Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Flomax (Tamsulosin hydrochloride) helped me to urinate normally. It did make me feel very tired and weak. I was taking one 0.4 mg a day. I started taking it with breakfast, but switched to taking it after dinner. That helped with most of the tiredness."

Tamsulosin for Urinary Tract Stones "I am a 42-year-old woman. I was prescribed Flomax for kidney stones. I have been on this for almost 2 weeks, but I just can't take the side effects anymore. My head and neck hurt so bad, and it will not go away no matter what I do. I feel dizzy, weak, and very 'winded', it seems hard to catch my breath. I feel in a catch-22 because it helps the urine flow, but I just feel so awful otherwise... ???"

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have been taking Flomax for a month for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. I had been getting up to urinate 2 or 3 times a night, suffering from severe pain during urination. Since starting Flomax, I have found myself dizzy if getting up quickly, blurred vision, decreased sex drive with abnormal ejaculate. I have lower back pain. I feel weaker and tired all the time. On the upside, I can go all night with no need to get up to urinate, and the pain while urinating is 50 percent less."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I have been using Flomax (0.4 mg 1/day) for approximately 2 weeks, with a great improvement after the 2nd pill. My problem with urination wasn't too bad to begin with - slow start, weak stream, start/stop, up 2-3 times per night -- just inconvenient. I have experienced side effects with Flomax: get very dizzy when first standing up within 3-4 hours after taking the pill (feels like I'm going to pass out), so I take it at night; noticeable muscle weakness, but not severe. Also, sex is affected, weak orgasm. I tried Saw Palmetto (2,000 mg/day)--seemed to help some, but not very much."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Flomax gave me serious side effects, including the following: toothache, gum infection, sinus infection, cough, chest pain, vision problem, muscle ache, muscle weakness, dizziness, premature ejaculation, inability to hold an erection for sex, lack of orgasm after painful ejaculation."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I don't know if this medicine would have worked or not because after three days, I was so weak and dizzy from low blood pressure that I stopped taking it. Better to get up 1-2 times a night to pee than pass out from walking across the house. If you have low-to-normal blood pressure, watch out. Also tried doxazosin/Cardura before this with similar results."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was prescribed Flomax due to kidney stones. Other than the pain, I felt fine, then started taking this drug. Long story short, I hate it. I took it for about a week. I suppose it might have helped remove the stone, but I felt like crap. Insomnia, weakness, coughing, hiccuping constantly. Loss of appetite, foods just didn't appeal at all, muscle pain, diarrhea. Thursday was my last pain, today is Monday. I stopped taking them last Saturday. I could not take another one. How anyone can be on these for weeks and months is beyond me."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I was put on tamsulosin after being diagnosed with kidney stones. It worked with getting rid of the kidney stones but left me with horrible side effects after stopping the pill, such as dizziness, muscle weakness, weakness, lightheadedness, chest pain, chest tightness, puffy red irritated eyes, side pain, lower back pain, insomnia, vertigo, abnormal heart rhythm, heart palpitations, sensation of spinning, fast pounding heart, difficult breathing, faintness, muscle and joint pain. I am a 21-year-old female. Yeah, trust me, I can barely walk right now out of fear of fainting. Use this medication with extreme caution!"

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "First dose gave me increased flow and great relief from that obnoxious 'never quite empty' feeling and frequency, urgency, and dribbling that I had lived with for the past 5 years or so. I just hope I can keep taking it, as I am experiencing side effects, including feeling very lightheaded - similar to being over the legal limit on alcohol! I have also had muscle weakness and a very lethargic feeling. Had some nausea, but I am not sure if that was from the medicine or from my diverticulitis. Interesting that the description says it is intended to relax the muscles of the bladder neck and prostate. I also gained about an inch when flaccid, and 'the boys' seem to be hanging lower, too. Time will tell if I can keep taking this."

