"The AREDS 2 I have been taking for over a month now. I do not have any eye problems except for a slight cataract in one eye. I’m basically taking it as a precautionary measure. I have found that in general my vision has improved some and my eyes are not red in the morning. The cap is easy to swallow, and I take it with a full glass of water. I have to time it perfectly as to the timing of any dairy, antacids, and calcium consumption. I feel that it is doing good!"

"I became nauseous within ten minutes of taking these. I experienced severe bloating. I drank water slowly, as well as sparkling water, hoping to tamp down the nausea. I laid down for ten minutes but needed to race to the bathroom with terrible diarrhea, followed by four vomiting episodes a few minutes later. This all came on within 30 minutes of taking these caplets with food and water. Ninety minutes later and I still have stomach aches, bloating, diarrhea. I took two at the same time. That could be the reason I’m so ill, but I will report this to my doctor and never take them again. Whether these are effective, I’ll never know."

"I was told to take this for my AMD and have had horrible nausea, heartburn, constipation, muscle problems. I had no idea it could have been caused by the PreserVision! I will immediately stop taking them, as I haven’t felt well since the day I started taking them! Hope I don’t go blind but can’t continue feeling like this!"

"I have been taking this medication for about 3 weeks. I like to read, and that is getting bad. My vision is blurred, making it impossible to do even with my reading glasses, which I don't always use. This stuff is junk, it affects my sleep and my daily activities. I am tired all the time."

"Have been taking AREDS2 for over three years. One pill twice a day with a meal. My left eye is wet AMD, and the doctor told me, and what I read was that AREDS2 will not help wet AMD. My right eye is dry and has remained dry with these pills. Never had any bad side effects, but I follow the directions too. Very pleased."

"I took my first dose an hour ago, felt nauseous within 30 minutes and was vomiting ten minutes later. I have vomited five times in the first hour. It was scary because the gel cap and its contents are red, so my first thought was that I was vomiting blood (I wasn’t). Now I am sitting here wondering when this will end and whether or not I should be trying to drink lots of water to flush it out of my system or encourage more vomiting to get it all out. The level of vitamin E is no higher than vitamin E doses that I have taken in the past. It could be the night dose of zinc, or maybe just a reaction to the marigold or other ingredient in their product. I am also wishing I hadn’t bought the 210 count bottle. It’s only 7 pm, but it feels like this is going to be a long night. Hoping the nausea passes soon."

"I took these vitamins for about a week and experienced ongoing dizziness. Since I bought two bottles, I tried to take them again and was unsuccessful, more dizziness. I switched to Walmart brand, and there has been no dizziness, however, sometimes I get headaches, fatigue, and have gained some weight after taking them for about a year. Then I decided that because the AREDS2 study mentioned that the body only absorbs 25 mg of zinc from these daily pills, I purchased another brand that sells its formula exactly as the PreserVision one except for the zinc, only 25 mg per day. Feeling much better. Also, need to watch my sugar intake, it seems to be much worse since I’ve been taking these vitamins."

"I have been taking lutein for years. No problem. These were suggested to me, and I take them after eating. Noticed feeling nauseous after taking. Last 2 days, vomiting after I take them. Thanks for this service because these reviews have confirmed my suspicions. No more for me."

"I have been taking 2 pills a day for one year. I have had severe muscle weakness, and I didn't think it was from the pills until I was reordering online at CVS and I happened to read someone's side effect, which mimics mine. I immediately stopped taking them three days ago. I am hoping to regain my muscular strength. I don't advise anyone to take this. Serious side effects."

"I was taking 25 mg JANUVIA (for blood sugar). It is a small amount, but I verified on the second day that my sugar was high, 195, and no food. I think Centrum Silver interacts with the Januvia. Be very careful if you are taking pills for sugar or blood pressure."

