I pretty much tried other stuff. But I have a very high tolerance to medication. Also some meds will affect me totally opposite than what they intend. As in being more hyper than I am already. I have problems with sleeping, and I get in a very miserable mood gets worse with less sleep. I believe that I need 8 hours of sleep. I feel so much better when I get good sleep.
Is there anything other than Seroquel that would help me to sleep?

After having a bad reaction to seriquel i was placed on ambien and it has done wonders. no side affects and it dose not hang on like some meds do. i get up at 5 with no med hang over. i would ask about it. it that is not good enough then there is another sleep med called lunesta and it works well, excepted some people (very few) have reported a side effect of sleep walking. not many that i have heard about but if it run it your family yuou should still be awere. see your dr though soon sleep is very importat. Hope it helps!
Rozerem i take it it works for me and before Rozerem try meleatoin if meleatoin does not work ask you dr for Rozerem
dear amsel10... i know this is 4 years later but i feel compeeled to tell you my story. i, too, have an extraordinary high tolerance to most drugs, but i also wiegh over 300 lbs. (yes, it does make a difference)..right now i am taking 1200mg of seroqel a night.
at first she had me taking all 3 pills (400mg a piece) but i would only sleep 3-4 hours a night if even that..after talking to her again, we decided that i would take 2 at bedtime and then when i woke up at 1 or 2am, i would take the third..this worked real well the first night, i was late taking my night meds, so i didn't take it until11:30pm, i slept until 2am, woke up, raided the fridge and took my other one, was back asleep in 1/2 an hour and slept untol 9am!!! that's the most sleep i have had in years!! the next night, i took it at my regular time, 8:45pm, went to bed around 9:30pm, woke up at 1am, ate something and then took my other pill, but this time i only slept until 3:30am..not a happy camper, i have been tired all day but i had a med change 3 days ago, she added viibryd to my seroquel, abilify and depakote..i don't know what is happening or to which medicine is causing this. i have decided to take the seroquel around 11pm and then try tosleep as long as i can... i should mention that i have sleep apnea, i have a bi-pap, but don't use it because i end up ripping it off my face no matter what kind of mask i use..i also use oxygen when i am at home due to copd..it helps a little bit. i quit smoking 2 years ago and my copd is much, much better..i porbably don't reallly need the o2 as much as i use it..sorry to ramble, i have tried every type of sleep aide that exists, i think..when i was taking clonapin and haldol, etc, i slept all day and all night..i was a zombie when awake..that isn't a life, i would go up and down in my moods and nothing i did or had done helped. but now that i have had a dr. change (she is a family dr.), she saw how miserable i was and together we tried different and various meds to work on all my problems... i have been relatively stable forthe past 4 years mood wise, but i sure would like some sleep..eight hours if you please..heck, i will even take 6!!! i wishyouall the luck in the world and hope that by now you have figured your insomnia out. take good care...

Yes, I have used immovane for over 12 years when I was originally diagnosed with bipolar 2. I have tried seroquel but did not care for the side effects. Apart from my severe depressive episodes (approx. 4), immovane has worked well. I was able to wean down and off and sleep on my own for a while until things got bad again. Dependent on where I am at in the illness cycle I take .5 to 2 tabs. My doctors did not want me to use melatonin. I was told if there were any side effects at any point, they would not be able to determine if it was from the melatonin or my drug regimen. I experienced no weight gain or increase in appetite. They are addictive. My doctors have assured me it is safe to take long term. Hope this helps.
Hello Amsel. Mirtazepine/Remeron works well. Major complaint is increase in weight. Much as Seroquel does as well. Regards pledge
while i was taking seroquel and found myself not sleeping my doctor perscribed me trazodone to help sleep and it worked great. the may have to increase dosage of trazodone as your body gets use to it but its worth it!
Oh boy, what a question that I can relate to. I've struggle with getting enough sleep for well over a year+. Stuff like seroquel, trazodone all zonked me out the following day. This is just my opinion, but why take something that causes more side effects? That's the reason I say just taper off of whatever you are on and don't take anything except maybe Melatonin. If the Melatonin doesn't work, drop that too. I used Benadryl, then tapered off of that before going cold turkey off the sleep-aids.
I take Hydroxyzine which is actually for anxiety (and itching). The other sleep meds didn't work for me and then I was left feeling drowsy the next day. This calmed my mind enough that I fell asleep naturally! genious!
I notice someone recommended benedryl-type medication -- antihistamines. They have the opposite effect on me -- they wire me. I am bipolar and I think that's why. My husband has ADHD and antihistamines have no effect on him either way.
Hello
And the answer is yes!!
I am in my 70's and had not been sleeping well for quite awhile!
My friend Roger recommended something and it also mitigates anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, Memory problems (really) libido, and it actually
does give you an uplift to your spirit during the day and it is ALL natural.
NO side effects other than you are happy, not depressed, and can actually
sleep well. At night I now sleep like a baby as they say sometimes.
I have not slept so well in 20 years!!

Seroquel had the opposite effect on me-it made my restless legs-like a flapping fish on the shoreline.
I haven't read all 72 answers, so I might not be saying anything new.
I have found Atarax to be helpful for me.
Benydryl and its not addicting.
I have never heard of being given Seroquel for sleep. To me that is very unusual. I have Bipolar Disorder and I take it for that, I guess I just associate it with that condition. You have been given a lot of good suggestions. I am sorry you don't sleep well, Neither do I. I even take a sleeping pill and I still don't sleep right. I have Restless Leg Syndrome.
My question to you is have you ever had sleep studies done to see if you have a sleep disorder. Your restlessness could be attributed to Restless Leg Syndrome. You could also have an Apnea and that is why you don't sleep well.
Not breathing right at night can play havoc when you are trying to sleep and you don't even know it. Do you snore? I suggest you seek out a Neurologist and have a sleep study done.
I take Lunesta and/or Temazepam to help me sleep. Ambien makes me sleep walk. Lunesta works well without any side effects. The other one is not covered by my insurance.
I hope this information helps you somewhat and that you feel better soon.

I see you have more than enough answers so I don't want to be redundant. I would like to copy one comment that said you need to understand the reason for you insomnia and go from there. It would also help us in our answers to your question to know the source of your sleep problem. Someone mentioned that you can get Alteril on line. I saw Alteril at Walgreens this past summer. I didn't buy it becaused it cost $20 dollars for a months supply and I couldn't afford that. Someone commented that medicaid and medicare won't pay for Ambien. I'm sure she must have meant Ambien CR because Medicaid and Medicare will pay for the generic form of regular Ambien. The generic form is called zolpidem. I'm currently taking Restoril, a benzodiazapine, and it works well for me but benzos effect my short term memory so I use it off and on. I hope you find something to help you sleep because I know how you feel.
When I don't get a good nights sleep it worsens my entire day and makes me feel irritable. Now I understand why babies are so fussy when they need a nap. Take care.
