For Lactation Augmentation "I experienced quite bad anxiety, restlessness, and restless leg syndrome after taking this for only a couple of days. I had just come home with twins and thought I could have some sort of postnatal depression as I was actually 'scared' of my children. I was so tired and would lie down to sleep but would have to get up within minutes due to restlessness. It occurred to me it could be the metoclopramide, prescribed for lactation. So I stopped it to see. Within 2 days my symptoms were gone. Thank goodness because I thought I was losing my mind. It did not have any apparent effect to improve lactation. I would never have this drug again, the effects were that bad."

For Migraine "This is terrible. I went to the ER last night for stabbing pain migraine, they gave me Reglan and Benadryl via IV. Immediately, my skin felt cold, then turned super hot and flushed. My mouth got extremely dry, and it felt like my throat was closing. I was gagging. I was extremely restless and irritable. My hands were shaking so bad. The nurses looked at me like I was crazy. I made them take out the saline IV, and I left the hospital. I was given this at 10:30 pm, and it took me 6 hours to finally relax to fall asleep. Never, ever again. I’m adding this to my allergy list. I feel like I was given this through a pill before, though, and this didn’t happen."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Admitted to the hospital on Monday with nausea and vomiting. By Tuesday, the doctors wanted to send me home but not without eating. So, I was given IV push. Within minutes, I felt restless, needed to run out of my skin, and other all feeling of dread! One of the worst meds. The doctors acted as if they didn't understand what was going on, and the nurse didn't care. I sat in a fetal position all day trying to breathe through the overwhelming restlessness. It is now Tuesday evening, and I still feel restless! Just took Benadryl, and it did not help at all. Would not recommend this med or the hospital I was at. Also, losing faith in nurses and doctors."

For Migraine "I went to the ER for a three-day migraine after sumatriptan wouldn't work. I was given a cocktail of Benadryl, Reglan, and Toradol in an IV. After a few minutes, I became very restless and couldn't stop shaking. My pulse and blood pressure skyrocketed. I felt like my head was going to explode. I called the nurse and was given more Benadryl to counteract the Reglan. I slept great for almost 3 hours in the ER, and my migraine was gone when I left."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Prescribed for morning sickness, I have never felt so restless and anxious in my life. I had to go to the hospital due to shortness of breath. I prefer to have the morning sickness symptoms than the side effects of this medication."

For Migraine "I was administered 10 mg of Metoclopramide at the ER for a horrific migraine. Within seconds, my heart started racing, I was restless, anxious, and I felt like crawling out of my skin. The nurse said this was a common side effect. This medication is poison, and I swore never to take it again."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the ER for hyperemesis gravidarum. I could not hold anything down. I was admitted into the hospital and was given 5 mg of Reglan every 6 hours through IV. It definitely helped with my nausea. However, it made me extremely restless and I could not sleep for 3 days while in the hospital, and I take Seroquel 200 mg also. I do think it was a combination of not being comfortable in the hospital and the Reglan because I slept at home once I’m out with the pill form. But, I’ve been spacing the Seroquel and Reglan hours apart and not at the same time because I do think it definitely contributes to the Seroquel not being as effective since Reglan is made to empty your stomach and to process things better. Taking them at the same time was not as effective for sleep. I have a history of mental illness but take medication that helps, so I think I didn’t have many mental side effects because of that. Reglan is known to cause tremors, shakes, etc. Especially with other certain meds."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I had the most horrendous experience with Reglan for migraine. I’ve never had a migraine bad enough to go to the ER, but I couldn’t kick this one. I wish I was well enough to look up each ingredient before I let them administer the drugs to me. The second I received the Reglan dose, I immediately felt a crushing, awful, crawling-out-of-my-skin weird feeling. I had to pull my mask down and started having a panic attack. Reality felt completely warped. I wanted to pull the IV out, I couldn’t hold still, even though they told me that holding still would make it go away faster: umm, not true. No one told me the potential side effects of this medication. I felt like I was dying, my legs were shaking, I was so restless and hopeless. The nurses kept saying it would go away after a few minutes, of course, it didn’t. After 30 minutes of this nightmare, they finally gave me Ativan for anxiety, and it helped. Stay away from Reglan!"

