Metoclopramide for Migraine "Doctor prescribed this for migraines. Immediately after taking the first pill within an hour, I jumped out of bed and was restless, shakes, had severe anxiety, trembles, and felt like I was going to die. This lasted days - I told my next doctor this, and she then told me that some people do have this reaction. I will NEVER take this again and do not recommend it."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Well, went to the ER for a massive migraine and vertigo. At first, they gave 1 mg of Ativan, 1,000 mg of acetaminophen, and 600 mg of ibuprofen. Even though it made me feel slightly better, the tightness around my head was still there and the room was still spinning, just not as bad. So they decided to give me 'the cocktail,' which included Compazine, Reglan, and Imitrex. After about 15 minutes, I felt so restless, like I needed to keep moving my body. I thought it was the combination of all the damn meds, but then I stumbled onto this website. Now I know it was the Reglan. Anyway, I was sent home with a prescription for Reglan and was told to take it with Tylenol and Advil for migraines. Well, the first night I took it, I was up all night fighting against the worst anxiety attack I've ever had. It lasted all night long. Never again will I take this medicine."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Please do not take! I wish someone had told me this, and I wish I had read the reviews. This drug, metoclopramide, gave me akathisia, something that I didn’t even know existed. This drug is poison. I couldn’t stop pacing, still restless, have horrible restless legs now, panic attacks constantly, anxiety. It’s been two months since, and still going."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have Crohn's disease and was prescribed metoclopramide a while ago for nausea. However, I've not felt nauseous for a while. Last night, I felt awful and remembered I had these tabs. I took one 10 mg tablet. It did stop the nausea and I didn't vomit, but I had the worst night's sleep with hallucinatory dreams, feelings of anxiety, and restlessness. I have been in bed all day today feeling drained but still restless."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I always have adverse reactions to metoclopramide! It causes me to feel restless, jittery, anxious, and vomit more, these effects last 24 hours. Zofran or Doxylamine for nausea and vomiting are better options for me that do not have those awful side effects and work well like they should!"

For Migraine "I've never written a review before, but I have to for this one because it's just unreal. I have been going to the hospital for migraines for over 10 years, and they always give me the usual 'migraine cocktail.' Every time, I have to ask and remind them to give me Benadryl because, otherwise, I will go insane with metoclopramide. And no joke, every single nurse and doctor has no clue what I'm talking about. They look at me like, 'Huh? Why do you need that? What drug does that to you? What symptoms do you get? Hm, okay, I'll ask the doctor.' I have to fight just for Benadryl! And even with the Benadryl, I still feel super restless. But if I don't add metoclopramide, I will still be in pain. It's just horrible. This drug is the worst. If I took it alone without anything else, which I learned the hard way the first time, I thought I was dying. I wanted to crawl out of my skin and go running down the street, screaming. I highly recommend not taking this drug at all."

For Migraine "Same as with all the others. Went to the ER for a bad migraine and was given Reglan, Benadryl, Toradol, and a steroid (dexamethasone). The nurse said the Reglan was to stop the nausea and the Benadryl was to “help” the Reglan work. Almost immediately, I began shaking uncontrollably. Everyone thought I was having an extreme panic attack and kept telling me to try to calm down, but I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. It was worse in my legs than anywhere else, and I was really restless, rolling from side to side. I eventually was able to “fall asleep” for about 30 minutes (it wasn’t really sleeping, more like semi-conscious passed out) and the shaking subsided. Still, it was pretty unpleasant. And to top it all off, the migraine came back within 24 hours. Sumatriptan/Imitrex works great for me, so I will insist on it next time I wind up in the hospital for a migraine. I don’t know why they didn’t just use it this time around. The whole Reglan experience was pretty awful."

For Migraine "I tend to be sensitive to a lot of medicines-not in an allergic reaction type way, but I experience adverse side effects almost every time. I went into the ER with an ocular migraine with aura. They gave me a Reglan/Benadryl combo. It got rid of the migraine, but it made me feel EXTREMELY high! I might have dealt with it better if the RN had warned me first. Within 15-20 seconds of infusion, my mouth got cold, and I felt incredibly high/drunk. Paranoia, restlessness, etc. set in. I kept sitting up, lying down, sitting up, lying down. I even told the person in the room with me that I was about to rip my IV out so we could leave. Like I said, I wish the RN would've warned me first about these side effects so I would've been prepared."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Reglan while pregnant to help with nausea/vomiting. While it helped with nausea, I felt like I was going crazy. Could not sleep, couldn’t sit still, my mind was racing. It was terrible. I immediately stopped taking it. I would have rather dealt with the nausea than feel that way."

