"Age 74 on Flomax/tamsulosin for 8 years. I started at 0.4 mg and later to 0.8 mg. I never had a problem while on it. Pee strong stream, no stones yet. Dr. prescribed finasteride 2 years ago because Flomax alone was not enough to keep stream adequate. No problems. Tamsulosin alone kept me urinating for 8 years. Life is better when you are peeing normally."

Tamsulosin "I have used Flomax for a year. It has reduced the urgency and improved flow. Initially, it inhibited sex drive, but I got used to it and am back to nearly normal. My doctor has recommended Rapaflo. One improvement may be sleeping better. I now have trouble getting back to sleep after my once-per-night pee trip."

Tamsulosin "Has made urination easier and less urgent. The only side effect has been retrograde ejaculation. Kind of an odd feeling and no semen in the condom. There is some cloudiness in the urine with the first urination after sexual intercourse. After getting used to the feeling, sex is as pleasurable as it has always been."

Tamsulosin "The doctor asked me to try Flomax, as I was making five or six trips a night to the bathroom. I am a 72-year-old man who was tired and needed help. I read the reviews, and most on this site were negative to some degree. In my case, having taken this drug for 3 weeks, I have had no side effects, and I am sleeping 7 to 8 hours without having to get up. In my case, this drug works, I hope the benefits are long-lasting. I am reviewing this drug as a contributor to the National Health Service of the UK, and as such, payment is not required."

Tamsulosin "I posted previously (I think here?) about my dissatisfaction with Flomax and the pain and discomfort it caused me during the 3 days (3 doses) I took it and the 5 days after I stopped taking it, thinking I was experiencing residual effects. Turns out I had a UTI infection due to the cystoscopy. Be sure to get antibiotics after cystoscopies, before starting Flomax, avoiding much pain and discomfort. I might give Flomax another try, will consult with additional doctors before!"

Tamsulosin "It is essential to read all the adverse effects others have suffered and the alternatives that worked for them. I am an old man over 80 years old and have been on Flomax for years with no side effects. We are all different, so that is to be expected. I have several friends who also use Flomax. Not once has the subject of side effects come up, and I must assume they don’t have them. One is a “complainer” and would undoubtedly say something. A year ago, I got COVID and survived easily. I have had worse colds, and I have several of the high-risk characteristics and was surprised it wasn’t worse. Since then, I have experienced a stuffy nose, which is minor and not an issue for me. I must assume that it is related to the COVID, not Flomax. For each person who has a negative side effect, I assume that there could be dozens or hundreds who don’t."

Tamsulosin "Flomax almost killed me. It caused rapid heartbeat and sudden syncope twice in my case. This happened when I suddenly fainted and dropped hard on the hard tiles on the kitchen floor, hurting my head just a few hours after taking the medication, and another time in the shower, causing body bruises. Just imagine experiencing sudden syncope while driving to work on a major highway, I would have lost my life. I was admitted to the hospital for checkups to see if my syncope was related to something else and stayed for 34 hours, costing me close to $43,500! I was told my syncope was caused by Flomax and nothing else, as my heart, lungs, and brain were just fine. I would never have taken this medication had I known it causes these side effects. NEVER AGAIN. Please don't take it."

Tamsulosin "Used Flomax for a long time, and it worked great for me. Used to get up 5 times a night, then after using Flomax, maybe once or twice. Then my company raised the price from $75.00 to $495.00 for 3 months. Then they said they had a generic for $30.00 for 3 months. Am on the generic, and it does not work."

Tamsulosin "I was experiencing severe back pain, in which I was barely able to turn my head to the right or the left. I did extensive research and found out that the probable cause was my prostate. I consulted with my doctor, who confirmed that it was my prostate. I asked my doctor to explain the connection between my back and neck pain, but she got irritated. She prescribed Flomax, which has been a nightmare for me. After taking the Flomax, I was able to pee more freely, which has been a problem for me. Now I cannot hold my urine for long when I want to pee. Secondly, I do have a dry orgasm. I did some research and found out that Flomax will do this. It is irreversible. Based on reviews here, it confirms my fears."

"I have trouble urinating with a weak stream. Doctor said my prostate was normal, but put me on tamsulosin with a slight improvement, but still up three times a night and find I have to urinate often during the day. I keep fluids to a minimum and forget about sexual enjoyment. No problem with erection but no ejaculation, so why bother? So I tried to stop taking it and then couldn’t pee at all. I wish my doctor had told me about this."

Tamsulosin "I took this for about three weeks for BPH. After nearly passing out the second time after standing up, I decided it wasn't worth it. I also had nausea and lethargy. It did help somewhat with urine flow, but the side effects caused me to stop."

"First dose gave me increased flow and great relief from that obnoxious 'never quite empty' feeling and frequency, urgency, and dribbling that I had lived with for the past 5 years or so. I just hope I can keep taking it, as I am experiencing side effects, including feeling very lightheaded - similar to being over the legal limit on alcohol! I have also had muscle weakness and a very lethargic feeling. Had some nausea, but I am not sure if that was from the medicine or from my diverticulitis. Interesting that the description says it is intended to relax the muscles of the bladder neck and prostate. I also gained about an inch when flaccid, and 'the boys' seem to be hanging lower, too. Time will tell if I can keep taking this."

Tamsulosin "Dizziness, blurred vision, sore head, itchy rash, but it did help the flow rate of passing urine. But it did not stop the frequent trips to the toilet at night, 5 to 6 times. No full night's sleep. Seeing a professor to change the drug if possible."

