I pretty much tried other stuff. But I have a very high tolerance to medication. Also some meds will affect me totally opposite than what they intend. As in being more hyper than I am already. I have problems with sleeping, and I get in a very miserable mood gets worse with less sleep. I believe that I need 8 hours of sleep. I feel so much better when I get good sleep.
Is there anything other than Seroquel that would help me to sleep?

I see you have more than enough answers so I don't want to be redundant. I would like to copy one comment that said you need to understand the reason for you insomnia and go from there. It would also help us in our answers to your question to know the source of your sleep problem. Someone mentioned that you can get Alteril on line. I saw Alteril at Walgreens this past summer. I didn't buy it becaused it cost $20 dollars for a months supply and I couldn't afford that. Someone commented that medicaid and medicare won't pay for Ambien. I'm sure she must have meant Ambien CR because Medicaid and Medicare will pay for the generic form of regular Ambien. The generic form is called zolpidem. I'm currently taking Restoril, a benzodiazapine, and it works well for me but benzos effect my short term memory so I use it off and on. I hope you find something to help you sleep because I know how you feel.
When I don't get a good nights sleep it worsens my entire day and makes me feel irritable. Now I understand why babies are so fussy when they need a nap. Take care.
Hi, try ambience 12.2 CR,but with mao meds i do not known. onsult your dc.

I am on Seroquel and it helps me sleep. I just went through ECT with no results. I am going back on EMSAM (MAOI) and I had terrible insomnia. My new Psy suggested going on Chloral Hydrate (Somnote) for the insomnia. It must be potent to deal with the bad insomnia I had. But I have to go through withdrawal from Pristiq and Zoloft before I can return to EMSAM which helped my depression greatly and anxiety. It gave me a sense of wellbeing and energy. Ask your doc about this drug... it is a very old drug. I hope you have sweet dreams if you try this . . . then let me know how it worked for you. I may just ask doc to put me on it now, Friday. If he does I will get back with you. Hope Fully
I have had trouble sleeping for years, my doctor (neurologist) has me taking Trazodone the generic for Desyrel. It works well when then dose is right with no "hang over effect".
Amsel,
Have you tried ambien or rest oral or even Xanax? Seroquel is a very very strong anti-depressant when I took it I was knocked out and when I took ambien I slept walked and ate. All medications effect each of us differently, of course. I have found Xanax to work best, it calms me enough to get semi-natural sleep and releives my anxiety the next day. Have you talked with your doctor about this? Doctors want you to get good sleep to allow less anxiety and depression so do not be afraid to ask for a sleep alternative medication.
Have you tried Trazodone? That and Ambien work for me.
Seroquel it's great for sleep but the hangover... yuck! Antihistamines... don't work long enough and I can get tops 6 hours of sleep. Benzodiazepines, anti anxiolytics or sleeping pills are even worse! The best thing working for me now is trazodone. Once I leveled on it, I get a great 8 hours of sleep and no hangover. Since it is an antidepressant and non narcotic, addiction is not a factor.
I am hoping you find an answer and ..soon! Being tired I find this makes me feel worse and yet..how can I go to sleep ? I tried all the "stuff'..reading , baths etc. . I needed real help. I went on Ambein. and amazingly I took it "when" I needed it --not every night. I am just one of those who does not like taking sleeping pills... but no sleep --is worse on the condition. Now i only need it when I feel really stressed.
Hi, My Dr. added a little more Seroquel (25 mg) & later added Ambien..It works for me. I agree I am no good without 8 hours of sleep. Buttercup383
I will not try to give a doctor advice on what would help you sleep, but a doctor prescribed serequel for me to sleep after a head injury. Not only did it make my emotions a reck but I truly wasnt myself while taking it, also gained about 35 pds. The problem was during the time I took this medication I could not see what my family saw as far as the changes in mood, personality etc. Not until I switched dr and got off the medication. This drug is meant more for manic disfunction syndrome, and other highly chemical and mental disabilities. I am glad that I am off this medication the side effects were not worth the few hours of sleep
Seroquel helps me, but I believe it's more important to have daily light exercise. I walk for at least 15' a day and find that soothing. Try it!
You are so right, I have more excuses for my excuses when I do not get out there & walking, thanks for the reminder..Buttercup 383
Have you tried Trazadone? It's non addictive. I've been using it now for 30 years to sleep with wonderful results.
Well, after gaining a million pounds on seroquel i demanded that we give something else a try. Obesity does wonders if you suffer from depression! My doc put me on doxepin. Its in a liquid form, no side effects, I sleep great and just don't have anything negative to say about it.
Amsel, I have been takig clanozipam for many years and it does me very good. I take 5 to 10 mgs during the day if needed for anxiety. I also take 2 mgs for sleep. You don't wake up drowsey. Good Luck Sacey.
