Metoclopramide for Migraine "6/10/19 I received the migraine cocktail for the first time. The doctor was very careful to push the Reglan slowly into the IV. At first, I felt fine, but once she left the room, I got hot, sweaty, and anxious. I had full-body tremors, sweat through my clothes, and felt like I needed to rip the IV out and run. My severe migraine is gone, but I would recommend not trying this medication if you already have anxiety or if you’re sensitive to medications."

Metoclopramide "DO NOT take this medicine. May be the worst drag I ever taken. I have a lot of side effects, like depression, and my face numb, my neck stiff like stone, my body shake for 9 days now, and I only took it for 3 days at a dose of 3 times a day."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given the medication in tablet form when I was discharged from the hospital. I will NEVER take this medication again. I was beyond agitation, angry, aggressive, heart rate went through the roof and blood pressure dropped too low. I was shaking and twitching uncontrollably. I had to be given three shots of the antidote to reverse the effects. I was in the hospital very ill from this for 14 hours."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Been combating nausea for a while, doc gave me Reglan to try out (pill form). I think I had to pay for it out of my own pocket, it was quite expensive for a 42-pill box (14 days' worth, 3 pills per day). I took one pill, felt weird, a bit shaky, but nausea went away. Later that day, I took the second pill, started feeling sleepy, more shaky, couldn't sit still. I didn't really connect it to the pills, so later I took the third pill and I think I went crazy when it kicked in. Very anxious and 'I want out of this' feeling. I would never take this drug again. I'd rather throw up."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "PLEASE do not take this medication!! If you go into the ER for nausea and vomiting and they tell you they're going to administer this medication into your IV, tell them absolutely not! I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum for the first 3 months of my pregnancy that landed me in the ER five times, and I had to be put on IV fluids. The first couple of times they gave me Zofran, which worked the first and second time, and then it just started making my nausea and vomiting worse. The next couple of times I came into the ER and I told them the Zofran was making me feel worse, they decided to give me Reglan, and oh my god, I had never felt this way from a medication before. After ten minutes of them giving it to me, I started shaking and feeling the worst anxiety I've ever felt, and I have an anxiety disorder. I wanted to rip my IV out of my arm and run out of the hospital. I remember I started looking at my IV and trying to figure out a way I could remove it myself without injuring myself."

