For Urinary Tract Infection "I took one pill in the evening and another the following morning. I developed extreme stomach pain by noon, which moved to my back, followed by an excruciating headache. I was nauseous but sipped tiny amounts of water to prevent dehydration. I was very weak for two days, my hands trembled. Horrible experience."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a bad UTI, and I have taken this in the past, and I am now taking it again. I get 4-7 days depending on the doctor. It almost always clears it up. If you don't eat like I do, then you can get nauseated if you take it on an empty stomach. The pill is huge, so I chew it and use a spoon of yogurt and eat it down like that. I wish they made chewable versions or coated versions, as it's hard to take, but I do take it! The pill is a miracle worker and helps me greatly."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Only took the medication for 5 days, had read about it online after being prescribed it and got really worried at all the awful side effects. I experienced nausea and headaches and slight itchiness while on it and was glad to finally get off of it. It is my 3rd day off of it and the itching has gotten worse and all over now. I only have a few tiny reddish bumps, though, and I am experiencing anxiety on and off randomly and just feel weird and have also caught a cold (sore throat/cough). Will never take this medication ever again and I severely advise against it."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "So I had taken Bactrim before for a UTI, and it was great, it cleared it up, and I didn’t have any side effects. This time I'm on it for an abscess, and it's a whole different story. About 3 or 4 days in, I couldn’t keep any food down and had EXTREME nausea and vomiting. Another 2 days go by, and I can’t even keep down water or pills. I sleep maybe 3 or 4 hours a night and have a terrible headache for like a week. I go to the doctor yesterday, and she tells me I have to keep taking them. I’m still dying."

For Sinusitis "Started meds on Monday. My arms and legs hurt terribly Tuesday and Wednesday. The headache has been the worst I have ever had. Chills, sweating, nausea, impaired vision, insomnia. I called the doctor's office Wednesday afternoon, and the nurse told me to give it a few more days. Went to a different doctor on Saturday, and he said Bactrim is notorious for headaches and other adverse effects. Off of it now and have to wait 24 hours before I can start a new antibiotic. I'm praying this headache ends soon."

For Urinary Tract Infection "The first day, I experienced some nausea. Now? I have a sore in my mouth that popped up out of nowhere, and one side of my bottom lip is swollen. I'm so sick that I can't eat anything and have zero appetite. I keep getting the shakes and chills that weren't there before starting it. I suffer from anxiety, and anxiety is a common side effect of this medication - so now my anxiety is through the roof, and it's also caused severe insomnia. I'm constipated, have terrible muscle spasms and cramps in my legs. I've never had an issue with a sulfa drug before, but after this, I will definitely not take one ever again. It's not worth the side effects/allergic reaction."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I got a skin infection from a spider bite, so prescribed Bactrim. Relatively mild side effects except for sometimes feeling stoned. After my last dose (after 10 days), I experienced the worst side effects, I felt high, nauseous, exhausted, depressed, overly worried, my urination speed decreased, my urine was unusually dark despite drinking tons of water, I had chest pains, a cough (note, I also have asthma), a severe headache that lasted over one day, and I felt sick in general. Never taking this again, at this point, it's unbearable, and there's nothing more I can do right now other than wait it out."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I would not recommend this to anyone. I have had bleeding in my urine for over two weeks, and the doctors associated it with a UTI. After being given Macrobid, and symptoms persisting, they gave me Septa. I took it for two days, twice a day with food, was fine. On the third day, not so much. I began shaking uncontrollably, dry mouth, I was incoherent to the point I couldn't even understand what people were saying to me, my heart was racing, I was dizzy, and extremely nauseous. It literally felt like I had been roofied (drugged up). I don't even remember half the night, and I had horrible insomnia. I don't even understand how this is on the market. Would never ever take this again."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Bactrim DS cleared up my infected finger, just like most antibiotics do. The difference is in the side effects. The nausea and diarrhea are worse on this one. But the biggest problem was that my depression, which I had under control with medication, became worse than ever overnight. I don't know whether it interfered with my antidepressant (bupropion XL) or just aggravated the symptoms so much that it was uncontrollable. Either way, I spent a week alternating between despair and rage on a hair trigger. I would not try this again."

For Sinusitis "I took this for four and a half days. I experienced complete appetite loss, nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, and anxiety. I had blood work done before I took the Bactrim, and when I got my results back, it turned out I didn't have a bacterial infection at all. All that for nothing. I still haven't completely recovered my appetite, and it has been almost a week since my last dose."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a mild UTI. I went to the urgent care and was given Bactrim. I took one evening dose around 6 pm and one morning dose around 6 am. At around 10 am, I developed a severe migraine. I left work around 12:30 pm, got home from work around 1:00 pm, and by 2:00 I was violently throwing up. I was in the bathroom for about 3 hours - I fell asleep slumped over the toilet. I felt queasy the rest of the day as well as the following two days. For the record, I have never thrown up from a migraine before, and I am not someone who throws up a lot (last time I threw up was 4-5 years prior due to food poisoning, and I threw up just once that time. The time before that was about 10 years prior to the food poisoning due to stomach flu). Even though it seemed to work, I will never take Bactrim again unless it is the only antibiotic option for something that will kill me otherwise. I felt HORRIBLE."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have been taking Bactrim now for about a week and a half for a UTI and MRSA. I am sure it's working because the kidney pain has subsided, however, the nausea is so crucial it's like the worst nausea I've ever had in my life. Not to mention headache and chills. Ugh, I don't know if it's worth it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Having a horrible experience on Bactrim. This antibiotic should come with a warning label. Urinary symptoms have not been relieved yet (going on 3rd day). Experiencing severe nausea and diarrhea. Zofran helps somewhat. I don't know that I can continue this medication for 3 more days."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I have a large swollen infection believed to be a staph infection. This medicine is working well, but on day 2, I am so nauseous, even after taking Zofran 8 mg. I cannot bear the thought of swallowing it or anything else. I've taken this before and did not get this effect. I have many other health issues at the time, but I was shocked I reacted this way."