"Recent blood test during physical revealed high iron levels in my blood test. My research tells me that the vast majority of postmenopausal women don't need extra iron. This vitamin supplement in Dallas, TX, United States (DFW-Dallas-Fort Worth Intl.) marketed to women over 50. My Dr. advised me to stop taking any vitamin supplement that contains iron. I plan to switch back to One A Day /50, which has no iron in it."

"I took this for macular degeneration, and I would feel awful after taking just one AREDS 2. Stomach aches and pains, couldn't function for about 90 minutes. So, I began taking the pill with food. That helped. But, after about three weeks, I was getting acid reflux. I thought it was orange juice, thought it was tomatoes. I eliminated both of those foods, and yet I still had the acid reflux. And it was getting serious, waking me up at night. I believe it was the AREDS 2. I have stopped taking it and will not go back. The company states that it helped 25% with the 'risk' of macular degeneration. Not worth it to me."

"My doctor recommended this eye supplement to protect my eyes from the beginnings of macular degeneration, which is currently stable. I take one tablet with breakfast and one with dinner and have done so for about one month. Well, I haven’t been sleeping soundly since taking these red pills. I’ll sleep for two or three hours and then need to use the bathroom, and then two or three more hours of sleep, etc. I’m glad I found others on this site with sleep issues due to the red pill! I’m going to stop taking it."

"Bought a bottle of Ocuvite Adult+ Vit. & Min. Supplement at our drug store on July 28, 2022. Expiry date was okay: 2023-08. I took one gel cap around 10 pm. I woke up with a horrible headache. Pounding, stabbing, and my head felt swollen as if it was going to explode. I am totally healthy... took no other meds... don't get headaches normally. The drug store won't take the pills back, and there's a 1-800 number on the package for Bausch+Lomb, which I could call to get a refund! It's July 29 noon now, and the headache is gone, but my head is still buzzing and my balance is off. I hope they take it off the market!!!"

"I began taking these as directed on the box. Have had this dull migraine ever since. Migraine is dull because I've been taking my Nurtec for it. Nurtec normally kicks my migraines' butt, but when it didn't, I began to wonder if it was these supplements. So glad I came across this site! I now know it was being caused by a reaction to the AREDS 2. The nausea wasn't from my migraine, as I had thought too. It was from this supplement. So thankful for everyone who has shared their experiences here, as it is preventing me from the continued misery being caused by this supplement. If I hadn't come across this site & thread, I would have continued thinking my body either needed to adjust to the supplement or was experiencing an out-of-the-normal migraine episode."

"I just wanted to improve my eyesight, and my mom recommended AREDS 2. Never taken them consistently, but experienced nausea every time, especially if I took it on an empty stomach. Two days ago, I took my regular vitamins, which consist of vitamin D and iron, and a few minutes later, took an AREDS 2 and got horribly sick. I had severe stomach cramps and nausea, I couldn’t get out of bed I was in so much pain. After taking Prilosec and a Nexium, I managed to feel a little better that evening. The next day, every time I tried to eat or drink water, my stomach began to cramp, and I experienced extreme dehydration and joint pain no matter how much water I drank. Hopefully, the worst is over, will never take those again! They should be taken off the market or have some serious warnings on them!"

"After reading through these accounts of AREDS 2 side effects, I am starting to wonder whether my frequent headaches, occasional bad constipation, dizzy spells, and a recent diagnosis of low blood pressure (90/49) after three months on AREDS 2 for macular degeneration might be related. It never occurred to me until I read this chat box. I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced a significant drop in their blood pressure due to AREDS 2. Before switching to the new AREDS 2, I was using AREDS with lutein, which had stabilized my macular degeneration without any complications."

