For Dietary Supplementation "So far, pretty good after a month. Taking 200 mg twice a day for stress and anxiety, with heart racing, shaking, sleeplessness. Certainly takes the edge off, but honestly, not working as well as I thought it would. I have high hopes, as I became seriously addicted to tranquilizers and antidepressants 10 years ago, and it took me a year of horror to get off them. My body simply doesn’t metabolize these drugs. So no way will I ever take another, and so hoping l-theanine will help through my anxiety, as the older I get, the more anxious I seem to become as life happens while we plan it. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your experiences."

"I tried this as recommended by a herbalist at my local health food store as I'm very hesitant to take other psychiatric medication. He said not to mix it with benzos. I only took one a day, 200 mg. This gave me the calmness and peace I was looking for but I had no memory whatsoever. I would forget conversations and it was quite awkward. I would have horrific night terrors. My klonopin had stopped the nightmares, so I'm only taking them during my PMDD week. They do help calm me down to the point of feeling doped-up sedation and they kill my appetite. Consult your doctor if you decide to try this. I love/hate this supplement."

For Dietary Supplementation "I'm surprised I haven't heard of L-Theanine before now. With an anxiety disorder and insomnia, I worry a lot and, as a result, don't sleep well, if at all. I've been taking 200 mg at bedtime (only), and it definitely helps to slow 'the wheels,' but it doesn't do much for sleep. So I add a Benadryl 25 mg, and that does the trick. Since I don't like taking the Benadryl every night, I ordered a bottle of Passion Flower to see if that will help. I've been on this routine for about 2 weeks. I should add that, even though I'm not bothered much by anxiety lately - except for later in the afternoon - I do have a kind of fogginess in my head all day... like having a wad of cotton in my skull instead of a brain. Maybe it's the Benadryl."

For Dietary Supplementation "The first time I took 100 mg of L-Theanine, it made me feel spacey, tired, and gave me a headache. It did calm me down, I felt my dopamine level rise, but the overall feeling was somewhat uncomfortable. A lot of sources recommend having coffee with it. I loved the combination. It made me feel happy, motivated, and energetic, but that didn’t last long. In 5 hours, I started to have a bad crash. I had jitters all over my body, and my heart rate was very high. I took 50 mg of L-Theanine to calm down, but it didn’t feel the same the second time, not the same mood, and I felt cranky, but it relaxed me. Since I don’t feel right after a calm down, I take 5-HTP after. I also pair L-Theanine with 5-HTP for sleep and have happy dreams, sleep, and wake up with a smile. I recommend that combination for people who suffer from depression. For those who suffer from anxiety, don’t have it with coffee and be careful with it, calm downs can be pleasant. Could be the brand too, get a quality brand."

For Dietary Supplementation "I can't remember if I posted about this before so apologies. I've been taking 350mg once a day. I split the second 200mg powdered capsule in half. I'm trying to self-wean off my benzos as I've developed resistance and they're not effective anymore. Do not mix the two! I feel calmer and more sedated. I do get quite groggy, but I'm calm and everything just melts away without any side effects. I can handle things better. The only thing I'm worried about is my racing heart, developing resistance to it, and the vivid dreams. I'll give it more time to see if my anxiety (like racing thoughts, panic attacks and thoughtless rambling) and PMDD symptoms continue to improve. Last cycle was milder and it surprised me. I refuse to go on hormones or try another SSRI. I threw that trash Paxil in the garbage. L-Theanine seems to be working out. My cortisol hormone levels were high and I just got my blood tested last week. I was told they lowered. I'm so happy to hear that."

For Dietary Supplementation "Researching these types of supplements is a good idea before popping pills left and right. Some medications can interact with supplementation. One size does not fit all, and if you are taking prescription medication, a negative drug interaction can occur. I have an uncle that cannot eat seafood, if he does, his entire body will break out in a rash, and he will need to get to an ER ASAP. Everyone is different. Experimenting with nootropics, I have sought to underdose and skip days. I have found positive effects from these types of supplements. L-Tyrosine and L-Theanine are similar but different. I would suggest you wear your seatbelt, research, and tread carefully on the freeway of nootropic supplementation. Do what you gotta do. Follow doctor's advice."