For Bacterial Infection "Prescribed Bactrim after I got bit by a black widow spider. 36 hrs after the bite, my skin was red, swollen, and a red streak was tracking up my arm towards my armpit. Given Bactrim to prevent worsening cellulitis (further infection). No issues until I took a morning dose, 4th day, after only having coffee. Felt queasy and an hour later, had cramps, bowel motion. Thought I needed to eat. Ate half an avocado and 15 mins later, vomited till my stomach felt empty. Only took about 8 heaves but rested my gut for a few hours and kept down fish, egg, and avocado. Next dose about 10:30 pm, and I'm eating first!"

For Kidney Infections "I started taking Bactrim 2 days ago for a bladder infection, and it is terrible because I feel like I have the flu... body aches, headache, nausea... I just called the doctor to tell her I'm not taking any more. The bladder infection is nothing compared to the way this med made me feel!!! It seems like it has been cut with some sort of poison before it gets to the US!!! I just hope I regain strength because I feel so weak from the pain my body has been through!!!"

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim DS for an infected callus between my toes. I am diabetic and take Tramadol for fibromyalgia and take extra potassium. All three were listed as serious drug interactions, but the pharmacist assured me I would be okay. Three days in, I was miserable. Headaches, exhaustion, nausea, and loss of appetite. And no, my urine didn't change to orange. And I drank lots of water too. I finally had to discontinue it."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I developed a painful staph infection in my nose after a really nasty cold. Bactrim DS cleared it up quickly, but it was harsh on my body. The worst side effect that I had was extreme fatigue. Even walking around the house left me dizzy, out of breath, and shaking with exhaustion. Luckily, I had the sick days to take off work because I don't think I could have done it. I also had nausea and insomnia, but that was mostly just inconvenient. The exhaustion, though, was debilitating. I finished the entire 10-course because the staph infection was painful, and my nose was bright red and swollen. I was scared not to finish the meds. I would definitely ask for something else next time, though."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim didn’t really work for me, it stopped the blood in my urine, but I don’t feel like it killed the infection (E. coli) because I still go pee a lot, especially during the night (which makes me sleep only about 3 hours), and it takes me about 10+ seconds to start. The only side effects I experienced were nausea, insomnia, and headaches. Wouldn’t recommend this drug."

For Kidney Infections "Day two, second dose put me out all day. Migraine, pulsating, throbbing headache was so bad. Threw up twice, which caused me to fall down from the immense pain in my head. It was amplified by vomiting. I'm afraid to take another pill as it just calmed down after 10 hours of torture."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Been on Bactrim DS due to a skin infection after surgery. I take 2 a day, 12 hours apart. It is helping a whole lot, but I am so tired and weak. When I eat, it makes me want to vomit. Will be so glad when the script is gone!"

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 10 days. The first day was okay, by the 2nd day, I had a bad case of nausea and itchiness. On the 3rd day, nausea, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, and feeling cold along with insomnia. I stopped taking it and gradually I'm feeling like myself. I continued Keflex until the infection healed. I won't take it again. It's not worth the misery, in my opinion."

For Sinusitis "I was given Bactrim DS for an ear and sinus infection. I had never been given this antibiotic, but have also never had issues with any antibiotic, so I didn’t have any concerns. I ate dinner, then immediately took my first pill. Within 2 hours of taking it, I could visibly see the bloating in my stomach with some mild stomach discomfort. 2 hours after that, the severe nausea set in. The nausea was HORRIBLE!! Then the diarrhea started, which was awful. I did throw up one time, but I think that was induced by drinking too much water. I was afraid I was going to dehydrate. I also experienced terrible heart palpitations and weakness. The terrible side effects only lasted about 6 hours. I’m a little over 24 hours from all this, and I feel much better, but my stomach still isn’t right and I just have an overall feeling of weakness. The doctor told me to immediately stop the antibiotic, which was the only option for me. She said it sounded like I had a sulfate intolerance."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I am on my second day of Bactrim DS, and about halfway through the day today, I started feeling nauseous and sweaty while I was driving. After not even 2 minutes of having these symptoms, I vomited all over my car multiple times! I have been sweating with goosebumps and chills since my first dose. I will never take this medication again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was having some pretty bad UTI symptoms, so I went to my local urgent care, and they gave me Bactrim. Oh my goodness, worst medication I’ve ever taken! I took only one dose at the urgent care. Went home and later that night, I’d say maybe 3-4 hours in. I was so nauseous. I finally got myself to sleep, only to wake up and vomit my guts out many times. Then I wasn’t able to eat for hours. It’s been about 3 days now since I haven’t taken any medication, and my stomach is still in pain, having nausea, gagging, and not able to eat quite the same. Stay away from this drug. It’s not good. It’s very bad for your stomach. Save yourself."
