Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "I'm on this medication after developing a staph infection in my C-section incision. I began feeling dizzy on day one. I've had some itching on my stomach, but not too terribly. Yesterday (day 6 of 10) I developed a headache. I still have said headache. I feel blurry-visioned and dizzy all day. Extreme hunger too. Idk. My staph is healing, and the incision looks great now... But after suffering a severe spinal headache following my surgery... A headache is the last thing I want to experience. 3 more days... Ugh. Is it effective for infection? Yes. Is it pleasant to endure? Nope."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed a 10-day course for cellulitis, and after 5 days, the infection cleared. But I'm so nauseous, gassy, and dizzy I had to stop. I feel so bad I'm borderline suicidal. It's an effective drug for sure, but brutal on the GI tract. I pray this feeling goes away soon..."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I have never had such a horrible experience with an antibiotic. I only took it for three days, twice a day, and I was so nauseous I couldn’t eat anything, and I got so dizzy that I couldn’t even walk straight. I will never take this antibiotic again."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Worst medicine ever. I'm not allergic to anything, by the way. I was prescribed for a UTI and had to stop after 5 days. Migraines, eyeballs throbbed, chest was in excruciating pain, neck pain, upper and lower back pain, stomach and ovary pain, and leg pain, especially in the knees. On top of that, nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, the immediate and random need to throw up, and worst of all, a red rash all over my body. To top that off, loss of sex drive. I have never had an allergic reaction to a medicine before. I will never take this again. BEWARE!!!!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "Experienced confusion, overall body weakness, could not sleep, extreme lower body weakness (resulting in repetitive falls), dizziness. These symptoms occurred when my 96-year-old father was prescribed this medication for a UTI, symptoms began after the first day of taking it. By the second day, he fell once, the third day, he fell 2 separate times, and I finally realized the medicine was probably the cause and discontinued using it. Note: Dad is old, but it is worth mentioning that he slept A LOT prior to starting this medicine and was able to get himself to the bathroom without falling. (He slept the large majority of daytime and nighttime). At least by the second day of taking this med, he didn't sleep more than an hour at a time and was awake and confused and restless for the majority of the time. I stopped administering medicine after the third day. It is only the first day of stopping the med, so I don't know yet how long these side effects will last!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Acne "The dermatologist put me on Bactrim DS, to be taken twice a day with food. No side effects in the first few days and did a good job at clearing up my face. Currently, I am on the 9th day and experiencing severe side effects. Fever, chills, extreme joint pain, muscle weakness, and overall sluggishness. Also experiencing difficulty breathing, a tight chest, headache, and dizziness to the point of almost falling over, for no reason. The most severe of the side effects is the joint pain. Can hardly take a step on my right leg and cannot lift anything with my right arm. Bactrim does its job, however, at the expense of your health. Please do your research before starting this drug!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I have 1 more day left of this medicine. I was told to take 10 days. No way can handle it. I've been getting sweating, bad stomach pain, stomach upsets, dizziness, little appetite. To make it worse, I don't think it's working!"

For Bacterial Infection "Do your research before taking this medication (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim). I was prescribed this medication for an ear piercing (rook) that rejected. I was supposed to take it for 10 days/2x daily. The first 3 days, no symptoms; however, the next two days I started feeling like I was coming down with the flu/cold. I experienced body aches, low-grade fever, headaches, and a mild sore throat, as well as some unsteadiness. After experiencing these side effects, I stopped taking the medication. I’m waiting for my doctor to contact me with further instructions. But I will not be taking the remaining pills, and I’m never taking this medication again. BTW: My ear looks and feels much better."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I often suffer from UTI. And Bactrim Forte is the antibiotic that I usually use to treat them. The only side effect that I have noticed is headache, with a little nausea and dizziness. I also take Ultra Levure with antibiotics to avoid a yeast infection."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I'm on day 2 of treating a urinary tract infection. I have been trying my best not to puke. I'm so nauseous, tired, and dizzy. I've had an irritation from my UTI, it hasn't cleared up yet, so I will have to see what the rest of the week brings. I've never had problems with antibiotics before."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I'm on day 5 of Bactrim, and it sure is hard work. I don't know what makes up Bactrim, but its side effects remind me of an opiate! I am 18 and go to the gym every day, and I cannot work out properly anymore. I'm so dizzy and tired, I also have this weird mind fog. I did 7 miles on the bike at the gym today, and boy, did that take a lot out of me. This medication really sucks. I recommend drinking lots and lots of water."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I would not recommend this to anyone. I have had bleeding in my urine for over two weeks, and the doctors associated it with a UTI. After being given Macrobid, and symptoms persisting, they gave me Septa. I took it for two days, twice a day with food, was fine. On the third day, not so much. I began shaking uncontrollably, dry mouth, I was incoherent to the point I couldn't even understand what people were saying to me, my heart was racing, I was dizzy, and extremely nauseous. It literally felt like I had been roofied (drugged up). I don't even remember half the night, and I had horrible insomnia. I don't even understand how this is on the market. Would never ever take this again."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Infection "I am taking Septra for an infection on the tip of my nose. Day one was horrible. Nausea, fatigue, and vertigo (felt like a flu). That lasted one day. Days 2-7 have been without issues. I take it with a meal and a good 12-16 ounces of fluid. Three days to go, and I expect that will be fine. My infection appeared much better by the 4th day."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "Today is my fourth day on Septra DS, 6 more to go. The first 2 days were the worst. My symptoms included nausea, headaches, lightheadedness/dizziness, and kind of shortness of breath. I was about ready to call my doctor or pharmacist to ask if I should stop the medication, but decided to give it a chance since I really need to get rid of my skin infection. Today, I have not felt those symptoms, so far. Hopefully, it was my body reacting to the new medication. I find Septra DS to be a powerful/strong antibiotic, I’ve never had symptoms like this with any other. After my complete course, I will re-post to inform if it worked on my MRSA."

