For Urinary Tract Infection "I was having some pretty bad UTI symptoms, so I went to my local urgent care, and they gave me Bactrim. Oh my goodness, worst medication I’ve ever taken! I took only one dose at the urgent care. Went home and later that night, I’d say maybe 3-4 hours in. I was so nauseous. I finally got myself to sleep, only to wake up and vomit my guts out many times. Then I wasn’t able to eat for hours. It’s been about 3 days now since I haven’t taken any medication, and my stomach is still in pain, having nausea, gagging, and not able to eat quite the same. Stay away from this drug. It’s not good. It’s very bad for your stomach. Save yourself."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Asked to be prescribed this because I was prescribed it a year and a half ago for a UTI and did not have any side effects. This time around, where I am only on day two and the symptoms of the UTI have, for the most part, cleared, I have experienced debilitating headaches, constant fatigue, and had some anxiety yesterday morning. Luckily, I have become better with reducing my anxiety, but it does not matter how much water or food I intake, the headaches are just lingering and hover only on one side of my head over my eye. I also experienced a period of nausea so far. I am supposed to be on this for another five days and am hoping I will only need to be on for another few instead. I don't think I can complete the prescription with the borderline migraines I have been getting."

For Kidney Infections "The first two days were fine... I was diagnosed with a kidney infection, and it seemed to work pretty well, despite a little nausea... Day 3 is when all hell broke loose. I started a new job and was running errands. I had left the house, took my medicine, grabbed a water bottle, but didn't have time to eat, what a mistake. Two hours after taking Bactrim, my head felt like it was going to implode. While I was driving on Interstate 95 through northern VA, I had a quick onset of nausea. There was nowhere for me to pull off. I ended up vomiting all over myself. By all over myself, I mean all over myself and my car. It continued and has now been 24 hours. I went to the ER for severe dehydration and am now spending the night at the hospital. Yay!"

For Bacterial Infection "First two days on it, I felt fine. On the 3rd day taking this, I felt so sick to my stomach and unable to sleep. I wasn't sure what was making me so nauseated and dizzy at times, and I then realized it was the Bactrim. I am tossing this down the toilet!"

For Kidney Infections "I'm on day 5 taking Bactrim for my kidney infection, and I feel just fine. I felt a little nauseous with the first pill, but it wasn't bad. I take the morning dose on an empty stomach and more than half a bottle of water. I still get kidney pains here and there, though. I hope it's working."

For Prevention of Bladder infection "I was having symptoms of a UTI for a few weeks, so I finally went to the ER when the pain got worse. They gave me Bactrim. Two days after taking it (twice a day), I got flu symptoms/a cold. Today is my fifth day on it, and I feel awful, shortness of breath, so, so tired, and I feel so nauseous. And I'm still having pain when I use the bathroom, so I don't even think it's working. Going to call the doctor tomorrow, I won't be continuing this medicine."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Been taking this medication for 4 days. Been a bit nauseated. But laying down a few minutes and rinsing my face with water has helped. It is working, though. UTI is basically gone. 1 more day to go. I'd say find substitutes for side effects. Drink more water, get more sleep. Your body is fighting an infection. It's bound to go out of whack. I guess the pros were worth the cons."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "When I was 15, I learned that I was allergic to Bactrim. Eleven years later, the doctor prescribed me this medication, stating that our allergies change. I was nervous to take this medicine, but I was so sick with an ear infection that I decided to give it a try. The worst experience of my life. I only took two pills, one in the morning and one before bed. I was up from 12 am to 6 am, non-stop puking. I could not hold anything down. At first, I thought I had the flu, as every bone in my body was in pain... After a few hours of sleep and not taking this Rx, I then realized I am still extremely allergic to this medication. I would never want someone to go through what I went through. I have not taken this medication since yesterday, and I have not puked."

For Acne "I am 36, and I was given tetracycline a couple of years ago, it made me nauseous but only for an hour or so, then I’d be back to my normal self. Tetracycline worked wonders for my skin, but unfortunately, I became resistant to it a few months ago. I also tried minocycline, which was ineffective. I’ve been having a really bad breakout since discontinuing the tetracycline. Recently went on Bactrim, I’ve been on this for about 3 days, and wow, let me tell you, I feel real shitty. The body aches are painful, the nausea really comes and goes all throughout the day, no rash, which is a good sign, but if this feeling doesn’t simmer down, I won’t be able to continue this. It doesn’t look like there is any real solution for acne out there, my self-esteem is so low, and I feel helpless. I’m so scared to try Accutane due to the hair loss reviews... that terrifies me. I can tell how horrible I feel from the Bactrim that I won’t last on this for much longer!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I started Bactrim DS/Septra DS. I took 1 tablet on a Wednesday too late in the day to take a second. I was fine until Saturday, then the nausea started, which is horrible. I just hope I don't have any other reactions."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’d taken this drug for a UTI about a year ago and remember feeling nauseous and dizzy, but not bad enough to call the doctor. Got two doses into this round, and 10 minutes after taking the second, my hands and feet itched unbearably, my lips felt swollen, I was dizzy, my heart was racing, and I was getting chills and hot flashes. I ended up in the ER and was pumped full of steroids and Benadryl. 9 hours now since my symptoms started, and my heart is still racing. Full-blown sulfa allergy."

