bloating, and diarrhea that burned. Within several days, I also developed a vaginal yeast infection and severe yeast rashes in both armpits. I normally have a cast iron stomach and can take normally any medication without meals and have no problems. The Augmentin caused bad side effects even with meals. Stay away from this drug, it is well known to cause stomach problems."

For Urinary Tract Infection "It is an okay drug for UTI. I was better by day three. I couldn't take the side effects, though. A headache that won't go away and started mild diarrhea. The weird part is the anxiety I had with it. I'm hoping that side effect goes away. I've been taking a probiotic with it and eating when I do take it. It seems to help. I'd say give it a go, see if it works, if it doesn't, then find something else."

For Skin and Structure Infection "My cat bit my ankle in 5 places. Out of hours, the GP gave me Augmentin 500/125mg to take 3 times a day. The first 7 days were fine apart from urinating, diarrhoea had to force-feed myself as no appetite. After 7 days, the nurse came for the 2nd time, one of the bites was fine, the others were raring to go. It gave me cellulitis. My leg was red, black, swollen, plus my neck. So the GP gave me another 7 days' worth. (Had a 2-day break). Bad diarrhoea/accidents, lying in bed being sick, high fever, migraines, feeling so ill. Perspiring, tight chest, palpitations, itchy vagina, became very depressed. I was in a foul mood, memory loss, and acid reflux. I thought I had septicaemia. Therefore, I only took 3 days of the new pack. By Monday, I felt great apart from another bite that came up. The nurse dressed it, and the GP put me on Flucloxacillin 500mg, and so far, so good. Please note these pills are awful. Trying to force food down when you feel so very ill is terrible. Glad it worked for the first week (with slight of the above side effects). I’d rather give birth!!"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "The pharmacist, physician, and nurse told me Augmentin could or may give me diarrhea. So I started eating the BRAT diet, yogurt, and drinking a lot of water. Mild, dull stomach discomfort with mild cramping on days 1 and 2. Day 3 is when diarrhea started. On the 7-day order."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Augmentin is the worst antibiotic I’ve ever used. This is the 3rd time I was prescribed this but decided to give it a good go with prebiotics and probiotics an hour or so after taking this. It didn’t work at all. I was given this for cellulitis at urgent care. I took 3 doses, where I am very bloated, gassy, and have diarrhea for more than 2 days now. I had to get switched to doxycycline, hopefully, this diarrhea goes away soon. I ended up taking two doses of Kaolin-pectate so far. I highly do not recommend this antibiotic."

For Sinusitis "This is the 2nd time I have been Rx'd Augmentin. 2nd time I have been violently ill 2 hrs after taking it. Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pains, and headache. Much to my husband's delight, I also have laryngitis from puking so violently."
