For Urinary Tract Infection "Never take this for a UTI. I've been having recurrent UTIs every month on my period. I usually take an over-the-counter drug called Uricalm (works wonders), but this recent time the pain was really bad. After going to the doctor, listing my symptoms of a UTI, they gave me this drug for 3 days. First day, I felt a tad nauseous with chills and hot and cold flashes. Second day, I feel so sick to my stomach and extreme loss of appetite. I'm not finishing these two pills I have left, they make it worse than it already is. If I could rate lower, I would."

For Urinary Tract Infection "The worst antibiotic I have ever taken in my life... beware! Severe anxiety, dizziness, head felt itchy, fatigued, sensitive to light, weak, no appetite. The worst feeling of my life!! Honestly. I have an infant and am a stay-at-home mom, I felt like I was losing control and felt helpless that I could hardly take care of and interact with my child. Awful, awful drug, I mean it! Still coming down after just 2 days of use, today is the 2nd day of not taking it. I pray I feel back to normal ASAP! Hugs to anyone going through something similar."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Day 1. Just took one pill in the evening, and after 1-2 hours, I had a high fever, big headaches like someone hit me with a bat. Loss of appetite. Day 2. Morning, I got really tired, and headaches got better. Took the second pill in the evening. The big headaches came back and I felt dizzy. Tried to sleep as much as possible. Day 3, woke up still with headaches and nausea. Skin on my hand is peeling and developed diarrhea. I won't continue the medicine due to too many side effects. Much more, I don't even remember."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "On this Bactrim, I had no appetite, was extremely fatigued, and constipated. On the third day, I woke up and realized that I was unable to pass urine. By the time I got to the ER, they had to use a catheter to remove 12 liters of urine. The ER doctor insisted it was not a side effect, but there is no way I will ever take this again!"

For Bacterial Infection "Before taking this medication, I had general anxiety, and I rarely had panic/anxiety attacks. I started this medication on a Monday, and by the next day, I was having severe panic/anxiety attacks. They consisted of shaking, feeling of fear and panic, sweating, nausea, a burning sensation in the chest, a fast heart rate, and feeling faint. I also have had a loss of appetite and haven’t been able to sleep. I just stopped taking this medication (now Thursday) in hopes that the attacks would stop. I thought I was going crazy. I was unable to do anything; leave my house, go to doctors' appointments, etc. I do not recommend taking this medication at all. I have not seen any benefits from using this drug."

For Acne "I started this medication a week ago, and I have already seen fantastic results! I went to the dermatologist thinking that she was going to put me on another medication that wouldn't work. I was pretty much hopeless. But within almost 3 days of being prescribed, I saw my skin clearing! I know what it feels like to have no hope that your skin will get better, but this worked so well for me. I highly suggest it. So far, I have no side effects. Loss of appetite is the only one I've noticed, which isn't bad at all."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "I was just prescribed this antibiotic today due to a staph infection in each leg from shaving. My doctor mentioned MRSA, needless to say, I'm freaking out over this. Regardless, it's been about 4 hours since I took the first pill - obviously, the infection sites haven't gotten any better, but I'm hoping they do. As far as side effects go, I'm lucky so far to only have a little bit of heartburn and slight nausea/loss of appetite. I'm crossing my fingers this stuff works for me!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had bad abdominal pain under my navel and sharp, dull pains in my pelvic area for what seems like a good week or so. Took a UTI test at home, and it came back as a possible UTI. Called the doctor, and she put me on Cipro, all in all. After the first day, I was having chest pains in my left side and in the middle that were constant and wouldn't go away. I switched from Cipro to sulfamethoxazole, and all my symptoms from before taking any medication have gone away. Except I've been peeing a whole lot, I've had a loss of appetite, and I have felt nauseous and had bad headaches. Little to no back pain, unless the usual, sitting for too long."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have read many, many reviews on this drug. Though some were positive, most are negative and consistent with the side effects I suffered. I was put on this drug for UTI, I had not had one in 25 years. I was given a 10-day, 2x a day prescription and, full disclosure, I suffer from HBP and severe anxiety. After a couple of days on this drug, I felt like I was coming out of my skin, lost my appetite, felt like I was losing my mind, had nightmares, insomnia, and thoughts of dying (not suicidal) constantly, and I was in a complete state of panic every waking moment. As these symptoms worsened, they also intensified. I have never had an allergic reaction to a drug before, I have taken antibiotics in the past, mostly for sinus infections. This was only my second time being treated for UTI and the first time with this drug. I would not take this again, nor would I recommend it for anyone. I only wish we could chat in person, it would make this experience less scary. God bless each of you."