For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Took tamsulosin for 2 years. Initially paid little attention to side effects since they are published as normal. In hindsight, my symptoms got worse because of it. Bouts of minor incontinence (I believe it ‘relaxed’ the bladder too much), tiredness even upon waking and never feeling rested, sleeplessness, PM chills (more like freezing in the middle of the night), rashes, gum sensitivity, hoarseness. I cold turkey stopped taking it. Best move I’ve made in a while! Knock on wood, all symptoms have eased or disappeared. I actually believe ‘my condition’ has improved!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Beware, Contiflo XL, made by Ranbaxy Ltd, is labeled to be a generic tamsulosin. I feel like this drug probably excludes the good stuff so the owners of Ranbaxy make more money. I had side effects of depression, exhaustion, stomach problems that are horrible. Flomax was a much better product, but I can't seem to get it anymore. NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence - UK), like the FDA in America, are supposed to police the quality of drugs released to the unwary public, but they are not doing their job!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I took generic doxazosin for about 1 month. It was somewhat effective, but really made me tired. I started at 4 mg then went to 6 mg for better efficiency, but just couldn't function well. So I switched to tamsulosin. These are 0.4 mg capsules (instead of tablets like the doxazosin), so I can't really up it to 0.6 mg easily. I am supplementing this medication with saw palmetto, stinging nettles, pumpkin seed, pygeum bark, and Korean ginseng (combined in a single pill), plus 2000 mg of flaxseed oil. This is definitely much better than nothing, I don't get near as tired as I did on doxazosin. Plus, I no longer have the need for an occasional Viagra."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I am 58 years old and was having 4 trips to the bathroom each night and dribbling starts and stops and often had to go again right away. I started 0.4 mg a week ago. It seems to be working. So far, the sex has still been OK, but I do feel more lethargic and have noticed a slight stuffiness in my nose and a scratchy throat. But I think it is OK, and I am OK with the side effects so far because now I can just pee when I need to."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Had open-heart surgery several weeks ago and had a urinary catheter for the first time ever. When difficulty urinating started, Flomax was prescribed. I had a number of terrible side effects I couldn't relate to the drug until we realized it was the only Rx that had changed post-surgery. I developed a neurological issue where the floor seemed to move when I walked, so I bounced from wall to wall and could only safely walk with a walker. On the second day this issue started, the sensation never eased up, sending me back to the ER with dizziness and vomiting, and for the next 5 days they couldn't find anything wrong. Other symptoms included terrible constipation, gasping for air when sleeping, even when sleeping propped up in a hospital bed. The exhaustion others mention in reviews was severe as well. I was on the medicine a couple of days, went home after surgery, took a day or two to get back on the medicine, then was in the ER 3 days after going home."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "7 weeks into a 9-week treatment of proton radiation/prostate cancer. I started taking Flomax for weak stream (mornings), urgency, and occasional burning. 2 weeks into taking the medication, burning was relieved to some degree, much less urgency, and stream has improved a bit. But it's been an exchange of one set of side effects for another. Now, less urgency, but more frequency, up more at night, and multiple trips to the bathroom to pee in the morning (days are fine). Better stream, but also leakage and tiredness. I feel like you rob Paul to pay Peter with this drug. Can't wait to get off it (Dr. has asked me to stay on it for a bit, until I'm about 2 weeks past my last radiation treatment. I have about 10 days to go)."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Yes, there are side effects. The first couple of doses caused severe nausea (get Zofran from the doctor and take with Flomax for about 5 days), also tiredness and lightheadedness. I found improvement with taking the medication about an hour before bedtime. Symptoms were much more tolerable. I think the only real sexual side effect was reduced erection. If you can't pee, and I couldn't due to taking testosterone, which caused BPH. I took saw palmetto successfully for 3 years, then had to stop for surgery. Saw palmetto did not work once I resumed."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "My doctor put me on Flomax for BPH. I have permanent vertigo also. Since I started taking Flomax, I have experienced fatigue, tiredness, low energy, and basically I feel terrible. Feeling this way has had a negative effect on my vertigo. It has made it worse. My doctor is going to put me on another med. The Flomax was starting to work on my BPH."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "The urine flow improved slightly, but the worst thing that occurred was my heart racing and blood pressure rise after having a hot shower at bedtime. Usually, my BP is around 120/80, pulse 55. When this occurs, it was 158/103, pulse 146. Also, I get a fluttering sensation in my heartbeat, which is irregular. This does not happen every night, but it has only occurred since taking tamsulosin for the last 2 months, also feeling tired and lethargic."
