For Urinary Frequency "I've been receiving Botox every 4 months for severe OAB for the past 10 years. Without it, I need heavy incontinence pads or adult diapers. With it, I only experience an occasional small accident about 2 weeks before treatment and need no pads at all. It completely changed my quality of life for the better."

For Cervical Dystonia "In 2000, I was diagnosed with cervical dystonia. I received my first series of Botox injections in October 2001, and right away I could tell it was a great relief. In 2004, I started having difficulty with more head tremors. I started on a low dose of Klonopin at just 0.5 mg as needed. It keeps my head pretty stable without the tremors, and I can attend events, etc., and feel pretty confident. I would like to recommend a wonderful organization that I joined in the beginning that really provided a lot of useful information. The National Spasmodic Torticollis Association has a yearly weekend symposium where they have noted speakers and doctors talking on dystonia and the newest breakthroughs. I went to one that was held out here on the East Coast close to my home, and it was very informative and encouraging to meet others with the same disorder. Don't ever give up! Good luck, and God bless."

For Urinary Frequency "I had Botox bladder injections just over a week ago and wished I'd never let them anywhere near me. I suffer from severe overactive bladder disorder, interstitial cystitis, and have done all of my adult life. I thought, prayed this would be the answer. A week on and I'm in so much distress and discomfort and at my wit's end. God only knows if it's such early days what else is to come. I'm being treated for UTI even though the test showed negative, but it was worth a try. On reading the posts on here, it seems I'm not alone. I'm hopefully seeing my doctor tomorrow but not really sure what they're going to do. I am so fed up, but it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one. This condition is a curse that no one can understand unless they've lived with it."

For Urinary Frequency "My brother had Botox done last year for bladder problems with MS. It has been the worst year since being diagnosed 20 years ago. He wasn't told he would need to use a catheter, and he has severe vision problems. He has had constant UTIs, terrible pain from using catheters, and developed hemorrhoids after having Botox done. Now Botox has worn off, and he still needs catheters and is in pain. He has been told he'll need to have more Botox so he won't feel the pain. Complete disaster and very costly trips to specialists."

For Migraine Prevention "I've had classic migraines for 35 years. I've tried many medications. Many times I've had to go to the ER for acute relief. The past few years, they have reduced, but I still battle with them. I just had Botox injections for the first time, it has only been one week. The injections were not too bad, most I barely felt, but a few, ouch! This week I've had three sinus-type migraines, and I am not pleased. I had a lot of swelling on my forehead, and my eyelids swelled to the point I could see the skin in my daily vision. My neck got stiff, but not bad. I got the injections on my forehead and temples only. I am still suffering for over 28 hours with my third headache. Botox did not agree with me."

For Migraine Prevention "1st Botox shots 11/2015. Wasn't able to get another tx until 10 days ago. The 1st time it was great! Migraines down to about 2/mo. Loved it! This time the day after I woke with the back of my neck very painful. Worse was pain in the back of my head. Felt like hit with a 2x4. Very bad headache too. It was horrible. I get pain medication for other issues, and it did nothing. Head swollen, tight glasses. Some pain in my left shoulder down my arm. It lasted 5 days, in bed with a heating pad. 7th day worst pain gone but need hand under chin or on back of head to control head movement due to weak neck. Don't wake with neck pain, but it starts after moving a bit. If I'm on my feet, dizzy. Weak jaws when eating or drinking. Head turns only 2 inches to left or right side. Weak upper arms. Never again."

For Urinary Frequency "I just had another round of Botox injections three days ago. While I did get a UTI from the procedure and it was a bit difficult to void the first two days, I am 100% now. I even went to work the following day. I also had this procedure in March of 2015. That one didn't go so well in the beginning, but I think it was because I was in an interstitial cystitis flare. If you have it, I feel your pain. After my flare calmed down, I noticed the Botox actually worked really well. This time I made sure I was not in a flare before Botox, and all is good. This is a last line of treatment for me, and at just 31 years old, I'm so glad I have found it. It is not a lifelong fix, it will most likely require treatment every three months to a year. Everyone is different."

For Urinary Frequency "I had the Botox in October 2018 for an overactive bladder. I got told I could go into retention for a few days. This was the worst decision of my life. Three days after the procedure, I couldn’t pee, I was in agony, so I got taken to A&E. I was admitted and was in for 13 days. I had an infection and was in retention fully, had a fullness feeling, and was in chronic pain. I got discharged with catheters, and I was so sore using the catheters I couldn’t use them. So, I ended up back to A&E, admitted again another 5 days with an indwelling catheter in this time. Then came home, and 3 days later the catheter got blocked, the pain was that bad I couldn’t walk, sit, stand, or anything. I was sick, so back again to A&E, admitted again. It’s now the middle of January, and I’m no better. I’m still using catheters. I've got the fullness feeling and can’t get on with my life. I don’t get any feeling of needing a wee. All I can say is please look into it properly before deciding to have this. It is not worth it at all!!!!"

