Official Answer by Drugs.com 5 Jul 2017

Odactra (house dust mite allergen extract) is a tablet that is given sublingually (placed under the tongue to dissolve) once-a-day, year-round. The tablet dissolves within 10 seconds. Patients should avoid swallowing for at least 1 minute, and avoid food or beverages for 5 minutes after each dose. The first dose is taken under the supervision of a health care professional due to the possibility of severe allergic reactions.

Odactra is an immunotherapy that treats allergies to dust mites. House dust mite allergies are a reaction to very small bugs found in house dust. Often, dusts mites can be found in bedding, furniture and carpet. Symptoms exhibited by those with house dust mite allergies include a cough, runny nose, nasal itch and congestion, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes.
