"Been a heavy drinker for over 6 years since a major operation that left me addicted to morphine. Replaced morphine with beer and wine every day. From day one of taking Campral, all my cravings went away. I just don't feel like a drink anymore."

"I was a binge drinker and finished a bottle of Scotch every second night, so when it started to be nearly every night, I went to my doctor and he prescribed me Campral. I never had any cravings and could be around anyone who was drinking, and it wouldn't bother me. It's now been 2 1/2 years since I had a drink! I only took it for 6 months and stopped taking it because the chemist couldn't get it, but I already knew I was fine by then. In Australia, it only cost $6 per script....saved me a fortune."

"Apart from a few years where I switched to speed, I've been a binge drinker for over 20 years. Recently, the binges have been more frequent and lasting longer. After the truly awful withdrawal symptoms subsided, I'd last a few days at most before beer started calling my name again. As the saying goes, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I discovered Campral by accident, and it's as close to a miracle as you can get. I'm amazed. That voice inside my head is finally silent!"

"I have been drinking heavily for 2 years. I'm 39 years old. It's killing me. I have had a past DUI. I broke my leg after falling while drunk. Only day 2 for me. I hope it works. I need to stop, or alcohol will be my demise. I would drink until I blacked out. I pray that it works."

"My partner has been on Campral for the past 2 weeks, 6 tablets a day (doctor's orders) and I don't even recognize him! After 24 years of drinking every day, he hasn't had a drink since he started (that I know of), but he is really trying. I see how hard it is, and I am just seeing it from an outsider's view. I don't feel the pain. But alcohol doesn't just affect the person drinking. Everyone around you is affected, and you don't realize what it does to your family, friends, and the things you have lost! But I would like to wish everyone luck and congratulate all those who haven't had a drink or have seriously cut down! I know it has saved my partner's life."

"I was a very heavy drinker for over 20 years, drinking over a fifth a day. I read a book called The Alcohol and Addiction Cure, given to me by my father. I then started seeing a psychologist for several months before entering detox for 4 days. When I left, they gave me a prescription for Campral. I did not enter a program. I did go to AA meetings quite a bit for about a year and still go occasionally, although I never went through the steps. I took the Campral for about 6 or 7 months. I believe it helped, but I think it was everything combined that helped me. I have been sober since July 11, 2009. Good luck."

"I'd been drinking for years, and it got very heavy in the last two years, and worse so in the last 6 months. I failed with Antabuse, and the doctor switched me just this week to this drug. It's been amazing. I went for a few social beers that were planned, but I couldn't be bothered with drinking. I would normally have drank until I blacked out, but I barely had any urge to drink anything. I had beers in the fridge, and normally I would have drank them also after getting home. I woke up, they were untouched, and I just poured them down the sink. It works!!"

"Drank for thirty years, lost everything, struggled with benders for past 2 years after rehab, no hope. 3 months post Campral. 333mg per day. The only time I think about taking a drink is when I am thinking that I am not thinking of taking a drink. Truly feel it has had an anti-depressant effect for me. Sleep great and the only side effect is an occasional dizziness. Tell everyone you know struggling."

"I fell into drinking heavily after receiving gastric bypass surgery. I guess since I wasn't able to use my drug of choice (food), I began to drink heavily. At first vodka and tequila, then two to three bottles of wine every night after work. I started on Campral 4 months and 3 days ago, and I am back to the old me. I feel great. I still think about it from time to time, but it doesn't last. I have been to parties of all kinds where everyone is drinking, and it does not bother me one bit. I wonder why it's not advertised that much. This medication is GREAT. Thank goodness."

"I am now on day 5 of Acamprosate. The first two days I felt amazing. Especially on the first day, taking the tablets gave me such a hyper rush. Same on the second day, and I had no cravings whatsoever, even sat with my flatmates who were drinking and had no desire to drink at all. I was elated. Until it came to the 3rd day, and I spent half the day itching for a drink until I got home, ate lots of junk food, and had my tablets-then I felt fine again. But on the 4th day, no amount of junk food, squash, or taking my tablets... I itched for a drink up until I fell asleep. Has anyone else experienced this? I notice about 5 minutes after I take the tablet, I feel really high and hyper, it then wears off until I take my next dosage again."

"Thank God for this medication. Campral really does work and I feel like I have my life back. For me, it has completely taken away the urge to drink, which is really saying something for a guy that drank every day for as long as I can remember. It still takes willpower and a commitment to quit, but Campral is the help I desperately needed. If you have a problem, please see your doctor and ask him or her about this."

"I drank for over 30 years until my psychiatrist recommended Campral. What a godsend. I lost my desire for alcohol within a few months but remained on the drug for over a year. I decided on my own to stop the drug and have not drunk any alcohol for well over three years. In my view, this is an amazing drug, and of course, I am grateful beyond words for it."

"My boyfriend is an alcoholic. He has been to treatment multiple times. He has suffered innumerable consequences. For the last year, I have been on the roller coaster of trying to find a way to be understanding and so on. It's been so, so, so hard. For the past month, he has been taking this, and so far, it's been amazing! No drinking. He says his cravings are drastically reduced. His libido has taken a hit, but I'll take that over living with an active alcoholic any day."