For Dietary Supplementation "Diagnosed in the early '90s with ADD as a kid, docs tried me on all the usual suspects, made me a zombie kid, I hated it. 30 years of non-medicated personal mind battle later, and I learned about L-theanine. I take 200 mg in the morning and again after dinner. First dose ever, after 30 min or so, it was like the dust cloud in my head settled and the uncontrolled randomness of my otherwise frolicking mind just kind of chilled out. Not some voodoo miracle, but a legitimately settled and amiable thought process for me. Unfortunately, about 4 weeks in, and I believe it to be causing a pretty low-grade but almost constant nausea with an unsettled but not painful stomach. I am going to stop for a few days/week to confirm my experience. I do not notice any real boost when combined with caffeine, but I may tinker more. I don’t drink coffee, so I may need more caffeine content. I may try a different brand of L-theanine also, I really feel it helped me in a life-altering way as long as I can beat the nausea."

For Dietary Supplementation "I've been using this for years. The first to counter glutamate sensitivity or reactions, which it does very well. I've used it to relax, but (for me) it lasted too long. I felt my most relaxed and tired about 8 hours after I took it, so I assume it has a long half-life. It's not something to chill you for 2 or 3 hours. For the last 9 months or so, I've been using it to help sleep. Just 100 mg a few hours before bed helps, but doesn't keep me asleep for more than 4 hours. I find adding anything to this, like melatonin or inositol, to improve sleep just causes side effects. In fact, just the L-theanine alone after 8 months or so of use started to cause all-day dizziness and headaches that made me have to stop using it. I keep it now in case I eat something dining out that's very high in glutamate (like seafood) or has unlabeled MSG, as I do get reactions like elevated BP and pulse, which this definitely helps with. Great for occasional use."

For Dietary Supplementation "I've used the amino acid (not a drug) L-theanine off and on for many years. I have inattentive type ADHD and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Depending on the dose, and what I take it with (coffee, for example), it can make me feel simply a little bit calmer to being really sleepy, or in between. I have never had a problem with it, though for some reason, it makes me hungry."

For Dietary Supplementation "L-theanine is awesome stuff that I've used for ADHD/anxiety for a while. I'm off all ADHD and anxiety meds. Let me correct a few things I've seen in other reviews: #1 it is NOT a drug. L-theanine is simply an amino acid. #2 it does react strongly with coffee and caffeine. Just be aware. #3 figure out your dose. It is not a prescription medication. Often it's suggested to take 100 mg twice a day. That is just a suggestion. I had side effects so I just lowered the dose. I adjusted down because of my metabolism. I only take 50 mg a day. I'm 6 foot tall and over 200 lbs. I get the chewable tablets so I can break them in half. Works like a charm."

For Dietary Supplementation "Last night before I crawled into bed, I took two L-Theanine. Within 15 minutes, I felt a massive wave of relaxation and fatigue sweep over me. I honored my feelings despite it being relatively early in the evening and turned out the lights at 8:30. Within an hour of falling asleep, I experienced a horrifying dream. I rarely dream, so this was something rather unusual for me. Following my dream, I awoke an hour or so later with my heart pounding. Thank goodness I was able to successfully fall back to sleep. I have yet to try this supplement during the day, which I've read can help manage feelings of stress and anxiety in the workplace and at home. I was really impressed with how quickly this product promoted a sense of peaceful relaxation. I think L-Theanine may become a product I can depend on that will help calm my mind and settle my emotions as I prepare for a sound, restful night's sleep."

For Dietary Supplementation "Works well to increase both light and deep sleep. I noticed that within 6 hours, I had 2 hours of deep sleep, which is very good. If taking in the morning, it works well with caffeine to avoid feeling sleepy. Also, to aid sleep at night, taking it with magnesium works. Anyone who gets a tummy problem, try taking it with digestive enzymes. Anyone taking this who feels specific pain areas might want to get their liver, gallbladder, or pancreas checked because it isn't normal."

For Dietary Supplementation "I take 100 mg before bed to help stay asleep through the night. My doc recommended taking it throughout the day as well to increase sleep. It does, but I have had heart palpitations since increasing, especially if I take more than 100 mg in a single dose. So interesting how this supplement interacts with each individual. My body is quite sensitive to anything I take, which accounts for the pounding heart."

For Dietary Supplementation "After years of stress and trauma, became depressed and anxious with binge eating. Started Wellbutrin last April, and changed my job to better circumstances, stopped with further stress. Started having panic attacks, previous symptoms, additionally: fatigue, irritability, perimenopausal and low thyroid symptoms, rapid weight gain. Naturopath diagnosed adrenal fatigue, went off Wellbutrin (no issues), started L-theanine, 100 mg 2x a day, and a third before bed if I feel I need it, as well as Ashwagandha 2x a day. When stressed by events, I take 200 mg instead of 100 mg, am overcome with a sense of calm and well-being, like the first time I took it. Daily for over 2 weeks now, much better baseline anxiety level, wiped out my irritability, panic. That plus the Ashwagandha has given me my energy back and my sense of humor, ability to enjoy life, motivation. Binge eating is still a problem. Testing thyroid, hormone levels for further treatment."

