How is the Aristada Injection Given?

Official Answer by Drugs.com 9 Feb 2016

Aristada is given as an intramuscular injection into the muscle of your upper arm or buttock. It is given once a month or every six weeks by your healthcare provider.

If you've never received any form of aripiprazole (the generic name) you doctor may first start you on an oral dose of aripiprazole (Abilify) for up to 2 weeks to make sure you tolerate it well.

Your doctor then will continue the oral dose of aripiprazole while your blood levels rise from the injectable form and Aristada takes effect.