For Urinary Frequency "First had Botox injections in March of 2016. Doctor stated it would last six to nine months. Lasted 13 months and no side effects. Last week had my second injection as an outpatient. Took about five days to have me back to normal. Best choice I made for my OAB. No problems at this time and hoping it lasts at least nine months."

For Urinary Frequency "I used to pee about hourly and about 5-6 times a night. Botox suggested. Had Botox and ended on the toilet every 5-10 minutes. Warned to expect frequency. Hours later, crippled in pain from continual peeing, then had blood in urine. Had an ultrasound of the bladder to measure residual urine, which showed 60 ml residual after peeing. My bladder holds 50-70 ml. Needed a catheter to give me some rest. Went home with an indwelling catheter. No antibiotics before or after Botox. Two weeks later, now 2-3 bags of blood each day in the bag. No visibility in the bag due to blood and stringy clots for 4 days in a row. Told nothing to worry about at the local hospital, antibiotics injected and got tablets for bladder infection. Wishing I was never pushed to try Botox by the urologist. Returning to remove the catheter for 1 day in a few days, to see if successful and teach self-cathing. This means toileting 15 minutes - 1/2 hour and 1-2 hours at night with self-cathing. Would not recommend Botox for bladder issues requiring bladder surgery."

For Migraine Prevention "In 2004, I began to have migraines, which grew progressively worse over time. After years of daily bouts with migraines that were at a 7 out of 10 on good days (not to mention that I couldn't take triptans because they gave me chest pains), my local VA began offering this new treatment called Botox, and I was approved for it. I'm not 'cured' by any means, but my life somewhat resembles a life now for a few hours a week. My good days are few, but I am grateful for what I can get. I still get horrible migraines, but I'll take several migraines per week vs. several per day. It reminds me not to waste my time when I have it; I try to get stuff done. So I say to anyone, give it a try. It may or may not work for you, but you should at least give it a go."

For Urinary Frequency "I had Botox in my bladder 10 days ago, and it has only made my bladder worse. Instead of going to the toilet every 20 minutes, I'm now going every 5! I'm not sleeping and have had a really bad urine infection! I was back in the hospital on Sunday! I would not recommend anyone getting this done. I have suffered with bladder problems for 17 years and am getting really down about it all now! I have no idea what to do now."

For Urinary Frequency "I'm on my 3rd dose of Botox. I have bladder incontinence. My bladder was in a constant spasm. It was hard to leave the house. After trying pills, after trying Depends, after having a few accidents, I agreed to the Botox injections. I found the procedure uncomfortable, but maybe for 5 minutes. It took most of the first year to get used to using a cath as a norm. You can get reusable ones or pre-lubricated ones. I now use the latter, but they are more expensive. The first round lasted 1 year, the second round lasted 6 months, and now I'm on my third round. More Botox was used in the first and third rounds. I love it. No more leaks, no more accidents. I can sleep all night, take long walks, and go on long car rides."

For Migraine Prevention "For the first time in 50 years, I have relief from migraines since using Botox. I have a life now. I can make plans. For the first 4-5 days after Botox, I hurt from the injections, my neck hurts, but then I feel great for almost 3 months. It's not 100% as I still get migraines, but they come less frequently and last for a shorter time. I would tell people that it's worth trying. A little bit of pain for 12 weeks, almost pain-free. I love it. It has changed my life."

For Migraine Prevention "I am finished with Botox!!! The first round of 30 shots was hell afterwards! I had migraines/chronic neck pain/headaches for a month. Then I had three weeks of no migraines/headaches/neck pain. I thought I died and went to heaven. And then it all came back. Honestly, I was actually dreading the second round of Botox, but I knew I had to give it one more chance. The second round was worse!!! I wake up with what feels like a vice on my neck. Immediately, I had 23 days of migraines/severe headaches straight. There is no way to explain what it feels like to lay in bed with the lights off, no sound or very faint, and being in your head feeling so alone. Luckily, I have had no migraines for three weeks now, but horrible headaches and a very painful neck. Migraines are the most misunderstood, complicated illnesses, both for the person who has them and secondary to that is the understanding from friends and family members. It really wears me down when I have these every day."

