This treatment applies to the following species:Non-antibiotic
Dry Cow Intramammary Teat Sealant.
OptiShield™ is 4g of an off-white, antibiotic free, sterile paste containing 65% bismuth subnitrate in a mineral oil base. OptiShield™ is in ready-to-use syringes and is administered in the teat canal at dry-off, after the last milking, in the prevention of new intramammary cases.

Clean and disinfect the teat end with the alcohol wipes provided and allow to air dry. Remove the cap of one OptiShield™ syringe, squeeze teat canal at the base of the udder, insert the tip of the OptiShield™ syringe and depress the plunger until the teat canal is full. Repeat the same procedure for remaining teats using a new syringe for each teat. Do not massage teats or udder following the administration of OptiShield™.
Clean and disinfect one teat, gently squeeze top of teat canal at base of udder and administer one syringe into bottom of teat canal. Repeat for the other three teats. Each syringe contains 4g of sterile intramammary sealant containing 65% bismuth subnitrate in a mineral oil base.
REMOVAL: OptiShield™ is removed by thoroughly hand-stripping each teat 10 to 15 times prior to milking fresh cow. Do not use milking machine action to remove OptiShield™. Milk fresh cows into a bucket for a minimum of three milkings, if possible.
WITHDRAWAL INFORMATION: For use in dry dairy cows and replacement dairy heifers only. When used alone meat and milk withdrawal period is zero days. If used in combination with an antibiotic infusion, the withdrawal periods for meat and milk for the antibiotic should be observed.