For Sinusitis "I literally took 3 pills and had to stop. I was worried it was a stomach virus, but nope, it was Bactrim. I’m not sensitive to antibiotics, but this was horrible. I threw up and felt nauseous about 12 hours after the third pill."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Ugh... horrible! Couldn't even get through day 2. Headache, extreme nausea, and headache. This will sound weird, but my face felt 'wind burned.' I hope this feeling will soon be over. Not a good idea to Google symptoms either lol... good luck :) wish I had a better experience."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 5 days of Bactrim DS for a small cyst that has popped. It’s like using a nuclear bomb to level a shed. I’ve had nausea, lightheadedness, ringing in my ears, and diarrhea. General unease where you know you feel like crap, but you can’t wholly articulate it. I made sure to eat and drink water before dosing, but it barely helped. I need to take two more pills, but I don’t know if my body can take it."

For Sinusitis "Don’t do it!!! I was feeling okay before taking it. Heck, I was running 2 miles a day before. No issues with other than my sinus being inflamed and closed. On day 2, I started getting nauseated. Day 3, 4, and 6, I went to the ER. Dire pain, blood in urine. Chest pain that prevented sleeping, radiating to my back. Bloating, gas, regurgitation, constipation. But worst of all, I couldn’t eat. I got really weak and honestly didn’t think I was going to make it. I spent days in bed not moving due to the pain. I got a small rash day 5 on my arms. On day 6 of 14, I stopped the medication. Symptoms improved almost immediately. Still have chest pain but getting better."

For Sinusitis "A lot of people mentioning vomiting and nausea. Be aware that you cannot drink ANY alcohol while on Bactrim. It can make you vomit or cause nausea. It’s very effective for certain UTIs depending on the strain of bacteria. Told this by my pharmacist and doctor. Unsure about sinus, but I’m trying that now."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Been on Bactrim before, and it worked, but had been on a daily low dose antibiotic since Keflex 11/17. Then, 3 weeks ago, another UTI, so was put on Cipro after culture, last dose Friday. Urine still cloudy with a foul odor. Sick Saturday. Yesterday, went to the ER as had a migraine, nausea, and fever. They did a computed tomography of kidneys, ureters, and bladder (CT KUB) scan and sent me home on 3 weeks of this antibiotic. In pain today with fever, so took Tylenol. I am alone and don't know what to do. My doctor's office may be closed as I can’t figure out what’s going on with their phone lines."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed a 10-day supply of Bactrim DS for finger lesions infected with staph. Within 2 days, I noticed that the infection started to heal. I also immediately experienced side effects of nausea, diarrhea, and heart palpitations. My doctor ordered me to have an echocardiogram/heart monitor as a result of irregularities she saw on my EKG while taking Bactrim. At the end of the 10-day supply, the infection had not cleared completely, and I was given a second round. After starting the second round, I broke out into a rash that covered my entire body. I had to have a shot of Prednisone and take an additional 6 days. It has been more than a month since I took the last dose of Bactrim, and I still am dealing with the original infection as well as being treated for chronic hives. I have not had heart palpitations since stopping the medication."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "This medication is no joke! Can't hardly eat nor enjoy anything. I'm lucky to eat one cracker and drink water, and even then, I never know if I will be able to hold it down. Vomiting and nausea are expected, but body aches, flu symptoms, sore throat, migraine headaches, and not getting a lot of sleep are not comfortable. Asked my doctor if she can switch me off this medication, but he was firm and stated I have to take it all. I'm on my second week and won't be done until my third week. It's brutal and hard to deal with. I don't see any results nor improvement for my condition either."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I had a very widespread bacterial infection all over my legs, and it spread to my arms thanks to a misdiagnosis at the first clinic I went to, but I was prescribed Bactrim from the second clinic. My rash has cleared up a lot, and I've noticed a big change, but the debilitating nausea, cold sweats, and stomach aches are the worst. It will come and go in waves, and it will wake me up in the middle of the night. I have eaten a lot when taking this, and I drink a lot of water, but every time I take this, I have to take an Advil because the stomach pain is just unbearable. Every time the painkiller wears off, I feel like I'm dying. The result of the rash going away is worth it, but the pain and nausea is NOT."

For Acne "I started taking this medicine about 3 months ago once a day. I’ve always taken it after food and with a full cup of water. It started to make me nauseous until I got so sick I was puking and on the toilet for two days (I haven’t ever been so sick for so long). My stomach is still messed up, and I haven’t taken it for about a week. And it didn’t get rid of my acne."

For Acne "I’m about a month into taking this medicine, Bactrim, and it is working for my face. The redness is going away, and the pimples that do form are smaller and less severe. The downside is I am having horrible side effects like nausea and diarrhea, and I am being taken off the drug immediately. If you are experiencing side effects, call your doctor. This drug is brutal, and if you don’t drink enough water constantly, it will get the best of you. Don’t recommend this. Beneficial or not, health comes first."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've been on it for 3 out of 7 days, and these are my side effects: itchy skin, migraines, joint pain, muscle pain, horrible neck pain, nausea, eye irritation, pinpoint red spots on skin, trouble sleeping, random bruising, vaginal itching, swollen glands. I've been taking leftover prescription ibuprofen to tackle the joint, muscle, and head pains, but if it wears off, I am writhing in pain. This medication, though it seems to be working on the UTI, has given me so many torturous side effects, I will never use it again. As an aside, I am allergic to amoxicillin. Obviously, talk to your doctor about meds, but I'd personally suggest being cautious about getting this med prescribed to you if you've never taken it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was prescribed a seven-day treatment for a UTI. On day two, and the nausea is almost unbearable, and I have a burning itch in my eyes and extremities (eyes are also weeping). Discontinuing the med and returning to the doctor because I can’t handle the nausea, and I don’t want the rash to get worse."