For Migraine Prevention "I had Botox May 25, 2017, for migraines. Woke up the next day with severe neck pain. It's Sept 3, 2017, and my neck is still hurting. I can't look down, turn my neck, read, clean my own house. I'm spending most of the day in bed. My life is ruined due to Botox for migraines. I've had so many problems, and I never was told about this side effect. It is not worth the risk. I wish I had known about this. The pain is horrible!"

For Urinary Frequency "My husband had prostate surgery (TURP) for an enlarged prostate in January (11 months ago). Ever since, he has had annoying leakage. The doctor mentioned two options - Botox or an implanted device. He said Botox had a '99% success rate,' so my husband opted for that. Ever since, a nightmare. At first, he simply could not pee at all. He had an indwelling catheter for a while, and since has had to do self-catheterization four times a day (still cannot pee a drop). The Botox must have relaxed the bladder too much? Plus, there was a LOT of old blood in his bladder, presumably from the Botox injections. The doctor said it was not possible to be from the catheters. And he has a UTI. The slight leakage seems like NOTHING next to this nightmare."

For Migraine Prevention "I did not have a good result with Botox for migraines. It gave me more pain and headaches that lasted for the most part of one month. Pain in shoulders and neck, a tight feeling across the forehead like a band-aid being pulled very tight. Horrible extreme headache that would come and go. One morning, about 2 weeks later, I woke up alarmed because the pain in my forehead had radiated to my face. Very tight feeling and pulling across my cheekbones. I would never do this again - it did not help my headaches."

For Urinary Frequency "I had a Botox injection into my bladder on June 21st, and last year for four days I was fine, and it felt funny not having pee running down my legs. Then, a couple of days later, I broke out really bad with a rash all over my body, and I was very sick, and I went into the emergency room at two different hospitals. I had a hard time breathing, was sick to my stomach, and I could no longer urinate and had to use catheters for two weeks, and I had to be put on one and a half worth of steroid pills and injections. I almost died from not having anyone explain to me more about the dangers. I am not still feeling like I was before the Botox. I had one injection that almost killed me. You will not submit because you don't want other patients to know the truth about what happened to me. But I will make sure that the media will know and inform the public as to what Botox can and will do to some women like me."

For Urinary Incontinence "I was visiting the toilet about 20 times through the day and night, so I was put forward for Botox injections in my bladder. I was told there was an 85% success rate and 15% of people had problems. I joked, well, someone has to be in the 15%, i.e., me. But unfortunately, the joke backfired as I'm now still constantly getting the urge to pass water but can't without using a catheter, which can be up to ten times a day. I'm holding on as much as I can, but the urge to urinate just gets stronger. I was told this should subside after a few weeks, but I'm very doubtful it will. Before the procedure, I could urinate without the catheter, but since the procedure, not a drop of urine without using a catheter. I feel let down, and the 85% to 15% ratio is so people will go ahead and have it done. I would advise against having the procedure, but I hope I am proven wrong."

For Cervical Dystonia "This is probably the best solution to cervical dystonia out there, other than physical therapy. While it didn't take all my pain away, my headaches subsided tremendously! I highly recommend getting this done. It is only needed every 3 to 4 months, and the injections aren't too painful to sit through."

For Urinary Frequency "I'm shocked to hear how disappointed everyone is with Botox, and I'm sad too. I completely understand the frustration, embarrassment, and all-around annoyance of peeing yourself. I started having Botox when I was 33 (I have MS). I had to start catheterizing after my 2nd lot of Botox. This was the end of the world to me, 33 and having to use a catheter. Now, I think Botox is a huge benefit to my life, and using a catheter is the norm. Obviously, everyone has different experiences, but I love it x."

For Urinary Frequency "I had Botox for my overactive bladder, and I must say it is a miracle. 100% effective. Zero side effects. After almost 20 years of worsening incontinence, one treatment restored me to normal control, like when I was a teenager. The procedure is a little painful, but totally worth it. I’m 71 years old. Medicare covered it. I tried acupuncture in the ankle prior to this as a treatment, it was 100% ineffective."

For Urinary Frequency "I had Botox injections into my bladder about 3 weeks ago, but it has made no difference to my OAB so far. The procedure itself is quite uncomfortable, and I actually felt my symptoms were worse the week after I had it done. I know it takes two weeks to take effect, so I was really hoping to see a difference, as the constant need to go to the toilet is so stressful. But unfortunately, 3 weeks in, and I don't see much, if any, difference. I do seem to be able to go longer through the night, but daytime is no better. I've had no other side effects, so I don't regret trying, just wish it would work!"