For Dietary Supplementation "Have been taking Xanax for sudden anxiety attacks for years but decided to try L-Theanine and have had very good results. I take 200 mg 3x a day and am impressed with how well it works. Just to feel a calmness and helps me think clearly. I can focus and it stops the shaky hands and panic breathing. Also getting much better sleep, was waking up every 2 hours with feeling of 'dread', no more. It did take about a week of regular dosing to find my appropriate dose and get steady effect. I am glad I found it."

For Dietary Supplementation "I am an adult male with generalized anxiety disorder. I have taken benzos and antidepressants, but the side effects were not worth it. L-Theanine, while mild, is effective in reducing my anxiety and stress enough for me to not feel miserable every day, and it also helps me sleep. I have never experienced a negative side effect from it, and I have been taking it almost daily for several months."

For Dietary Supplementation "I had been taking 3 mg melatonin for sleep, but wanted to cut back as it left me feeling somewhat drugged. I found a product that contains 1.5 mg melatonin plus 100 mg l-theanine in a chewable, gummy form. It’s been working great for me for about a week. I feel this combo “lets” me sleep vs. “puts” me to sleep. However, I’m not sure if it’s the level of melatonin, the l-theanine, or the combo that works so well for me, but I’ll continue with it for a while."

For Dietary Supplementation "My holistic friend recommended this supplement to me after the passing of my mom. I could not rest, and my emotions were off the charts! But after using this for a couple of days along with 5 HTP, I have been calmer and more in control of my emotions, without feeling all drugged up or walking around in a daze. I will continue to take both supplements to help manage my depression. I highly recommend both supplements."

For Dietary Supplementation "I had great results. It enhanced my cognitive thinking and lessened my memory loss. The only problem was it gave me an unbelievable body odor. I could smell it, but not sure if anyone else could. No one mentioned me smelling bad. I had to stop taking them because I couldn't stand the odor. My girlfriend takes it to help her blood pressure, which the doctors couldn't seem to regulate."

For Dietary Supplementation "Military veteran suffering from PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia. I was skeptical at first, but after taking 400mg per day, I definitely notice a difference. Not a miracle happy pill, but it takes the edge away and allows me to feel halfway normal in stressful situations. It helps take my stomach out of knots and I sleep a little better. Can't complain, will continue to take."

For Dietary Supplementation "I’ve taken it twice with different responses. First time: 400 mg in the daytime, and it sent me absolutely doo-lally, and I was totally hyper manic. I couldn’t settle. Three years later, I tried it again at 400 mg in the daytime. It was a last resort as I was totally sleep-deprived/stressed and thought, “I’ll try anything.” Within an hour, I had to lie down and take a three-hour nap. I then used it over a period of two months. First as an ad-hoc sleeping aid. I find it doesn’t lengthen sleep much, maybe an hour, but the quality of sleep is higher. There can sometimes be what feels like mild grogginess, but it is easily overcome by just doing something. Then I’m pretty productive, can hammer through mundane tasks with ease, and stay on track with routine computer work. A great benefit was in tapering off caffeine (50-100 mg per mug) - pretty much removed all side effects. The only difference I can see was an underlying infection the first time around."

For Dietary Supplementation "I have been trying for months to find a solution for my ADHD/anxiety. My therapist recommended exercise, meditation, journaling, and eating healthy (an existing habit). After months of no improvements, we were thinking of trying rx medications, which is a fear of mine because of the side effects. Before seeing a psychiatrist, I did my own research and discovered L-theanine from a YouTuber’s video that sparked my interest. I went out the next day and bought L-theanine along with a few other supplements that were recommended, and I must say, the next day I felt completely fine, with no crippling anxiety, no overthinking, and I was more outgoing. I’m looking forward to more days like this. I hope L-theanine can help you as well!"
For Dietary Supplementation "I am so tired. Really exhausted! Been taking 500 mg per day for 3 days. And it’s the non-drowsy kind. I stopped yesterday and today it’s still hitting strong. I can’t take coffee: my husband calls me Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when I do. I’m looking for energy with a calm mind. If you’re as sensitive as I am, start with a really low dosage. Maybe that can help."