For Migraine "About 2 weeks ago, I had a migraine that lasted for about 3 days until I finally went to the ER. When I was seen, the doctor gave me a mix of Reglan and Benadryl in an IV, and boy, was that the biggest mistake of my life. At first, I felt silly and sleepy and even laughed a little. Then the next thing I know, my eyes are wide because my heart starts racing like crazy! I already suffer from anxiety, I wish she would have mentioned the side effects before she injected me with the meds. I would have never taken it via IV. I thought I was gonna die! I called the doctor back in and she told me to just calm down. My heart rate finally calmed, but then I started shaking. Then came sleep. I woke up and felt a little better. It made me feel depressed a few days later. Traumatized forever."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Doctor prescribed this for migraines. Immediately after taking the first pill within an hour, I jumped out of bed and was restless, shakes, had severe anxiety, trembles, and felt like I was going to die. This lasted days - I told my next doctor this, and she then told me that some people do have this reaction. I will NEVER take this again and do not recommend it."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I went to the ER for a migraine that was lasting several weeks. They gave me Tylenol and Reglan (after having told them of my history of anxiety). Within minutes of the Reglan, I started to have the worst panic attack of my life. I couldn't keep my legs still, my whole body kept jerking, I wanted to rip out my IV and run, I was crying loudly, and I was pulling on my hair. My husband said I looked like the Exorcist. The ER doctor said that can happen if the nurse pushes the meds too quick, but the nurse denied doing that. They gave me a half dose of Benadryl, which did nothing, followed by another half dose. About an hour later, I was exhausted, no longer freaking out, but still occasionally twitching. Never again. I list it as a med allergy now. My anxiety is still increased 7 months later, and I don't know if this is to blame."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "My son has hemiplegic migraines. We just had our 3rd ER visit. First time getting Reglan in the cocktail. He began shaking uncontrollably with chills and had almost muscle spasm jerks. We had no warning of possible side effects, so obviously he was scared, increasing the side effects. The nurse said it is a mild, common, allergic reaction to the drug. He was treated with an additional IV dose of Benadryl and began to settle fairly quickly. Know that this reaction is a side effect."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Just like many others have said, I was given this in the ER for nausea and vomiting. TERRIBLE!!!! Do NOT let a doctor give you this medicine!!!! It makes you feel mentally insane and violently ill! Your entire body shakes, intense muscle cramping and contortions, nerve pain, panic attacks, have the urge to rip out the IV and escape the hospital bed, dizzy, confusion, uncontrollable body movements. Like many others have said as well, this medication can truly be PTSD inducing, especially if you have a history of anxiety/depression. I thought I was insane until I saw the amount of people with the same bizarre side effects. And it didn't even touch my nausea or vomiting issue in the slightest! Can't believe this medication is even used still in ER or hospital settings. Stick to safe nausea medications like Zofran (ondansetron). The only one I trust, even if it doesn't always work. At least it won't drive you to insanity."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "This drug needs to be removed from the market. I experienced a concussion and was administered this medication intravenously in the emergency room for migraine and nausea. Immediately after receiving the drug, I felt dizzy and as though I was going to faint. Within minutes, my heart rate skyrocketed to 190 bpm, and I had the worst panic attack I have ever experienced, and I am a combat veteran. My entire body began shaking uncontrollably, and all of my muscles clenched up tightly. This continued for around 45 minutes. The medical staff provided Benadryl to 'reduce' the side effects, and the doctor informed me that 'those side effects are normal.' Are you kidding me? They did not even ask whether I had a history of anxiety or mental illness. Unfortunately, I suffer from anxiety disorder and PTSD, and this experience triggered a significant PTSD episode with crippling anxiety that persisted for over two months after taking this medication. If you have pre-existing anxiety, avoid this medication."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Yesterday, I went to the emergency room with severe vertigo that I had for three days prior, and a migraine had started two days after the vertigo. It was painful, it was the first time I ever went to an emergency room for a headache. They were very worried I could not walk due to the severe vertigo, so they decided to give me meclizine and Reglan in an IV drip and something for nausea. Within 10 minutes of the IV, I began shaking uncontrollably all over, and my muscles were twitching. My stomach was burning horribly, and I literally felt a panic so severe I thought I was dying. Finally, it became so bad the doctor gave me a Valium, and within 10 minutes, I felt back to normal. Reglan was the problem, and I NEVER want that feeling again!"

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was inpatient in the hospital for a 5-day migraine. I was given Reglan and Benadryl through IV several times over a 4-day hospital stay, and it helped the migraines in minutes. I want you to understand how miserable I was. I had to have the curtains always drawn, couldn't watch TV or listen to music, and the room always felt like it was spinning. I noticed that when they administered the Benadryl, it burned when given through IV. I had competent nurses who administered it slowly to prevent intense burning. I also noticed after both were administered, I felt like I needed to move around, so my fingers and legs twitched a little, but not too much. It helped more than anything, and I'm really happy it was there as an option."

For Gastroparesis "I took this medication for 9 days after my husband and I were warned of the possible serious side effects. One morning, I awoke with severe shaking and tremors, along with confusion. It's been nearly 45 days, and I'm still experiencing the confusion, but the shaking and tremors are greatly reduced. It's really bad when a person who is an active reader and who used to knit, sew, and crochet can't pick a book, knitting needles, the sewing machine, or a crochet hook and concentrate. Words used over a lifetime don't come. I hate this feeling and inability to function as I once did."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was given part of my migraine cocktail in the ER via IV. They said it would make me anxious, but the IV Benadryl would help counteract it. LET ME TELL YOU, IT DID NOT!! I am an RN and have given this med IV push, I had no idea it could make you feel like this!! I wanted to crawl out of my skin, I could not breathe. Anxiety is an understatement. I even had residual anxiety days later and still feel anxious thinking about it now. I had shakes so bad."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Awful, I took metoclopramide for a migraine headache causing me to be extremely nauseous. I was on it for 2 days. I had hallucinations, tremors, the shakes, blurred vision, was seeing things, was unable to finish my sentences, and couldn't make words with speech, mania, swelling, numbness, hands are still too shaky to text and have any strength. This medication should be discontinued, it's that bad."

