I pretty much tried other stuff. But I have a very high tolerance to medication. Also some meds will affect me totally opposite than what they intend. As in being more hyper than I am already. I have problems with sleeping, and I get in a very miserable mood gets worse with less sleep. I believe that I need 8 hours of sleep. I feel so much better when I get good sleep.
Is there anything other than Seroquel that would help me to sleep?

I suffer from recurring insomnia. I had insomnia for around three months at a time and the drug paxil was the only medication that brought me out of it.I have tried trazodone, lunesta, temazepam, effexor, and Vistaril none of these would actually calm me enough to go to sleep.I took paxil for 4 days to a week and my mind can relax and I fall asleep and stay asleep at night.I've been on paxil for over 5 years and it has been a miracle medication for me.
when i came off serequil i could not sleep it was rough,so i went back to my dr and he prescribed me elavil.it is a trycyclic antidepressant but man it really does help yo sleep, you should check into it.oh also another antidepressant that is very effective for sleep is remeron.ask your doc about both, one of them will help you.good luck
i take 50 to 100 mg of trazadone and 10 to 15 mg of ativan a night to sleep and like alot of us we need our 8-10 hours of sleep whatever of needs are. god bless our mothers who are taking care of their add and adhd children no one know whats it's truely like unless we have walked in the shoes. all i can say is again god bless them and say a special prayer.
If you haven't been diagnosed as a true amsomniac. Ambien is wonderful. They'll probably start you at 5 mg then move you to more anything more than 20 mg they'll start looking at amsomnia. That's what's happened with me. I liked the ambien because it didn't make me feel groggy or drugged up when I took it I just laid down went to sleep and woke up feeling refreshed not tired not sleepy nothing well rested it was great. Then I was diagnosed with amsomnia so now I'm on a high dose of trazadone. I don't like it because I feel like I loose time and if you don't get at least 8-10 hours you will feel tired and like crap. Good luck talk your doc and see what they say
OTC: sleep aid
Rx: ambien
yes ask yor doctor about elavil i have beeen on it for a month and i sleep good everynight
my problem is not falling asleep, but staying asleep. Does elavil help w that?
Ambien is a good choice for sleep. Ask your doctor for a free sample. It helps you to fall asleep fast and you feel refreshed in the morning.
Ambien makes me feel drugged. I can't take it. I wake up two hrs later, can't get back to sleep, and it makes me feel like I've been hit on the head. Lunesta is the only pill for sleep that helps me fall and stay asleep all night. Its been a lifesaver. I've also taken Ativan and Xanax for anxiety in the past and they helped me fall asleep. But when they wore off I would wake up. Its best NOT to rely on benzo's for sleep though. The sedative/hypnotics are better for short term insomnia.
Personally ambien worked excellent for me but everybody is different. The only problem I had with it was waking up too early in the morning and not being able to get to sleep after that. When that didn't happen I slept great without waking up after a full night and still feeling drugged. The meds are just trial and error until you find the right one. One thing you might want to consider is the problem might be that another med you're taking is making your insomnia worse. I feel for you insomnia sucks when you wake up tired and pissed off it ruins the day. Try getting a steady schedule if you haven't already(I'm guessing you've probably tried lots of this stuff). For me I turn a fan on at night and it relaxes me so I can sleep. I started this one very hot summer using the fan every night so it continued into winter and now I've been doing it for a few years.
Most of the meds I'd recommend have already been said but one other thing that might work would be anti-hypertensive (blood pressure)meds I took it for anxiety and it worked fairly well. For me insomnia and anxiety go hand in hand so anxiety could be the real problem. Good luck with that insomnia is a horrible thing to try to figure out and deal with and I hope you get what you need.
I also have a very high tolerance to medication and I have been on seroquel for about 7 years I added elavil to it at night got off of that and added adivan to it and I sleep wonderfully at night
Benedryl Ambien Lunesta Restaril just a few I have tried I have not slept in 6 years I even bought a sleep number bed. That didn't help either, Good Luck. Have you tried to use your bed for sleeping and sex only. No T.V. no reading keep it dark and noise free. This is what a sleep doctor recomended for me but It didn't work. I can not just lay there after so long the t.v. goes on
I sympathise, but don't see that Seroquel is the answer. I take 800mg Seroquel a day and it doesn't make me sleepy. Hope you find an answer to your problem.
