For Urinary Tract Infection "Horrible drug. I was given this yesterday, but as soon as I took it, my body went crazy: nervous, dizzy, pain, fatigue, itching. I'm still having side effects even after stopping the medicine. SMH, this stuff is no good, period - doctors just give you anything these days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Let me start by saying this: I was originally prescribed amoxicillin to deal with the UTI, but after it proved to be useless, my doctor switched me over to this absolute life-sucking medication; I'm to take 2 pills every day for 2 weeks, and every time I take it, I feel zombified - and that's a compliment for how insatiably terrible it makes me feel. Dizziness, nausea, headaches, insomnia, stomach cramps, constipation - you name it, I had it. I've been glued to my bed for almost 2 weeks, feeling as though I spiritually disconnected from my body and physically manifested into a literal tombstone. The only reason it gets a 2 is because it stopped the burning sensation of my UTI within 4 days - but the side effects are not worth it. I'd rather have suffered with the UTI than to have dealt with this disaster. Don't get this. Ever."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took my first pill, and almost immediately, I experienced the following side effects: severe dizziness, blurred vision, slurred speech, lightheadedness, and brain fog. I did everything they told me to do before I took the drug, including eating breakfast and drinking plenty of water. I immediately decided to discontinue use. I also contacted my doctor about the side effects. I am curious as to how long this drug combination has been on the market because I have never had anything like this happen to me before. I'm nearly 70 years old, and I've taken plenty of antibiotics during my lifetime. To say I'm unhappy is an understatement."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Prostate UTI asked not to be given Cipro as it can cause permanent tendon damage if you are doing repetitive movements. See CBC news article. They gave Bactrim. It's a poor substitute. Dizzy, tired, dry eyes, damn slow working. On day 4 of 7, not much better. Cipro is the one of choice for prostate in my experience to work well, but it has its side effects too."

For Urinary Tract Infection "My doctor prescribed me these for a UTI. I took it at 8 pm. By midnight, I had the absolute worst panic attack of my life. I couldn’t stand, I was hyperventilating and genuinely thought I was dying. I decided to try to push through it and continued to take it the next day. I was fine throughout the day, I was still anxious but not panicky, and the dizziness was awful, but that was about it. Fast forward to midnight again, I started feeling very weird. My vision was weird, I was seeing lights that weren’t there, and I felt like I wasn’t in my own body. I was completely out of it, and I was processing everything very slowly. Then the panic attacks started happening. I had multiple panic attacks that night, some were mild and some were severe. I woke up feeling fine the next morning, but as soon as I took the next dose, the anxiety and dizziness came back. Oh, and it has not relieved my UTI symptoms. I am terrified of this medication."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim for a urinary tract infection a couple of days ago. I was fine after the first dose they gave me at the hospital. The next day, I continued my doses, one in the morning and one in the evening. I’ve done nothing but vomit, get really dizzy, and have horrible headaches. It has not helped my UTI at all, and I’ve been on it for a couple of days."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this medication for a sinus/ear infection. Within a few days of taking it, I could finally breathe and begin to hear again. But I had also developed severe nausea, migraines, and loss of appetite. I have also suffered bouts of extreme fatigue and dizziness that have led to me nearly passing out. And on top of all that, I broke out in an awful red, itchy rash all over my chest, neck, and face. This medication is terrible. I have never reacted to anything this way."

For Traveler's Diarrhea "I started taking this combo antibiotic sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim because I was getting diarrhea-like symptoms. I was prescribed for 10 days, 2 pills a day. First dosage, I felt lightheadedness and a bit dizzy. Second dosage, similar symptoms. On the 2nd day, I started to feel like I was breathing harder with dizziness. A few doses later, the symptoms above only started getting enhanced... especially the chest tightening and breathing hard. I decided to stop the medication immediately."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I started this medicine about a week ago. Ever since then, I have been fatigued, dizzy, nauseous, having migraines, sensitive to light, and haven't been able to concentrate. I was taking 2 a day, but I felt so horrible I bumped myself down to only one a day. My abscess has burst, but I still feel weak and very sore."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I am not loving this medicine at all. So thankful I found this page, though. I am currently at the end of day 4 of taking this for a UTI. I am feeling flushed, feverish, weak, dizzy, bloated, and the anxiety is overwhelming. I guess it took care of my UTI, but I am feeling way worse in other ways, freaking out. Now that I know others have felt similar negative symptoms, I am hoping I can now calm enough to get some sleep since I haven’t had much of it lately. Definitely calling my doctor tomorrow to see if I need to try something else."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I started taking this medicine for a UTI that was awful. This is my first UTI, and I'm 18. I'm on day 3 now, and it seems like the side effects from the pills are way worse than the actual UTI. I'm reading all the other reviews, and the medicine has made me nauseous, but it's also giving me really bad abdominal pain and sharp pain in my ribs, along with feeling really dizzy and hot (especially at work). Hoping it doesn't get worse as I take it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have not ever suffered allergies to any meds except this one. My face got really red, itching, wheezing, and a bad headache. Went by the doc's office next day to see if this was an allergic reaction. Nurse asked if I had fevers and said prob but had not checked. I had just drank some ibuprofen, so when she checked, it was slightly higher than normal. Nurse said if I could tolerate the medication to continue taking the 5-day dosage. I felt so bad by the 4th day (lightheaded/dizziness, facial numbness, extreme fatigue, depression, body aches, and my right side and back hurt a lot). I skipped the 5th dose. I thought I would never feel better again. It took about 2 months to feel better. I found out I am allergic to sulfa meds. Did not clear UTI."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed a 5-day course of Bactrim to get rid of a UTI. Giving it a 5 rating because it worked, but I have been so sick since taking it. I have flu-like symptoms, chills, sweating, dizziness, and severe nausea. Tylenol helps with the head and body aches. I took my last dose yesterday and still feel like garbage. Hope it gets better soon."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I got this for an infected toe I had. I'm supposed to take 2 pills a day for 10 days. I'm nauseous, I don't have an appetite, severe muscle pain, headaches, dizziness, and dry mouth. This was too strong of a dose for me."

