3 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- aminophylline
- Rebetron (interferon alfa-2b / ribavirin)
Interactions between your drugs
aminophylline interferon alfa-2b
Applies to: aminophylline, Rebetron (interferon alfa-2b / ribavirin)
Treatment with medications like interferon alfa-2b may increase the blood levels of aminophylline, which can lead to potentially serious and life-threatening side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you develop nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, tremor, confusion, restlessness, insomnia, seizures, heart palpitations, and/or irregular heartbeat, as these may be signs and symptoms of excessive aminophylline levels. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
ribavirin food
Applies to: Rebetron (interferon alfa-2b / ribavirin)
Food can enhance the levels of ribavirin in your body. Ribavirin should be taken with food or just after eating. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not take it on an empty stomach. Swallow the tablet or capsule whole.
aminophylline food
Applies to: aminophylline
Both aminophylline and caffeine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects. Talk to your doctor before using these medications, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart disease. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