800mg of seroquel? How do you function? And what do you use to sleep?
This observation and opinion is for "sarcosam." compared to the US and to the United Kingdom, the US far surpasses the children taking psychotropic medications; I quite adamantly stand by this declaration. Howevver, I am an advanced registered nurse, with prescriptive authority, specializing in psychiatry, and do not possesss any magical powers to entice "Hansel and Gretel" out of the woods to come take the medications I prescribe, Before any, any type of medication, in any specialty, are given a comprehensive assessment should be completed as the issue or situation may not even necessitate a needless, potentially harmful medication. Further, I bellieve that they are quite overused. I have a profoundly autistic child with a seizure disorder. We went without medications as long as we could, but due to her high risk of brain damage, chose those that would provide her the best convulsive coverage without causing her to glow in the dark.
Yes, there is some cynacism in this paragraph, but please release their are unrealities on each side. Thank you for your time, Respectfully, CLM
ambiean CR has worked wonders for me it helps you fall asleep and stay asleep ive been taking it for 2 years
Yes, valium or xanex work great. Have you tired Ambien???
I completely understand where you are coming from. I too have Insomnia, I take seroquel, but not for sleep because even 400(2/200s)mgs, doesn't touch me. I went to DR. yesterday... for sleep he gave me Elavil. Have you tried that? I got a few hours sleep... it may work.
I use to take Seroquel and Trazodone. For me it was a good combination. Another good note: Stop eating, drinking and watching anything that will keep you excited, after 4:00pm. Avoid caffeine, any stimulants. Milk also helped. Sometimes just going to bed, will put you to sleep. Listening to relaxing and calming music. A relaxing bath is good. Aromatherapy definitely works.
id also suggest ambien
Ambien doesn't touch my insomnia, and my insurance will not cover Ambien CR. The only medication, prescription wise, that does work, and allows me to wake up refreshed and not feeling like I was drugged the night before, is Lunesta, 3mg. It lets me fall asleep quickly, within about 30 minutes, and I sleep between 6-7 hours straight. I'd love to be able to sleep 8 or more hours a night, but I will take those 6-7 hours of usually uninterrupted sleep time. Ambien always made me feel awful the next day. And I never slept straight through the night on Ambien either. I'd fall asleep pretty fast, but sometime between 2-4 hours afterwards, I'd wake up, feeling just awful, and unable to fall back asleep. The only side effect I have had from Lunesta was unpleasant taste in my mouth. And thats one side effect I will take given all the benefit gained from this medication. Good luck!!
They gave me ambien in the hospital after I had my last child because I was NOT getting any rest and I was mean as hell to everyone (he had colic). Anyway, it did work for me... I was out for at least 10 hours. However, unfortunately tyson is correct about the insurance companies... even medicare and medicaid... They usually will only pay for a half a month and leave the rest of the cost to you. Because of its chemistry you cannot take half a tablet. They are not suppose to be altered in anyway because part of the medicine is responsible for prolonged sleep so its sustained action. If you crush or half ... you get all that medicine at once. That not only takes away from the sustained sleep, but give you everything at once which could have bad consequences. I wonder why insurance will only pay for half???
i have insomnia as well ive tried alot of different sleep aides, i have had "hang overs" to alot of them such as Xanax, ativan, seriquil, the one i have tried that works for me is ambien 10 mg. i have three kids so i need to be able to wake in the middle of the night and be aware as well. i have never woken up with that heavy groggy feeling that most give me. so i suggest trying ambien there is also lower doses.. consult your doctor maybe even give it a try... good luck hope you find what is right for you.
there is ambiean cr and im now on trazodone sorry bout the spelling i dont have any side affects from it like waking up grumpy also a natural vit. is 3000 mg of melatonin bought at ur local freds dollar general walmart or walgreens and it is not addictive