For Migraine "I unfortunately just went through all of this again this past Saturday. The same wave of terror hit me as soon as they started the “migraine cocktail.” I even told the guy I’ve been through this before. I think I have a bad reaction to whatever drug you’re giving me. He then said I was probably just a Reglan, it tends to give people jitters. I said no, this is not just jitters, it is a full-blown panic attack. Is there anything you can take to counteract what you just gave me? And he just said no. We can’t give you anything for jitters here. Four hours of anxiety feeling like I’m freezing, having to pee every few minutes, diarrhea, heart racing, trouble breathing, feelings of doom, and the thought of wanting to run out of the hospital-all of these feelings came back. Why are they giving people this medication and not explaining the side effects?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "My daughter is 8 weeks pregnant and was prescribed Maxolon for morning sickness. A few hours after taking it, she had a feeling of anxiety and couldn't concentrate on anything. She was wandering aimlessly around the house, not knowing what to do. She would try to sit down but couldn't settle. Later that day, she experienced a full-blown panic attack. Couldn't breathe, trembling, cramps. She went straight to her doctor, who did not connect the symptoms to the medication. Her husband asked them to call the ambulance, however, the hospital did not make the connection either, sending her for a CT scan and blood tests. Over the next week or so, she was in a constant state of anxiety, unable to care properly for herself or her son. Unable to drive or be left alone. She had 2 more visits to her doctor, who diagnosed panic disorder and referred her to a psychologist. After doing our own research, she has stopped taking Maxolon and is beginning to feel normal again."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Like everyone else mentions, DO NOT accept for migraine treatment! They will tell you they're giving you a migraine cocktail (Benadryl, Reglan, Toradol). I have anxiety and am prone to anxiety/panic attacks, it induced the worst anxiety attack I have ever had. Sharing this because I started shaking uncontrollably. I almost pulled the needle out of my arm. I couldn't walk when they asked me to get up for my brain scan. When I told the staff I was starting to feel anxious, they said, 'Yeah, you'll feel funny,' which is quite the understatement. I wanted to scream. I couldn't hold my arms out in front of me for the neuro exam (I had been having migraines for a week straight, so I expressed my neuro concerns). Thankfully, I survived, but I am genuinely traumatized."

For Migraine "Same as with all the others. Went to the ER for a bad migraine and was given Reglan, Benadryl, Toradol, and a steroid (dexamethasone). The nurse said the Reglan was to stop the nausea and the Benadryl was to “help” the Reglan work. Almost immediately, I began shaking uncontrollably. Everyone thought I was having an extreme panic attack and kept telling me to try to calm down, but I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. It was worse in my legs than anywhere else, and I was really restless, rolling from side to side. I eventually was able to “fall asleep” for about 30 minutes (it wasn’t really sleeping, more like semi-conscious passed out) and the shaking subsided. Still, it was pretty unpleasant. And to top it all off, the migraine came back within 24 hours. Sumatriptan/Imitrex works great for me, so I will insist on it next time I wind up in the hospital for a migraine. I don’t know why they didn’t just use it this time around. The whole Reglan experience was pretty awful."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "The urgent care center gave me a shot of Reglan and Toradol in my backside and Benadryl. The meds burned going in, but within 20 minutes, my migraine had subsided. Went home, slept. Next morning, woke up, got ready, feeling groggy, my chest was tight. I went to work and felt jittery, nauseous, dizzy, then later I got very hot, cold, and sweaty. Then I turned white as a sheet and got full body tremors. I had to be picked up from work and brought back to urgent care. Got to urgent care and they gave me Ativan and said I had an anxiety attack. The only thing that was different in my body/life was the fact that my migraine was now gone and was treated with those drugs. I'm not totally discounting the fact that I had an anxiety attack. In fact, it makes total sense the way I was feeling, but I definitely believe this drug triggered something unholy and terrifying to happen in my body. It did get rid of my migraine (which was the reason I needed it), I am grateful for that, but I was not aware of any adverse effects."