For GERD "This medication worked fine to reduce pain in the chest associated with GERD. However, after about a month of taking the medication up to three times a day, I was nearly put on antidepressants. As I was taking the medication, I noticed an increase in restlessness, general anxiety, and finally insomnia. This was incredibly hard for me to deal with as I'm generally a happy, positive person. I could not understand what was causing the anxiety, and I became very low. I was at my wit's end when I realized that the time frame of the anxiety I was suffering and my taking the Maxolon matched up. One day without the Maxolon, and I felt much better, more like my own self. I slept better and was more relaxed. This medication can cause serious side effects!"

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Same as the other bad reviews. Impulse to rip out IV and run. Restless but had to stay in the hospital bed. Flighty, uncomfortable. Worse than the migraine. I am bipolar and on meds, and they gave it to me anyway. After getting it, I remembered that I had that experience before once. I put it on my list of allergies now. NEVER AGAIN. Luckily, only lasted about an hour. Worst hour of my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Please beware of this drug! Was prescribed metoclopramide for 2 weeks due to nausea caused by IBS, and I thought I was going crazy. It started off as feeling restless and unable to concentrate, developing into nightmares and really dark thoughts. It was terrifying. It may not affect you in this way, but I would say think very carefully about taking this drug and stop immediately if you start to notice anything untoward."

For Migraine "I went to the ER 2 nights ago for a 3-week-long headache that I guess was a migraine. I'm 19 weeks pregnant, though, so any/all attempts to get headache help from my other doctors in the weeks leading up to the ER visit were not strong/good enough. They too gave me Benadryl and Reglan through an IV. Like other reviewers, I did immediately feel relaxed and drowsy and was able to doze a little. However, I felt jittery in my legs and then got very restless and wanted to leave the hospital. The IV was uncomfortable the whole time, and once the fluids were empty, I got so impatient waiting for somebody to come remove the needle. Like others, by the time I was released, my headache started to return. I woke up yesterday morning with the headache."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Yesterday, I went to the ER because of a migraine and blurred vision. The doctor ordered Morphine, Toradol, and Reglan through my IV. The nurse pushed the Reglan really slow, but I still felt restless. It's like a feeling of being trapped in your body with it trying to jump out. As soon as I told the nurse what I was feeling, she told the doctor, and he treated me with Benadryl through my IV, and it stopped the feeling. After that, I was drowsy, and my body started to relax, and I was able to fall asleep. I will say that the migraine went away and my vision got better. I hope this helps someone."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I had surgery on my nose and was given Reglan afterwards because of nausea. This was a terrible mistake. I immediately felt jittery and so restless, like I could run a marathon. Thankfully, I was still tired, so I fell asleep not long after. A few months later, I went to the ER after vomiting all night, and the nurse injected something into my IV without telling me exactly what it was, and I got the same feelings all over again. They had to give me something to reverse it, and this time I asked for the name of the drug so I can make sure it’s never given to me again."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for non-stop vomiting, and they gave me Reglan through the IV. I was already sitting in the room, waiting to be treated for 3 hours, so I was already annoyed, but once they administered the Reglan and left me there for what would’ve been more hours, I felt like I was going insane. Never in my life have I felt so manic, I called my husband, stuttering to him, saying, “I’m gonna rip the IV out of my arm! I have to get out of this hospital!” So he told me to calm down, and maybe someone would come check on me, but an hour passed, and I finally lost it and dialed the nurse to discharge me from the hospital ASAP. I felt so embarrassed and kept saying, “I don’t know why I feel like this,” but I was too restless, and my anxiety was literally making me crazy. They never warned me of any side effects."

For Migraine "I'm so relieved to know I'm not alone with this awful 'migraine cocktail.' I suffer from chronic migraine and had one so bad last week I went to the ER. I told them I'd been twice before for debilitating migraines, and dilaudid was the best solution. Instead, they gave me a cocktail of Reglan, Benadryl, and Toradol. They injected the whole dose at once, and I had the worst uncomfortable, restless, panicky feeling I've ever had. I thought it was Benadryl making me tired, but after reading all the reviews on here, it has to be the Reglan. Refuse this terrible drug, even for anti-nausea. I was so restless I almost ripped out the IV. Worst experience ever!"