For Bacterial Infection "My doctor put me on sulfamethoxazole in hopes of clearing up a mild but recurring skin infection under my arms. I was instructed to take 2 pills per day for 2 weeks. My first, second, and third day I felt okay, but the fourth - ninth day (today) I have felt very tired, shaky, and dizzy. When I turn my head a certain way, or lay down, I feel as if I spun in a circle ten times, then stopped. I called today and spoke with a nurse who assured me that I would have had the side effects the first or second day. Well, I know my body, and I don't feel right. So today will be my last day on this."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Sinusitis "This is horrible medication! I was on Bactrim for only 3 days for sinusitis, then on day 4, I had hives and my face was burning from the inside out but no fever. Went off it. Then day 5, 6, and on 7 now, and my jaw aches and my face feels like it’s going to implode. Strangest feeling. I’m dizzy, have a headache, but the facial tightening and burning are making me crazy. This stuff is scary, and I have no idea when it’s going to stop. Never again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL!! I was prescribed for 7 days, 2 times a day. I only made it to day 4, I couldn’t handle the side effects. Literally felt like I was dying, extreme headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, tingling feeling throughout my whole body. Went to the ER the 2nd day of taking it, and the doctor told me those side effects were “normal” and said to keep taking them. By day 4, I couldn’t handle it anymore, I stopped taking them. This is not an antibiotic, it feels like a poison!! Going to doctors next week to get something else. Worst experience EVER!!!!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim for 5 days for UTI and did not feel any relief until day 4. But from day 2, I had side effects like burning pain of the scalp with the slightest touch and dizziness with fast head movements. From day 4 on, I had a fever with chills. Then, a couple of hours after the last dose on day 5, I developed a skin rash of red dots all over my torso, arms, and face, the dots grew larger and also spread to my legs and feet by the end of the night. I had to take prednisone and antihistamine to control the rash and take another antibiotic to treat my UTI that Bactrim only partially treated."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Dr. prescribed for UTI, this almost cost me my life. Migraines, chills, dizziness, chest pain, nausea, indigestion. It was so bad I ended up in the ER with cardiac-type symptoms. Long story short, I ended up having to do a heart cath, which turned out okay. Whatever you do, run the hell away as far as you can from this medication!!!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I've been taking Bactrim since Friday, it's now Sunday. My doctor told me it's a urinary tract infection, but the only symptoms I'm having are the urge to pee with little urine. Vaginal itching that comes and goes with discharge. I'm ready to stop the medicine, but I know I can't. I've missed two doses because the side effects are me feeling dizzy, feeling nauseous, a bad headache, and loss of appetite. I don't know what to do. I feel like if I stop taking it for a possible UTI, it won't go away. But I don't feel it's a UTI 'cause I'm not having burning when I pee, only after I pee, I have an itchy feeling that I want to scratch with tissue, but I know I can't do that either. I really need help, and I hope someone sees this who can give me honest answers. I've been to the health unit and two hospitals, they've all given different results."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Bacterial Skin Infection "Absolutely the worst medication I've ever been on, and I've been on a lot. If an alternative is offered, take the alternative. Intense thirst, super awful anxiety (borderline paranoia), stomachaches and heartburn out the wazoo, night sweats, rash, dizziness, joint pain, loss of appetite were my symptoms (amongst others). Doc switched me to clindamycin. Not a single side effect! Symptoms gradually got better after dropping Bactrim."

For Acne "I've been taking this medication for my acne for less than a month, and all the dark marks and pimples I had on my face are about 90% gone. This medicine is amazing. I take one pill twice a day, the only drawback is the symptoms. I have nausea like never before, loss of appetite, and dizzy spells. The symptoms for me are incredibly strong, but I put up with it because I've tried Epiduo, Retin-A, Proactiv, Neutrogena, doxycycline, clindamycin, but all were way too harsh on my skin or ineffective. Clean and Clear acne wash with aloe vera has worked the absolute best along with this medication. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking to get rid of acne quickly and completely."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this medicine for a UTI, and right after I took my first dose, I felt dizzy and ended up passing out and needing to go to the ER. I would not recommend this medicine because now that I have researched it, I found that a lot of others have had the same experience with it. Try something safer and more well-known."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "First two times I took this, it was a lower dose and worked great for UTI. On a higher dose after standard antibiotics failed, I feel like I'm dying. Fatigue, nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain, just completely wretched all around. So awful I am probably going to simply go celibate as an alternative to risking another stubborn UTI."