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "My son had a serious 'diaper rash' (even though he was potty trained) for weeks that no creams would clear up. It started out as a few pimples and quickly erupted into large, painful, pus-filled boils with blisters after breaking open. After trying every cream imaginable, my doctor prescribed Bactrim, and the rash was literally better overnight. In a few days, it was cleared up completely! He did, however, experience a lack of appetite, lethargy, upset stomach, and diarrhea. Nothing severe, but a little uncomfortable for him...but not as bad as his painful rash had been!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Prostatitis "I went to the doctor for prostatitis and was prescribed Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole). Some background, I have high-functioning anxiety and decided to write this review while I wait for my doctor to call me back about changing antibiotics. These other reviews are 100% accurate about severe anxiety (heart rate over 90 BPM 24/7), headaches, loss of appetite, and nausea... nothing better than throwing up stomach bile because you can't eat. I thought I had COVID but tested negative... On the bright side, after 3 days, my prostatitis went away, I guess it's a double-edged sword."

For Sinusitis "My first time on this medication. So far, I'm not impressed. I'm on day 3 right now for a sinus infection, and I still feel basically the same as I did the day I went in to see the doctor, only my throat is incredibly more sore, and I'm coughing when I wasn't before. Having trouble sleeping, and I have no appetite. Hopefully, I will see some improvement in the next day or two."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Started Bactrim 800 mg DS on a Wednesday. Thursday afternoon had a 103 fever. Fever would reduce with NSAIDs. Fever has been present every day since. The major side effects I experienced were fever, chills, body aches, cough, loss of appetite, feeling dehydrated, severe fatigue, and change in urine volume. I thought maybe I had COVID, got a test. (No COVID.) Original UTI symptoms (kidney area pain) were gone by day 3. I’m on the last day of the script, and I will NOT take this again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "One of the worst antibiotics that I have been prescribed to treat my UTI. I am prone to UTIs and have had many antibiotics that have helped me immediately, and this one is the worst. It is day four, and some relief regarding the stinging while urinating, but I still feel major discomfort with the bladder and vagina. I have had migraines for three days now, my neck is tense and heavy, fever, body aches, and chills. Chest cold and hard time breathing, and very itchy! I was told to drink lots of water and keep hydrated, but I can’t. I have no appetite whatsoever and do not feel the urge to drink any fluids. Do not recommend anyone taking this for a UTI. You’ll feel worse."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "I was prescribed Bactrim by my dermatologist for my acne, and I must say it was the worst experience. At first, I ignored the side effects, but I initially experienced loss of appetite, night sweats, shivers, and had trouble falling asleep. After one week of taking it, I experienced joint and muscle pain, which is ultimately the reason I stopped taking it. Such horrible side effects."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Given a 7-day course. After 2 days, insomnia, anxiety. Complete loss of appetite, eating was a chore. Mild pain in kidney areas. After 5 days, vivid nightmares, difficulty falling asleep, and severe anxiety at night. After 6 days, stopped because of an anxiety attack and weak pulse, feelings of lightheadedness."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this medication for a sinus/ear infection. Within a few days of taking it, I could finally breathe and begin to hear again. But I had also developed severe nausea, migraines, and loss of appetite. I have also suffered bouts of extreme fatigue and dizziness that have led to me nearly passing out. And on top of all that, I broke out in an awful red, itchy rash all over my chest, neck, and face. This medication is terrible. I have never reacted to anything this way."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Took this medication for a UTI I was experiencing for about 4 weeks prior. Had enough, so went to my GP. The first night, approximately 2-3 hours after taking it at 7 pm, I had terrible stomach cramps, bloating, and nausea. Also seemed to get an associated headache and am not feeling hungry, have lost my appetite, which is very unusual for me. Just took my third dose, each time, I've had the same cramps and abdominal discomfort, painful, sick sensations that last about 5-6 hours. Luckily, I've had a night shift for 3 nights, but now I have to be up early in the morning and hoping the pains don't keep me awake. As for effectiveness, not certain yet. But my UTI symptoms appear to be relieved this far."