Usual Adult Dose for Acne

Weight 33 to 54 kg: 60 mg orally once a day
Weight 55 to 84 kg: 100 mg orally once a day
Weight 85 to 136 kg: 150 mg orally once a day

Use: For the treatment of inflammatory lesions of nonnodular moderate to severe acne vulgaris

Precautions

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Shown hypersensitivity to any of the tetracyclines

Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 9 years; tetracycline-class antibiotics are not recommended for use in patients younger than 8 years (due to potential for tooth discoloration).

Administration advice:

  • Administer with or without food.
  • Administer with plenty of fluid to reduce risk of esophageal irritation and ulceration.

Storage requirements:
  • Store at 20C to 25C (68F to 77F); excursions permitted to 15C to 30C (59F to 86F).
  • Protect from moisture and excessive heat.

General:
  • If no improvement observed after 12 weeks, treatment with this drug should be reassessed.
  • Efficacy beyond 12 weeks and safety beyond 12 months have not been established.
  • This drug has not been evaluated in the treatment of infections.
  • To reduce the development of drug-resistant organisms and maintain efficacy of other antibacterial agents, this drug should be used only as indicated.

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Avoid missing doses and complete the entire course of therapy.
  • If watery or bloody stools develop, seek medical attention.
  • If headache or blurred vision occur, seek medical attention.
  • This drug may cause CNS symptoms; ability to drive vehicles or operate hazardous machinery may be affected; seek medical assistance for persistent CNS symptoms.
  • Minimize or avoid exposure to natural or artificial sunlight during therapy; if you must be outdoors while using this drug, wear loose-fitting clothes that protect skin from sun exposure and discuss other sun protection methods with physician.
