For Insomnia "I fall asleep easily but wake up once or twice a night and again up very early, gradually until I ended up sleeping 1 or 2 hours a night. Decided to go on AD, and my GP prescribed Mirtazapine 15 mg. Last night was my first night, I slept for 3.5 hours, then I was up for 1 hour. I fell asleep again until 7 a.m. I had some vivid dreams, but my sleep didn't feel very deep, so I don't know if this is working properly, as I was hoping to be sleeping for like 10 hours or something (much-needed sleep). I had no appetite whatsoever, and I am losing weight very fast. Now it is my first day, and I am here typing, no major side effects so far except feeling a tiny bit dizzy (nothing major). I am getting very nervous about being on AD, but it is what it is. I don't know if this drug will help, but I have no choice! Hope everyone will get better!"

For Depression "I was on Sertraline for almost a year and suffered major depressive and suicidal thoughts, so my doctor took me off and put me on Remeron (Mirtazapine). I have only been on it just over a week, but I already feel a difference. I have noticed more good than bad, but will share both. I use this for anxiety and anger. Bad: groggy and dizzy in the mornings for a while, increased appetite, a bit of a 'hazy' feeling almost like a glaze over you, a bit of tenderness in touch. Good: VERY relaxed constantly, feeling of being 'high' almost... sort of a constant state of relaxation, feeling chill and not being so easy to anger, excellent sleep. Overall, it does seem to help with lowering worry, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, and overthinking. So far, this seems to be working, the only thing I don't really like is that it makes me feel groggy most of the mornings. Has anyone else had these side effects? Do they gradually disappear?"

For Anxiety "I have been on this medication for about 4 months now. When I first started taking it, it knocked me out hard, and when I woke up, I could barely walk straight. I was so dizzy and off balance it scared me. My doctor told me that it is normal and to just stick through it. I felt better the 2nd and 3rd months, while it didn’t take away my panic/anxiety disorder, it did help a little bit. Now I’m on month 4, I have been having panic attacks in the middle of the night. I get weird panic attacks, which show in uncomfortable physical symptoms. I am now going back to the doctor to see if there is anything else I can do to improve or change my medication. This did help me get off Xanax 0.25-0.5 mg for 3 months, but now I need it again occasionally."

For Anxiety "I've been on mirtazapine for around three to four weeks now, started off on 15 mg, then quickly went up to 30 mg, as I had taken that dose before. I am feeling dizzy, have terrible indigestion, and I am feeling nauseous, still have no appetite. Think I need to go down to 15 mg again, as the higher dose gives me too many side effects. Have been sleeping better, and anxiety levels are better, guess it’s a long haul ride sometimes. Fingers crossed."

"I was prescribed Mirtazapine because the doctor who prescribed it believed I have something called functional vomiting. She initially prescribed it as an anti-anxiety medication. When the psychiatrists and I explained to her that I don't have anxiety, she prescribed it as an appetite stimulant. It hasn't done much for my appetite, I still vomit a lot, and it has made little to no difference in my gastric emptying, as far as I can tell. One of the biggest issues I've found is that on a normal day, I'm very tired and get quite dizzy. When I take Mirtazapine, it completely knocks me out, and I can barely stand. The headaches are really bad. I also get palpitations. I should note that this is just my experience, and I know this works really well for people who actually need this drug, so don't let what I say deter you if you need it."

For Anxiety "I was prescribed 15 mg mirtazapine to take at bedtime due to anxiety and trouble sleeping at night. Within half an hour, I almost passed out from it. I had dizziness, nausea, my hearing was muffled, and I lost peripheral vision. I managed to make it upstairs to bed but then passed out for 13 hours. The next day I felt 'floaty' and really happy. I didn't take a dose the following night because I was going to have a glass of wine for my birthday celebrations (I wound up having two, this is not a lot for me, and again I didn't take another dose). The following day (36 hours after my 15 mg dose of mirtazapine), I couldn't stay awake, my dad had to pick me up to take me to his house as I didn't feel able to drive and was worried about not staying awake. It's been almost a week since taking that one 15 mg dose, and I still feel odd, light-headed, and dizzy some days, and I'm sleeping up to 14 hours some nights (I was barely sleeping all year prior to this). My doctor has advised me not to take any more."

For Anxiety "After a horrendous experience on sertraline (manic and self-harm), my GP has switched me to mirtazapine. Two weeks in on 15 mg. No huge change in anxiety/mood, etc. I fall asleep within 5-10 minutes of taking it. Unfortunately, I have started getting dizziness and vomiting. I hope this passes as I have been in bed all weekend with it. No appetite increase or weight gain, thank goodness. Increase in libido, which is interesting (my boyfriend is not complaining!). Got a doctor appointment this week...will be interesting to see if she wants to up my dose and, if so, how that goes for me."

For Depression "This will help you sleep for sure! At a dosage from 7.5 mg to 15 mg, it knocks you out. Unfortunately, it also made me feel dizzy, zombified, and unable to concentrate during the day. I also broke out in severe acne from the moment I started taking it. If you really struggle with insomnia, go for it! However, I felt like the walking dead the next day."

For Insomnia "Took not even a full 15 mg tab one night for sleep issues. Never again. Slept OK but lost entire following day through groggy, dizzy, bad-humored mood. Absolutely terrible, the rest are in the bin."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I think mirtazapine is a horrible drug. It will zap your energy. I've been trying to taper off it. I can’t stand up, walk, or move. I’m dizzy. Stay away from this stuff."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I am on 45 mg mirtazapine for PTSD and major depression, it has helped me a lot. I'm sort of at a plateau at the moment. I've been very down and hard to stop myself from getting suicidal again. I've had a lot of side effects like dizziness, fatigue, weight gain even though I don't eat a lot, nausea, etc. I tried to go down a dose but got really bad (suicidal), so the doc put me back up and said I have to stay on it. It hasn't helped with my nightmares, which are making me so exhausted. But in a bubble, mirtazapine is keeping me alive, so it's obviously working."