"I had been taking it for seven months and noticed issues with my eyes: more blurry vision and ghosting when looking at white text on a dark background on my phone, like when checking the weather app. My eyes seem tired and felt funny. Then I got a floater for the first time. That’s when I found this forum and started reading about other side effects: constipation. Yep. Headaches. Yep. I also started having a floating feeling in my head. It all sent me to the doctor to rule out causes. I’ve stopped taking this and have started feeling better. Anyone experience the ghosting? "I was prescribed AREDS2 by a retina therapist. Said to take any brand. I chose Preservision AREDS2 as I heard it was the best. Well, after I started taking it the first day, I felt extremely nauseous, very shaky, diarrhea, blurred vision. I kept taking my 1 in the am & 1 in pm with food and did it for 5 days and just became sicker & sicker. It was so bad. So, I stopped taking it and am having a terrible time getting it out of my system and it's been 3 days and still sick. I am staying very hydrated. I saw my eye doctor, and he said to stay off it and that it should be out of my system in 5 days. This stuff is extremely high in Zinc, 40 mgs per capsule, so taking 2, you are getting 80 mg of Zinc, which is way too much, especially for me as I only weigh 98 lbs and am a small woman. That’s way too much Zinc for me. Even 1 capsule of 40 mgs of Zinc is way too much! So, I attribute the huge amounts of Zinc to causing me to get so sick. I have read reviews stating that the Zinc dosage was way too high. I'll try one that has only 12.5 mg."

"Reading these reviews, I'm flabbergasted. I have been taking AREDS 2 for 3 years. Not one issue. None! In the 3 years I have taken them, my dry MD has remained the same. No worsening. I take one in the a.m. before breakfast. One after dinner. Very happy with the product."

"I should have checked before ordering this medication. I took my first dose yesterday, and within an hour was horribly ill with stomach cramps, severe bloating, nausea, and back pain. Somehow, it didn’t occur to me that it was the PreserVision. I just took a second day's dose twenty minutes ago, and am already feeling sick again. Googled and found these reviews. I’m so angry. This is ridiculous. This shouldn’t even be on the market or, at the very least, should come with clearly marked warnings. Sitting here, wondering if I should try to bring this dose back up or flush my system with water."

"My eye doctor recommended that I start taking this supplement after he discovered that I have the beginnings of glaucoma. I would take one in the morning and one at night. Within a short amount of time, I experienced a very sore feeling in my stomach, with a lot of belching and horrible, persistent gas. I thought it was due to a new coffee that I was trying. I have been diagnosed with gastritis and a bilateral hiatal hernia in the past, so I have to be careful of what I consume. I initially did not think that AREDS 2 was the culprit. I changed coffee and stopped taking all of my supplements, and quickly I felt so much better. I decided to slowly start reintroducing my supplements back in. And then it occurred to me that I should look up the side effects of AREDS 2. Boy, am I glad that I did! I found all of these reviews, and I was astonished. I felt that I needed to contribute my experience as well."

"This works great for me. My vision has improved some, and the dry eye symptoms are better. I have noticed no side effects. I have very early stage macular degeneration, which my mother also had. I hope it helps ward that off."

"I took Estroven for a month for delayed sleep, painful periods, brain fog, and fatigue. I noticed I started feeling better, I could sleep better, brain fog decreased, energy increased, and periods were less painful, with no headaches. I felt I had found the right pill. Only after my periods I got terrible constipation and a headache. It was so bad that I wanted to go to the emergency room but took a stool softener and got some relief. I stopped taking Estroven, but even after a week, the constipation hasn’t gone away completely. I did some research, and it turns out Rhodiola Rosea, the main ingredient in Estroven, could change the gut microbiome. It definitely altered my gut microbe, hence, the constipation won't subside immediately. I really do like the way I felt on Estroven and hope I can continue using it if I can remediate my constipation."

"I have wet macular degeneration in one eye. Have been taking Eylea injections every 6 weeks for two years. In the last six months, taking 2 PreserVision AREDS 2 capsules each day, the most annoying symptom is severe constipation, which I have rarely had in the past. My retina specialist recommended these, and I have regularly taken them. I’m interested in another compound which would be effective."