"I had been a bad binge drinker for the last nine years, going on benders ranging from 5 days to, at worst, 2 and a half weeks. I could remain abstinent for anything from 1 month to 8 months but always relapsed eventually. After 4 hospital detoxes, countless home ones, and very heavy drinking, I had a warning that my liver had an early stage of cirrhosis, so that scared me enough to try Campral. I take 6 a day and have been on it for a month now, experiencing complete abstinence. Generally, I feel marvelous with no cravings or thoughts. So far, so good. I'm sleeping great and feel calm and more balanced."

"I started taking Campral while in a treatment facility. I was unable to tolerate naltrexone. Although both addicted to alcohol and opioids, the Campral is only used for alcohol dependence, but this drug is nothing but amazing. I have no cravings! I take 666 mg three times per day. Started on 333 mg. I think this drug is best in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy and a program such as AA or NA. You have to want to deal with the addiction. Nothing is a 'magic bullet.' I highly recommend this medication."

"I just want to say thank you to anyone who was involved in making this medicine possible. I started taking this medicine to stop drinking, and it has worked a treat. As an added bonus, it has also allowed me to stop smoking, as drinking was my trigger for having a puff. I have nothing but praise for this wonderful aid. I feel reset, like I am a kid again, and I am 48 years old."

"55-year-old. Drinking heavily for fifteen years. Tried Campral for three months. OK to begin with, but as it built up in my system, it completely numbed all of my senses. I am normally an upbeat, happy person, but it made me feel down all the time, tired, couldn't be bothered doing anything, lost interest in friends and family, memory loss to the point where I'd be having a conversation and couldn't recall words. And probably the most embarrassing symptom was that the muscle relaxant effect made me wet the bed twice, which I have never done before (not alcohol-induced). On researching this, I saw that it is a common side effect but largely goes unreported for obvious reasons. It did, however, reduce my drinking, mainly because I was spaced out and zombified on Campral and didn't need further intoxication."

"I have been drinking heavily (daily) for the past 20 years. When my family gave me the choice to drink and leave or stay home and be sober, I threw in the towel and sought help. My physician has me on 333 mg three times a day, and I am receiving regular counseling from my therapist. The first several days of treatment had my head feel like it was melting (after sobering, which was three days). Since then, no cravings for alcohol. Tried a sip of scotch after the first week and threw the rest of the glass away, it tasted like crap. Been under this treatment for two weeks now, and I am in heaven."

"I've been taking Campral for a few weeks, and I am amazed at the difference in my cravings. I've been a daily drinker for 6-7 years. I've been to inpatient rehab, outpatient, countless AA meetings, and counseling. This has been a miracle of sorts. I'm only a few weeks in, but I'm not white-knuckling it this time. I just don't want to drink because my brain is no longer screaming for one."

"I just started Campral today. My doctor prescribed it, but after a week of waiting for my insurance to cover, I finally called them, and they said they would not cover 'maintenance med.' Two years ago, I put myself in rehab, and they paid $10,000.00, but they won't cover this. I went and got a week's worth, $75.00."

"I just turned 48 and have been drinking for over 35 years. Over the past 30 years, I have drunk every day, probably only going without a nightly drink 10 times per year. I tried Naltrexone twice, the first time it worked, the second time my body didn’t recognize it. 30 days ago, I started taking Campral, 2 tabs 3 times a day. I have now stopped drinking. Amazing drug."

"Up until 6/20/10, I had slammed 12 beers a night for the past 20 years and never managed to abstain for more than about a week during that time. I've been on Campral for three months now and mostly AF. It works if you let it. If you drink over it, it will stop working, and the next few days you will crave. But that said, better a 5-day relapse than a 15-year relapse-and I think Campral has helped make that possible. It's not a magic bullet. It does, however, silence the hamster cage a little bit."

"I was a heavy drinker for 35 years. I relapsed 2 years ago after more than 12 years of sobriety. My doctor gave me Campral. I was amazed, I had no desire for a drink, ZERO desire. I did have severe diarrhea. The drug was doing so well that I tried to tough it out, hoping my body would adjust. It didn't, and reluctantly, I was forced to stop. After 2 weeks without a drink, I started again. Just got Naltrexone today. I hope it works as well without the side effects."

"At the end, I was drinking a fifth of vodka daily, sometimes more. Was pretty excited about the Sinclair Method using Naltrexone, but it didn't work for me as it did for others. Two trips to the psych ed with debilitating depression fueled by alcohol, one inpatient stint and one rehab later, my psychiatrist prescribed Campral. I'm two weeks in and the worst 'craving' was thinking about drinking prior to the holiday weekend. I used my other supports and didn't drink. I also take gabapentin 600 mg three times daily and Zoloft 200 mg nightly to help with anxiety and depression. (This rating would be a 10, but I've had diarrhea for a few days after upping my dose to 666 mg 3x/day.)"
