I pretty much tried other stuff. But I have a very high tolerance to medication. Also some meds will affect me totally opposite than what they intend. As in being more hyper than I am already. I have problems with sleeping, and I get in a very miserable mood gets worse with less sleep. I believe that I need 8 hours of sleep. I feel so much better when I get good sleep.
Is there anything other than Seroquel that would help me to sleep?

trazodone or Flexeril are a possibility. Both of them helped me.
I found that HALDOL helped me, plus it helps with my anxiety too. Actually, all of the above!
Unfortunately most people suffer from Insomnia.
We all love a good 7-8 hours straight sleep every night.
Seroquel is mainly used for Schizophrenia.
My brother is Law was on 100mg to treat his Schizophrenia but he gained heaps of weight & made him a zombie.
Thankfully he’s off them now.
I’m amazed how some irresponsible Doctors just handing out Seroquel.
It’s not a drug to mess with plus you build a tolerance over time.
I've been taking it for over 20 years and haven't built up a tolerance to it. I will say though that I have to go to bed as soon as I take it because if I don't, I want to eat. I only take 1/2 of a 25 mg pill.

Hello, from one bipolar to another. I'm really having trouble going to sleep at a "normal" time. I feel a little better at around 10 pm and so I wake up and do something. BUT if I try harder and do what my psychiatrist says to do I can often sleep at around 11 pm. I take 150 mg. trazodone at night, plus one Vicodin, and 25 mg. metoprolol succinate ER. I know I need to start getting ready to sleep at around 8:30 p.m. But here I am writing you at 1:27 a.m. I hope YOU are getting some sleep tonight. And I never feel "restored" even if I do sleep.
Antihistamines, melatonin, exercise, and sun.
This is only a suggestion but I have tried just about everything for sleep, I have problems staying and getting back to sleep, I've found and this is my opinion that trazodone work's the best for me, I've tried risperidone and it quit working after just a few days, but the trazodone I've been taking for quite a while and even though my doctor increased the dosage it works very well, also I take zopidone, it helps me fall asleep and get back to sleep. But something different might be for you, every med work's differently on different people, hope this helps somewhat.
Seroquel helps but I still be tired not refreshed
I have been prescribed Seroquel 300 mg, Ambien CR 12.5 mg, and Restoril 30 mg to be taken at night along with Trileptal 600 mg also at night. I have been on this combination for 8 years. The weirdest thing is that I will take my medications at 7 pm but don't get sleepy until after 11 pm. I'm stable and functioning well, blood work is good. I did gain weight, went from 115 lbs to 212 lbs. In December I changed my diet, cut out sugar and and began exercising. Now I'm at 170 lbs and in the BMI green zone for a 6'2" male. I tried others at the begging an hard some terrible side effects, it just takes time and a good Dr. to find the right regiment. I also take Ativan 0.5 mg tabs 3 times a day, but I am now to the point I use them only when I feel anxious. Hope this helps!
Remeron. I've been taking it for 15 years & it still knocks me out. I also need 8 hours of sleep, even 7 hours isn't good enough. Good luck.
I tried Remeron once when I was in the hospital. I gained 10 lbs in one week. Not a good drug for me.

I also gained 20 pounds real quick. Could not stop eating (mostly cravings for meat). I could not get rid of that weight until something happened in my life that made me so depressed I pretty much stopped eating. So I lost 30 pounds within 6 months. That was the summer of 2015, still taking remeron and haven't gained one pound back. Go figure!
Hi, the best med I ever took that helped me sleep was 150 mgs of amitriptyline. I had taken it most of my adult life. But at about 46 years old my pcp asked my psychiatrist to take me off of it because it was effecting my heart beats. I struggle with sleep every night now. I tried sereaquil and gained 45 pounds in four months. I had worked hard I was 300 pounds and got down to 172. And now I can't get rid of this sereaquil fat. It was very upsetting to gain so much weight back. Now I take clonazepam with temezapam and I'm lucky to get any sleep. Insomnia is such a terrible thing. Sorry I am of little help, yet maybe you can take amitriptyline. Talk to your doctor and best of luck. Let us know if you find anything that works, it would help others. Have a great night.
You could try trazodone it seems to work very well and has a good effect on clients and people who have tried it. Suggested that you start a lower dose till u see how it effects u and to lower chances of drowsiness in the mornings. When I was younger I to took it for sleep night terrors and sleep disorders and was on 250mg due to high tolerance to medications but lowered it due to drowsiness.
I'm new to the group but I saw this and I've tried it all until my doctor gave me a new drug out there called saphris you take it @ night just before bed its been a month now and I must say it works well but taste nasty..
I also have a high tolerance to meds. and sometimes they effect me opposite even Tylenol PM I can take that during the day for headaches or migraines but it never makes me sleepy. I've tried Elavil all of the mg. and it takes about two hours for the highest mg. to take effect, I've also tried several others the one that helps me go to sleep faster is ambien and the one that helps with staying asleep is a very new medication called Silenor BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
I took geodon for my bipolar but I went off it because it was putting me in a really deep sleep at night. My husband and kids couldn't wake me up.
Chances are since you are bipolar, I have found for me that sleeping pills don't work. I need to use the anti-psychotic meds like seroquel to get to sleep. The one that works for me is Geodon. I take 80 mg in the morning and then at dinner so I can get to sleep. I was always up late anyway. But it does get me to sleep. If I did not take it, I would stay awake for days. The thing I like about Geodon, is that it does not help you put on weight like the others. It is helping me lose weight right now. Good luck with your search.