Tamsulosin "I just started this and then read reviews here. I'm REALLY concerned. One guy said that he has good luck taking Flomax every other day. If he reads this, do you get the side effects of sexual dysfunction, like every single other guy has mentioned here? I decided to try this, and it seems to be working so far. Has anyone stopped this and had their sexual functioning return to normal? I wonder if this is just an effect of lowered blood pressure. Besides, I cannot afford this stuff. I've done a lot of research on natural alternatives. I'm going to try these, and at least right now, I am optimistic, as user reviews are very positive."

Tamsulosin "Not effective half of the time; causes me to feel like the room is spinning; doesn't always get bladder fully emptied; makes me feel weak and tired at least half the time; occasional urinary incontinence; loss of sexual desire and poor erections; often makes me feel nervous or apprehensive."

"For some unknown reason, I suddenly had real difficulties urinating. It could have been a reaction to a shingles vaccine or CBD oil, but I thought I would need a trip to the ER. The doctor gave me a ton of tests and a tamsulosin script, and after three weeks, things were back to normal. The tamsulosin seems to be working, although it took a while. Side effects aren't bad."

"I’m 69. Started taking the 0.4mg dose 3 weeks ago and it is definitely helping with both improved flow and lowered the frequency and horrible urges. Have now got down to just 1 or 2 nighttime pees instead of 3 or 4 before. Drug has definitely also improved erectile function - probably about as much as Cialis 2.5mg daily. Prostate is 60cc so quite enlarged but at least a detailed MRI scan shows no cancer. Downsides are unable to orgasm most of the time but I can put up with that - at least so far. Early problems when taking the drug were tiredness and slightly aching legs and arms. It was only occasional and for the first week or so and got over that by taking paracetamol. All in all, I’d rate this drug 9/10."

"I am 62, and I started on tamsulosin 4 days ago. I was very reluctant as I had been getting by without drugs for a few years. Then I had two urine infections in June/July and ended up catheterized for 10 days. It took two courses of antibiotics to clear it up, and the consultant and urology nurses were surprised I was not already on tamsulosin. So, 4 days in... I am taking 400 micrograms after breakfast. I have not had any dizziness, but my pulse is elevated (not uncomfortably) when I am active, which I hope will settle down. Slight stuffy nose and headache in the morning, which has lessened each day. Notable improvement in ease of having to pee, which is the whole point - my bladder is not having to work so hard to empty. Fewer nighttime visits. So, so far so good;"

Tamsulosin "My experience is bang-on great! I rarely get up at night, and my flow is excellent, no pain, no dribbles, etc. I take about 4 pills that will lower my blood pressure, plus morphine, which does interact with Flomax, but I lowered my morphine dose and spread it out more, and it works great. I was worried about insomnia, but all is well there. I had a vasectomy 13 years ago, which, when combined with Flomax, may cause low ejaculate. Flomax works great for me, and my life has improved considerably."

"Really started a strong stream with no dribbling after a week. Get dizzy, tired most of the day, no erection without Cialis, retrograde ejaculation (climax feeling is good), and have had draining sinuses for the year I have taken Flomax. Time to see if there is something else or have a TURP."

"I am using this for frequent nighttime trips to urinate, like 3-4 times a night. Sleep was interrupted and poor. Now I am able to get a good night's sleep with only having to get up once a night to void. I did not see GI symptoms listed as possible side effects. But, like Steve67, I too have the heartburn/gastric reflux. Been taking this for about 2 months now. And the med may have caused a wave of intense nausea I had to coach myself out of. Interesting to say the least."

Tamsulosin "Was given Flomax on Monday to help with frequent trips to the bathroom. On Tuesday, my tooth started hurting, so I went to the dentist, only to be sent home with hope that it would just go away. The pain got worse and so intense that Thursday I went back to the dentist, who said he could see no reason for the pain, so he sent me to a specialist dentist 100 miles from my house. I had X-rays, hot and cold treatments, and was sent home with more pain pills. I only took two Flomax pills, one Monday and one Tuesday. On the drive home, my pain started to go away. I called the doctor that gave me the Flomax, he said to stop, it can cause tooth pain."

"It works well to control frequent urination, but I'd rather keep changing my underwear than put up with the side effects - chemical castration, blurry vision, dizziness, imbalance. Now into the second month with the hope that symptoms would abate. Instead, they continue to get worse. Absolutely NOT worth taking."

"Worked extremely well after taking effect within one week. Immediate relief from the compulsion to urinate, and I had fewer trips to the bathroom during the night. But the best aspect, aside from its medical use, was the vivid dreaming--both pleasant and nightmarish. GREAT!!! The dreams were like watching great movies every night for free. Can't emphasize enough how great these vivid dreams, deep REM, made me feel rested and entertained."

"I had severe urination problems at 64 to 65 years of age. I couldn't hardly urinate when I wanted, where I wanted. It was painful to urinate and I could not empty out. I saw a urologist and had a camera stuck up my penis. My prostate is the size of a battleship. I have been taking this tamsulosin for nine months, and it has made it so I can urinate without pain. It has been great. Side effects are not so. Retrograde ejaculation takes the fun out of orgasm. Sleepy and listless often. I think I am going to have surgery to ream out the prostate and have been weighing the issues. You might as well try this stuff on and make your own decision. For now, it sure has helped. Before, I had to get up three or four times a night to pee a little."