For Urinary Tract Stones "Terrible drug. Took Tamsulosin CR for 7 days for possible kidney stones. The side effects are beyond belief. Severe dizziness, muscle weakness, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, insomnia, fatigue, and horrific back pain. Not exaggerating! 30 days off, and the effects still persist. Dizziness has improved a little, but back pain, muscle weakness, and stomach upset remain. There are documented cataract surgery complications if you have taken this pill. Can be serious changes to your iris (Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome). I have no idea how long until the effects wear off. Do your research."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "My doctor started me on tamsulosin one week ago. Some improvement after 2 or 3 days, but I am experiencing side effects. The first is about sex life as I have no ejaculation (later I found that it is actually a 'retrograde ejaculation'). This is a very uncomfortable feeling, as you feel that sperm remains somewhere inside you (later I found by reading that it goes in the bladder). The second side effect is feeling a bit weak and tired all day long. I do not think I can endure this drug for the rest of my life, therefore I will soon see my doctor for other alternatives, hoping they exist."

For Urinary Frequency "24-year-old, male, UK. Normally, I would go every hour, even when drinking very small amounts of water or drinks. I took this medication for only two weeks. I noticed right away I would go less often to the toilet, and it was much easier to dispense the urine. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking this as the medication's side effects outweighed the benefits. I found that I would have incredibly intense mood swings, aggression, feel clumsy and dizzy all the time, blurry vision, memory problems or mind blanks, runny nose, weakness, tiredness. I am now trying Betmiga. Let's see."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I had a very bad neurological reaction to Flomax that I want to report. It was prescribed to help me start urinating when I had long delays. I have limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and am a kidney transplant recipient. Male, age 71. I took the drug for only four days. In that time, I lost significant leg function, had trouble focusing my eyes, had general weakness, had increased hand tremors, gained 2.5 lbs, generally felt fuzzy, and had a sharp reduction in blood pressure. Today is the third day since I stopped, and all of the listed effects are gone or have been reduced. I have lost 1.6 of the 2.5 lbs. Most of these effects are not listed in the info on Flomax. The drug can have serious nerve and muscle side effects to someone already compromised."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Was taking tamsulosin to improve urine flow. The drug does improve the flow, and I was getting up fewer times at night. Sadly, the side effects became too much to bear. I had excessive sweating, a completely stuffed-up nose, weakness, a rapid heartbeat for no reason, and general fatigue. The drug also made me breathe heavy and rapidly, and I had a hard time catching my breath. I am going to stop tamsulosin and try afluzosin."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I was diagnosed with kidney stones, not told the size of them, but tamsulosin helped me pass the stones in like less than a week or so, and drinking lots of water and apple cider vinegar/lemon juice helped too. There were a lot of nasty side effects such as heart palpitations that don't stop, even while resting, muscle weakness, severe dizziness, weakness, memory problems, chest pains, flank pain, lower back pain. The list goes on. I am not taking anymore because of the side effects. I'm just happy it helped with the stones. I am also a 21-year-old female."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I wasn't sure how to rate this drug, since there were pros and cons. I took it just one night because the next morning, for hours, I was greatly dizzy, weak, shaky, and my heart was pounding rapidly, even when resting. My flank pain was much better that day, though. However, I will not be taking it again because of the side effects."

For Urinary Tract Stones "I was given this medication along with an antibiotic to treat a UTI caused by a kidney stone. I experienced a lot of muscle weakness and fatigue and missed work because of it. I won't finish this medication. I also experienced some dizziness and what felt like heart palpitations. I only took it once."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Been using Flomax for several years. I’m 70. My U Dr told me to stop taking Flomax four to six weeks before my next appt. To test/measure the results of the long-term use of it. Nine months ago, he started me on Finasteride 5 mg. Since stopping Flomax cold turkey, I’m very weak, stuffy nose, back pain. Can’t urinate completely, pee runs out several seconds later. I end up standing there waiting, and several streams expel in two or three intervals. Night sweats. Face flushing during the day."