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Got a terrible UTI, TERRIBLE, where I was peeing literal blood (sorry if too graphic). I have taken this one time before, and this is my second time taking it, and now for a 10-day course instead of a 7-day course. It works. I am not bleeding anymore, peeing normally again, but let me tell you, I have the worst yeast infection of my life on this course of them. I have no idea why (recently, the past couple of months, I have had chronic UTIs and yeast infections, and I was literally on a 7-day Monistat right before getting the UTI, and now the yeast infection is in full force again, BUT WORSE). The first day taking the medication, I had loss of appetite, but all these other symptoms of nausea and all that people are mentioning, I didn't have with this. The yeast infection I got maybe started 2-3 days after taking 4-6 pills of this medication. I would take it again to get rid of the infection, but it just makes me sad to know it'll cause these darn yeast infections. Can't catch a break. Someone recommended me to ask my doctor for anti-yeast capsules to take while I do this antibiotic next time, and that should help the yeast infection. Maybe next time."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim for a raging UTI (that I had over a month due to no health insurance), and I had a prescription of 20 tablets that I needed to take. I might want to add that I'm allergic to amoxicillin. During the process of taking Bactrim, I experienced nausea throughout the whole day, even when taken with a meal, either before or after. I also felt very fatigued, weak, and didn't really have an appetite. After finishing my bottle yesterday, this morning I woke up with a very sore throat and had a very hard time swallowing (I still have my tonsils, and when I get sick, I always get strep throat, hoping that's not the case). Overall, I'm glad my UTI is gone, but this medication I would try not to take again due to it making me still feel unwell."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've had a very long history of UTIs. I'm 15, and I usually have a really bad urgency to pee, bloody urine, and unbearable burning in my bladder. My doctor usually prescribes Bactrim, and says I take it at 4 pm, I won't have any more symptoms at maybe 6 pm. BUT I do lose my appetite, and I feel bloated with bad cramps. I don't care, just as long as it gets rid of the UTI."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Absolutely the worst medication for a UTI I’ve ever been given. I’ve been given antibiotics in the past that have changed my urine color, and those never gave me bad side effects, but this medication is awful. It makes me feel nauseous, makes me lose my appetite, and causes severe pain in my bladder. It makes me constipated too, and it’s freakin' awful. If your doctor tries to prescribe you it, tell them no."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have a UTI and was prescribed this combo, sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim medication, for every 12 hours for 10 days. I took the first dose at night, then the next dose the next morning. I started getting the worst headache ever. Any jolt or noise would make my head surge. Then I just felt out of it, like not in reality. No appetite at all, which is very unlike me. I felt very confused and couldn't get my thoughts in order. I went to work, and I was shaky and felt hot, then cold. I had to leave early because I kept messing up my orders. I was supposed to take my next dose while at work, but I didn't. I felt so scared, like I was going to die. I went home and couldn't shake this feeling of impending doom. I laid down to sleep, and my heart was racing. I felt hot and scared. I couldn't sleep. I will call to get another antibiotic. This one is really weird and scary. I don't understand how an antibiotic can make you feel like this. So glad I got through the night."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim for a UTI for 10 days, twice a day. I noticed after taking the first pill, I would feel pressure near my lower abdomen area. The other sensation was feeling like I had a full bladder after I would pee, but I guess that was part of the UTI. Throughout these days, I noticed a loss of appetite and a sense of depression. It’s day 10, and I noticed I lost 5 lbs. Not sure if the UTI is gone since I took my last pill today, and it gives me pain pressure near my abdomen, so we’ll see."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I got this for a UTI at the ER. The next day I had an intense sharp headache that caused me to throw up. I lost my appetite as well and hardly ate for two weeks because I couldn't stomach anything and ended up losing a lot of weight. I also broke out in a terrible, painful rash. It was all over my arms, chest, face, and neck. After two days, I had to go to my regular doctor for steroids and a change in the antibiotics. The absolute worst experience on any medication, I'm really surprised it's still on the market after reading all the reviews."
