For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "This drug medicine works well for me. I am 57 and have used it for about two years. The worst symptom is as listed in the Professional Section on this website: abnormal ejaculation includes ejaculation failure, ejaculation disorder, retrograde ejaculation, and ejaculation decrease. In controlled studies, abnormal ejaculation was associated with the use of tamsulosin and was dose-related. Though there is no change in the pleasure, this side effect is annoying."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "My doctor started me on tamsulosin one week ago. Some improvement after 2 or 3 days, but I am experiencing side effects. The first is about sex life as I have no ejaculation (later I found that it is actually a 'retrograde ejaculation'). This is a very uncomfortable feeling, as you feel that sperm remains somewhere inside you (later I found by reading that it goes in the bladder). The second side effect is feeling a bit weak and tired all day long. I do not think I can endure this drug for the rest of my life, therefore I will soon see my doctor for other alternatives, hoping they exist."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was put on Tamsulosin in May 2024 following 8 weeks of continuous urine infections, horrible pain when urinating with great difficulty and getting up 5 times at night, and I’m not even 60. Tamsulosin was effective immediately, no more urine infections, much improved urine flow, no more pain, and only getting up once a night. I took it with breakfast. Initial side effects were manageable, although I had an awful blocked stuffy nose and unfortunately retrograde ejaculation. I am sexually active, and the retrograde ejaculation was a deal breaker for me. My doctor switched me to slow-release Alfuzosin, which I take at night, and my ejaculation has been restored, and I have the other same benefits Tamsulosin had."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I am 70 and started taking tamsulosin with finasteride over two years ago. I got relief from urinary retention and frequent urination within a few days. I also experienced retrograde ejaculation and very soft erections initially. In the last seven months, I have noticed harder erections and the retrograde ejaculation is 90% gone. I am experiencing a very strong libido every 2-3 days; the sensation to the penis is very heightened and sex is very pleasurable once again. My recent PSA was 1.8 versus 4.0 two years ago."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Been on this for some time on and off for chronic prostatitis. Stops me getting up 3 plus times a night to once a night, but since taking it, I have had nothing but problems with severe lower back pain, dry ejaculations, headaches, and fatigue. Need to see if there may be an alternative."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Initially, the drug tamsulosin was a godsend for BPD. Relieved my symptoms immediately. But the side effects are numerous: lightheaded, dizzy, tired, and lethargic. Sometimes, I am nauseated in the mornings. Retrograde ejaculation occurs, but not often - it seems I can control that issue. Generally, I feel pretty miserable most days. I also have congestion in my sinuses that also affects my ears. So, I will discuss this with my urologist and try to arrange for a button TURP. I am on no other meds, don't have BP issues - I felt very healthy until this regimen began."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Users have reported ejaculation problems when using tamsulosin. A 2007 study suggests that the problem is not retro ejaculation but an ejaculation problem, which tamsulosin can cause. The study says alfuzosin does not cause this side effect. I will be switching after I use up my tamsulosin."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "To me, the benefits definitely do not outweigh the side effects! I started taking tamsulosin in the fall of 2017 and continued until March of 2018. During that time, I experienced constant sneezing and other flu-like symptoms; headaches that I never had before; retrograde ejaculation, likewise something new; back pain and rhinitis. I unilaterally decided to taper off the drug and live with going to the bathroom 3 or 4 times per night! Still have the symptoms to varying degrees; however, it has only been about a month since I quit the drug."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was taking Flomax for about 8 years. I was told I had an enlarged prostate, but I had no problem peeing or any other symptoms. Since I started taking it, I had back pain 24/7, no ejaculation, feeling sleepy all the time, dizziness. I stopped taking Flomax about 45 days ago. I gradually weaned myself off them. Within a few days after stopping Flomax, my back pain is pretty much gone. I have pain if I try to overdo it. I’m 70! So naturally, I can’t do the things I could when I was 30, but overall, I feel much better. I have more energy, I don’t need an afternoon nap anymore, I actually feel like I’m 30. Anyone who is considering stopping Flomax, I would do it slowly. So far, so good. I still get up to pee a couple of times a night, but I think that’s because my wife is always making soup, and I generally wake around 2 a.m. to use the bathroom, but I’ve never had a problem with slow stream! Actually, quite the opposite."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "This medicine made my going to the bathroom less frequent, and it improved my dripping issues when I felt done but was not empty. I was concerned about the ejaculation issues, which do occur, but there is a positive effect. If you don’t take it every day and lay off it a day or two before you know you are going to have sex, it can actually increase your ejaculation level and length to a new heightened level. I was surprised when the ejaculations lasted for 10-15 seconds at full sensitivity. It more than made up for the few weak ones. Who knows, maybe I am just lucky, but at 57, I am having some out-of-this-world releases. Don’t get me wrong, I still get the occasional poof and nothing, but holding off for a day or two is my secret to happiness and still being able to pee. My wife now jokes that I am done, so stop acting like you're still going. But I really am, and I think she is a little jealous."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I took this for pelvic inflammatory disease. Basically, inflammation of the prostate caused urinary issues (trouble voiding, frequency, etc.). Prescribed Flomax to help those issues. Overall, the medication only did 2 things to me. 1. Retrograde ejaculation (ejaculation traveling backward up into your bladder) and constant erections. Got on Alfuzosin instead. That worked a lot better. I say give it a try, since overall I didn’t get “bad” side effects."

For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Have been on tamsulosin for over a year for the treatment of BPH. It certainly reduced the urgency to urinate, but very little impact on the frequency. Nightmares are a regular occurrence, as is retrograde ejaculation. Have been getting sick when doing physical work on a hot day. Have just read the official warning and that you shouldn't do physical exercise and work when it's hot. I did a bladder diary a month ago and am going to stop taking the medication and do a new bladder diary and see whether it really is making a difference."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Taking for more than 2 weeks now. This drug is not for me. Foggy brain in the morning, low sex drive, retrograde ejaculation, vision issues, and oddly, constipation. My bowels feel like they don’t move anymore. My flow is better, but I’d rather have to go more often and take longer than deal with this."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "I was prescribed Flomax because I constantly had to pee. It really helped to cut down on bathroom visits. I called it a miracle drug when I first started on it. I have had retrograde ejaculation, but that's not a big problem. One very interesting side effect I've noticed is it makes my penis hang longer. I love this side effect! I guess it's because everything is relaxed down there. I'm not seeing anyone mention it on this board, but I have seen it mentioned on other sites."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "Slight improvement in passing urine in reducing the number of times, dry ejaculations and low sex performance. Would like a medicine which does not impair sex performance."

Tamsulosin for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia "This medicine has been great for me. I’ve had an enlarged prostate and dealt with frequent urination for 2 and a half years. I’ve tried bladder relaxers such as Vesicare and Myrbetriq and prostate shrinkers such as Cialis, yet none of them helped. Finally, my third urologist recommended Flomax. I’m on day 3 and already noticing drastic improvements. I have no trouble starting a stream or emptying, and while I still have somewhat of an urge to pee more frequently than normal, it’s not nearly as severe or often as before, and I suspect that will go away over time. It has given me some retrograde ejaculation; however, I’m not looking to impregnate anyone right now anyways. Too long; didn't read: Works great, retrograde ejaculation."
