Salmonella Choleraesuis Vaccine

Avirulent Live Culture

This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy swine 3 - 4 weeks of age or older against Salmonella choleraesuis and Salmonella typhimurium. Duration of immunity has not been established. For more information regarding efficacy and safety data, go to productdata.aphis.usda.gov.

This product has been shown to be effective against shedding caused by Salmonella typhimurium.

WATER ADMINISTRATION: This product was developed to be used exclusively by the oral route of administration. Aseptically rehydrate the contents of the freeze- dried vial with accompanying vial of diluent. Mix reconstituted vial well. Add to the water delivery system using the appropriate ratio to achieve the delivery of the appropriate vaccine dose per pig. Water may be withheld for 1-2 hours before vaccination. Occasional remixing of the vaccine solution 2 to 3 times during the vaccination procedure aids in assuring a uniform dose for all pigs.

WATER DELIVERY OF VACCINE:

● Do not open or mix Argus® SC/ST until ready to vaccinate.

● Do not use antibiotics, sulfonamides or other medications in feed or drinking water for 3 days before and 3 days after vaccination.

● Remove all sanitizers and disinfectants from drinking water before initiating oral vaccination. To do this, flush watering system with non-chlorinated/non-treated clean water.

● Water may be withheld for one to two (1-2) hours before vaccination.

Rehydrate each 100 dose vial of Argus SC/ST with accompanying 30 mL BluShadow™ diluent.

● Set proportioner to deliver 30 mL (1 oz) of hydrated Argus SC/ST per 3.75 liters (1 US gallon) of water.

● Make a dilution, according to Table 1, using a clean container with clean non-treated water.

● If available, use the actual water consumption of pigs to vaccinate to determine the volume of water needed for vaccination.

● Insert proportioner hose into the stock solution with the Argus SC/ST and start water flow until all vaccine solution has been consumed. Flush the vaccine container with clean non-treated water. Pigs should consume vaccine within 4-6 hours after its rehydration.

● Once the Argus SC/ST has been dispensed and the proportioner has delivered all fluids, return to non-treated water flow.

1Calculations are based on an average daily water consumption of 15% of body weight. Young animals and lactating sows may consume up to 20% of body weight.

Example: For vaccination of 100 pigs, average weight 12 kg (25 lbs): Identify the row for 12 kg (25 lb) pigs and then select the average water consumption values for 12 kg pigs (28.5 liters per 100 pigs per 4 hours) or 25 lb pigs (7.5 US gallons per 100 pigs per 4 hours). Rehydrate Argus SC/ST with the accompanying diluent. Add the rehydrated Argus SC/ST to enough clean water (approximately 195 mL [6.5 oz]) to make 225 mL (7.5 ounces) of final stock solution. Deliver the stock solution at the rate of 30 mL (1 oz) per 3.75 liters (1 US gallon). If you require additional assistance please call 1 866 683-7838.

Precautions