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Went to the ER for a horrible migraine that would not go away. Doctor gave me a 'migraine cocktail,' and Reglan was part of it. THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I honestly feel like I have some PTSD symptoms from this experience. Gave me through IV and instantly started to have a panic attack. I felt so restless, like my bones wanted to jump out of my skin, couldn’t get comfortable, had to repeatedly get out of my bed and pace the room, this combined with dizziness was horrible. My heart rate also skyrocketed to 140 and stayed in that range all night according to my Fitbit. Two weeks after the ER visit, every time I stood up or did any type of activity, my heart would go to 160-180. I ended up back in the ER 4 times after this experience because of my heart. I’ve never had heart problems before taking this medication! It took around 2 months for me to start to feel normal again."

For Migraine "Was given metoclopramide IV for a severe headache. Within 30-60 minutes, I became restless, dizzy, felt like I wanted to leave, and my hands started buzzing. I became hot and started sweating a lot. I am very thankful that my doctor and nurse recognized this as Extra Pyramidal Symptoms (EPS) and immediately gave me a dose of IV Benadryl to counteract the effects. The Benadryl made me very woozy and lightheaded, but within 30 minutes, I felt better. My headache was relieved. Overall, this drug was effective at treating my headache, but the EPS was scary to go through. I would recommend discussing side effects with your doctor and ensuring that these symptoms are recognized for what they are, as they were easily reversed for me."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I’m pregnant and went to the ER for nausea. They gave me fluids and then gave me Reglan in the IV. I immediately felt an overwhelming feeling of anxiety. A few minutes later, I had them take the IV out. I felt antsy and couldn’t sit still. Didn’t click that it was from the Reglan since I have a history of anxiety and don’t like fluids going in me. But 6 hours later, I’m home, anxious, restless, shaking, foot, and irritated. So I googled the medicine and sure enough everyone here is having a similar experience. Don’t recommend, definite anxiety inducer. Hope it goes away. The reviews saying they still have it from one dose are scaring me."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have taken Maxolon for morning sickness. On the two occasions I have taken this medication, I had an extreme reaction within 10 minutes. Racing heart, extreme anxiety, restlessness - I have experienced a panic attack that day, and I am still struggling with the aftereffects. I immediately threw this medication in the bin. I began experiencing panic attacks in the third trimester of my last pregnancy. At the time, I was using Maxolon, but I had put it down to hormones. I now feel that based on how I feel now, it is more than likely that Maxolon triggered this. I now have lasting effects of panic attacks for no reason. It’s been a horrendous experience, to say the least."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had a bad reaction, I was experiencing akathisia and other movement disorders. It stopped nausea at 10 mg 3x daily. It also made it so I could not sleep and was constantly moving or shaking. Shuffling around. Obvious movement disorders. Went to the hospital, was given 3 more drugs to help with side effects. Now it's out of my system. I can give it a 2 for nausea reduction. Other than that, it was counterproductive."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Reglan is amazing for migraines! I've had them for years, and when my prescriptions don't work, Reglan in the ER does. In fact, I found this thread because I am looking for info for self-administering. As many others mentioned, Reglan causes intense anxiety. For me, it's just restlessness. I feel as though I have to move my legs, even run! I can't lay still, even before my headache is better. I told this to my doctor during my last ER visit, and he added Ativan to the IV. That solved the problem. My advice is to not avoid the medication because of the side effects. Instead, ask the doctor about options to reduce the anxiety or restlessness."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was given this for a CT scan. As a great side effect, it worked extremely well for an acute, long-lasting migraine episode for me. People are correct that the psychological side effects are extremely unpleasant, but I believe that for me, Reglan stopped a months, possibly years, long migraine cycle. I think Reglan is a miracle drug. It is nice to know that it exists. The side effects were as bad as people are describing - within about 5 minutes of coming back from the CT, I told the aid that I had to leave the building due to being extremely anxious and restless. If you have “intractable migraine” and are in the ER and have not ruled it out, I would advise giving it a shot."
