Salmeterol for Bronchospasm Prophylaxis "I have had asthma since very young. Until I started using Serevent, I had some type of bronchitis or pneumonia every 2 months and was constantly on antibiotics. Since using Serevent regularly, I may have one episode a year of bronchitis, upper respiratory issues, or pneumonia. To me, Serevent has been a lifesaver and life changer. Just wish they would come out with a generic."

Salmeterol for Asthma, Maintenance "I used Serevent with great results. It provided excellent relief. On my previous insurance, it was a Tier 3, so it was affordable. I went on Medicare in 2023 and had to stop using it because it was Tier 5, making it unaffordable."

For COPD, Maintenance "I have had mild asthma from being a child, however, due to smoking, I now have both asthma and COPD. I have always struggled with beta-2 agonists like albuterol or terbutaline because they caused a lot of side effects for me, such as palpitations, tremors, and nervousness. I relied heavily on ipratropium (Atrovent) and inhaled beclomethasone before trying salmeterol. This is a great drug because it prevents wheezing, tightness, coughing, and breathlessness without causing any side effects. I take it before going out of the house on errands or physical activity, and in combination with the steroid, I now rarely need to use ipratropium as a rescue medication. I have tried both the powdered form and the MDI, and I can definitely say the MDI is better."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Do not take an overdose on this medication. Even just a few puffs left me shaking vigorously, feeling dizzy, and heavily belching. Not only that, but it caused me to pass out. Furthermore, weeks later, you are still not right, and you will be more sensitive to light."

Salmeterol for COPD, Maintenance "So I was on a private insurance through my employer. And Serevent was still kinda expensive. So I thought it couldn't make that much of a difference. I had a lung aspiration where I could hardly breathe, ''SCARED ME TO DEATH.'' So I let the EMT and hospital know I was only taking the other Diskus as I had 2 to use. Anyways, that scared me enough (not being able to breathe) I immediately went and purchased the Serevent! It was like night and day! I can breathe now, I haven't had any more problems with breathing, I have a lot more energy. Simply, my health and breathing have been wonderful for almost 3 years! Now, I'm scared again, I retired now OHP will not cover Serevent, I'm just hoping my doctor can find an alternative that works as well as Serevent! I feel it literally saved my life..."