For Urinary Tract Infection "When I started this medication, everything was absolutely fine for the first two days, no side effects, and I thought all was good. Then on the third day (four pills), I woke very early with the worst stomach pain and diarrhea. I also felt nauseous and dizzy. I went to work as I was well aware of the side effects and tried to soldier on. I made it till about 2 p.m. Another bout of diarrhea followed by extreme nausea. I called the doctor and now have an appointment to swap antibiotics. Still feeling slight signs of the side effects, but it's only been 24 hours, so I'm guessing it's still passing. Fingers crossed the new stuff works better."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "This stuff is nightmare fuel. I’m on the third day, my UTI is still lingering, and I feel worse than I’ve felt in a long time. Constant headache, weak, shaky, anxious, dizzy, itchy??? And the diarrhea is just a fun little bonus. I would say if you’re highly sensitive to medications like I am, and you’re taking this stuff for a UTI, go and get a urine test to make sure Bactrim is the right stuff for you. Do not take this unless it’s your only option. I’m sure for those with sturdier constitutions this stuff is fine, but I’m not one of those people, and I feel horrible."

For Kidney Infections "I was given Macrobid for a UTI, but 5 days later, the doctor found a bacteria that was resistant to the Macrobid and gave me 3 days of Bactrim. By then, the UTI had developed into a kidney infection. I felt worried that 3 days was not enough, so my PCP tacked on an additional 7 days. Glad she did that as I did not see improvements with the first 3 days and started feeling better after the 5th or 6th day. I am finally able to void a quality amount of urine, just like before the infection. The antibiotic had slight side effects of dizziness and fatigue. I noticed I ate less, but never fasted. The best thing to do is drink pure water and keep urinating."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I’m on day 2 of using this medication, and I cannot finish it. The first time I took it, I was so weak, dizzy, confused, and my heart rate was through the roof. Even going up the stairs or getting up out of bed winded me, and I’m completely healthy. It was so bad I’d sleep all day just hoping the symptoms would go away, but I can’t take the side effects: the rapid heartbeat and feeling of constant anxiety. I have never felt this weak from medication. Also, it has given me a pounding aura headache that just makes me extremely dizzy and exhausted. I’m stopping this medication immediately and contacting my doctor, this is horrible. No one should ever experience this. UTI discomfort has subsided mildly, but either way, I will not continue this awful medication."

For Bacterial Infection "Have been feeling very weird. Feel spacey and not myself. The side effect of vertigo started on day 3. I did a 10-day course of twice a day Bactrim double strength and still feel strange, vertigo, strange sensations in my head, even 5 days after my last dose."

For Urinary Tract Infection "It was horrible. I had a UTI and was prescribed this med. I had every side effect listed except for vomiting. I did not sleep for 2 nights. I had to get up in the middle of the night to shower and help itching to go away. My stomach still aches, dizzy, hot sweats. The doctor wanted me to go to the hospital-I would not go. On water for today, clear broth and BRAT diet slowly tomorrow. Please be careful taking this drug!!!!"

For Bacterial Skin Infection "This is the third time using this medication for a MRSA infection (on my chin). I take the medication in liquid form because I can’t swallow pills. The liquid is really nasty and is hard for me to get down without gagging. I have been taking this medication for six days now, and it doesn’t really seem like the abscess has gone down that much. The boil is still hard and has pus in it. I have been putting on a prescribed ointment on the abscess. I have been having side effects from the medication such as dizziness, being lightheaded, seeing white dots, and a lot of nausea. The medication has worked for me in the past, but it is really hard for me to get the medication down."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Managed to get a UTI overseas with barely any doctors around. Tried to get rid of the UTI myself for 2 weeks until I gave in and went to the pharmacy, who only had this type of antibiotic. It relieved my pain for the 5-day course I’d been given. The only side effects I felt were nausea and loss of coordination. However, after my last antibiotic yesterday, the pain has completely come back. I don’t know what to do as I’m still overseas."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 3 days of Bactrim after reacting poorly to Cipro (after only two days), so this is sort of a combo review. I experienced dizziness, weakness, and muscle cramps, especially in my hands and feet. The worst of it was a cluster headache episode that was debilitating. I just finished up the three days of Bactrim, so I’m hoping these side effects wear off. UTI is cleared. Wouldn’t recommend for a mild UTI."