For GERD "I had the worst experience on this medication. I had severe restlessness and agitation that I would have given anything to stop. I could not sit down or stand up and just ended up lying in a heap feeling completely helpless, and this lasted for 4 days with disturbed sleep. There is stuff your doctor can do and get them to prescribe diazepam for the agitation at first. I also found a useful article which describes the symptoms that I had and cites a journal article which uses N-Acetyl Cysteine 2 mg does every day for twelve weeks as being effective. One of the worst experiences I had until I took control. Do not take 'there is nothing they can do' for an answer. Google Akathisia and see what you find."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed this in the hospital for extreme nausea at 10 weeks pregnant. Took for a few days. Had panic attacks, restlessness, started punching walls, body constantly shaking, felt like I was going crazy. I would prefer to be sick than to ever go through this again. It is horrifying."

For Migraine "Yep, I don't like this drug. I developed akathisia after being administered 10 mg intravenously in the ER last year in January. The akathisia initially lasted 372 days, and I’m feeling it come back after a one-month hiatus. It’s a horribly frustrating condition that I do not wish on anyone. I’d recommend not using Reglan if you have a history of mental illness."

Metoclopramide "I'm a 36-year-old male, and in the last year, I have been getting colitis flare-ups. To where my stomach is literally pumping like my heart. Throwing up bile and blood. I get to the point where my heart rate went to 36, which normally is around 80. This has been probably my 10th time going to the ER with constant uncontrollable vomiting. The only thing that helps is Reglan and morphine. Together. Now, Reglan makes me want to pull my IV out as I get very, very restless, and my legs go crazy like I can't lay still. In a few solutions in the past, the nurse made the fluids go in super fast, and that immediately made me feel so much better, also, Benadryl helps. I was just at the ER yesterday with the worst it's been, and it's my birthday today. Hands down, Reglan is a lifesaver, and with that pain, I will take the side effects. Zofran nor Phenergan work."

For Migraine "I have suffered from migraines for 43 years. I just recently went to the ER for intractable migraine, 3 days of constant excruciating pain. They started an IV and gave me the 'migraine cocktail' of Benadryl and Reglan. Let me tell you, this medicine combo made me freak out. I was jittery, restless, and out of my mind. The 1st time I got it (I work at this hospital as a CT tech), I was alone, and when no one was looking, I pulled my IV out and left the hospital, getting into my car and drove home. To this day, I am amazed I didn't have a car accident. The 2nd time I went to the ER (my husband drove me), they gave me the same med cocktail, and I freaked out again. Now realizing that this is not what I should be given! Terrible experience."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "After about a week of headaches and migraines with no relief despite taking every treatment I had available, I went to the ER. The doctor mentioned Reglan as a treatment option, and I accepted. I got Reglan in an IV, and a few minutes later, I just started to feel very anxious. Everything just felt very urgent, and I felt very restless. My face also started to feel hot. I also was alone during this visit, which I'm sure didn't help. I also suffer from anxiety, so it just increased my usual symptoms. My migraine relief was only so-so; it came back the next day. Reglan might be a good option for you if your migraine is really bad, but be careful because it can make you really anxious."

For Nausea/Vomiting "The hospital put it in my IV drip when I went in the other day for severe dehydration due to hyperemesis gravidarum, and it made me feel restless and dizzy and confused, along with extremely tight stomach pain, unlike any stomach pain I’ve had before. They prescribed it to me when we left (not making it clear that it was the same drug they put in my IV), and at home it made my nausea 10x worse. I couldn’t even keep water down, and the stomach pain was beyond unbearable. Only after missing my last dose of the evening was I able to finally get down some water and keep it down. Reglan is just horrible."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was in the ER last night for a severe migraine attack. The doctor asked what I normally get, and that's Toradol, Zofran, and steroids through IV. They came in with this Toradol, Reglan, Benadryl mix. Literally, 2 minutes after the meds were administered, I felt the need to jump out of the bed and just go home. I was burning up inside, restless, and still had the headache. So when I see other people posting almost the exact same thing, I totally get it. The National Headache Society did a study, Benadryl is actually one of the drugs NOT recommended to treat migraines. I was told Reglan treated the 'pain.' Nope, it actually just controls the nausea by getting your stomach to empty/process the contents faster. I had the same migraine when I woke up. Now the Toradol I know helped, it usually does to some degree. But getting a steroid shot/injection is usually what keeps the migraine from returning. Personally, I just don't think the doctor had a lot of knowledge regarding the treatment of migraines."
