Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I hike a lot, and as I have gotten older, 51, my knees have been increasingly painful. I went to the doc about 6 weeks ago and had pictures taken. They are basically bone on bone. So they suggested we try Monovisc, anything to avoid knee replacement, right? It's been 4 weeks of just absolute pain. The knee pain was easier for me to withstand. Currently, I still have knee pain, and as an added bonus, I have hip and back pain as well now. The pain has gotten so bad I can barely walk without stabbing pain, and if I sit for more than 15 minutes, I can barely get back up. Motrin is doing me no good currently, I have an appointment to go back to the doc in 2 days, so hopefully they can do something to fix this nightmare. I feel it is only fair to add this: If the doc had told me there was a 40% chance I'd be in this much pain from getting the injection, I still would have tried it. I don't blame the doc, and I don't blame Monovisc."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "Had my first injection 18 months ago. 1st injection of the series was no pain, 2nd of the series extreme pain, swelling, stiffness, 3rd injection no pain. I had no real knee pain for 18 months, remained active with Pilates, hiking, walking, circuit training. Pain started again in June 2017, started injections again in September, 1st injection no pain, next day no swelling but a few twinges. I hope I get another 18 months or more. Had surgery 2 years ago, knee remains stable right now, goal is to avoid any surgery from now on."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I'm 45 and have been told I will eventually need a double knee replacement. Had a meniscus tear repair on my right knee a year ago (knee still hurts) and now have a tear in my left knee. Cortisone injections didn't last. Finished my last shot of a series of 3 Orthovisc last Friday (injections were very painful), and I have no relief at all. I would say since getting the shots my knees are worse. I can't stand more than 5 minutes without them both hurting terribly, lots of swelling and trouble sleeping. I've been told it can take up to 6 weeks for the shots to provide relief, I'm hoping I see relief sooner than that."

For Osteoarthritis "Diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my left knee and given two options: the shots or a knee replacement. I started with the three gel shots. The first one was easy, the second one a little sore, and the third one was like a miracle. It hurt the day after, so I had to ice it, but the second day, no pain at all - none. I was thrilled. I've been in so much pain the last year. I'm praying it lasts a long time, but if not, I will just go into a knee replacement so I won't have to suffer again with it. I'm still young, 63, and really active, but I highly recommend these shots. You have to give it time to work and be patient. I'm very fortunate the third shot worked so fast. I have a friend that had it done, and it took a few weeks for it to work, but it did work. Patience and stay calm."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I did not know I had osteoarthritis. I originally thought the knee pain and inability to extend the leg was due to a pulled muscle or ligament. I was on the couch for three months, thinking the ice, elevation, and rest would heal the knee. I was shocked having to contemplate total knee replacement. When the shock wore off, I took two weeks thinking of a solution I could accept. My doctor was absolutely correct in giving me Monovisc. The actual injection was given on June 2, 2021. I felt no pain, a small amount of pressure when inserted into the knee. I felt my knee stabilize immediately. No pain, no limp upon leaving the office. Today is October 2, 2021. The past three weeks, I felt a change in my knee: slight pain with walking, and now I ice on and off all day and night. I had three and one-half back-to-normal months. My appointment to discuss the next step is on the 18th of this month. I made the right choice with Monovisc."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "After moving to a mountainous state, my left knee began acting up and was very unstable. I had had menial meniscus surgery years ago and had stability issues on and off. Not really pain. But after moving here, I was referred to a chiropractor that gave me exercises that did wonders. No pain, instability hardly there. But I got the Orthovisc anyway, thinking that it would help with stability. O M G. Upon getting into the car after the shot, my left foot became tingling. Then an hour or so later, I got a bad headache. An hour or so after that, my knee that had been pain-free started hurting. It is now 24 hours since the shot and the knee still hurts even at rest, and the foot is still tingling. I DO NOT RECOMMEND, and I will not continue with the shots. Hope my chiro can fix this. I feel that Orthovisc has taken me back to square one, but worse."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "The injections themselves were very painful, with burning. I knew to expect the fullness, but not the excruciating pain a couple of hours later. I could barely walk and couldn't stand any longer than 20 seconds. My doctor did not prepare me for this at all. I iced, elevated, and took anti-inflammatory medicine with no relief. It has been 3 days, and I'm still in a lot of pain up and down both legs, with a lot of swelling. The reason for these injections was to improve my quality of life, not worsen it. I pray it improves and that it will be worth it. We will see."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "This is my second go-round with Monovisc. I have had other injections, including cortisone. Cortisone helps but doesn't last very long at all. I need a knee replacement, but due to my age, holding out as long as possible. Monovisc really helped me. It takes about a week or two to really feel the difference. Immediately after the injection, I have some knee pain and instability, but ice and pain medication like Tylenol or Motrin helps some. Mostly just resting the joint with elevation and ice for as long as possible. After about 24 to 48 hours, the injection pain is much better. Monovisc works well for me. I got it in both knees, but my left knee is bone-on-bone and it makes a much bigger difference in that knee. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I suppose the worse your knee is, the bigger the difference you can feel. Lasted about 7 months at a time."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I have been crippled with severe pain since I got this shot 6 weeks ago. I cannot walk, play tennis, or golf. It is swollen and burns up and down my leg. The surgeon does not seem to be concerned, but my life has been at a standstill. I got it to hold me over until my knee replacement in November. The pain is debilitating, nothing works. If I stand on my feet for any length of time, then the pain is severe. RA doctor has put me on a tapered heavy dose of prednisone, also not working. BEWARE!"

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "Torn meniscus in my knee, given 3 injections of Orthovisc. Pain and swelling for a very long time. Drug was totally useless. Another orthopedic doc said I need knee replacement. Today I spent an hour on the phone with the pharmacy, BriovaRX, told them about the useless drug and that I wanted to speak with their CEO about a bill of $741.64. I found my insurance company paid them, are you ready? $2,083.20! I spoke with 4 different employees who kept putting me on hold and could not give me the name of their president or CEO. Then, to all insult, the 'resolution' employee tried to justify the outrageous cost of the drug. Told them I will not pay and will still pursue finding their CEO. I see a lot of unhappy people here, and a 6.0 rating for an 'expensive specialty drug' is poor. Next, will contact the manufacturer, Janssen Products. Apparently, a team of people decides how much this drug should cost. Defective product period."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I have two shots two weeks in a row. The first one I felt relief in about 3-4 days. My second shot was nearly a week ago, and I am in pain around the area of the injection. If this pain was gone, I’d be feeling much better than 2 weeks ago. Not sure if the injection was too soon after the first or if I tensed up or some other reason. The area above my kneecap is swollen, and the area around the injection site is a bit inflamed and tender. Wondering if anyone has had this issue. My next shot is in a week and considering waiting longer."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "Three days ago, I got the injection. I completely rested the first day and did very little movement the second day. Now, on day four, I am feeling so much better. I still take it easy and will do so for another two days, but my knee feels easier and less stiff, and the usual pain and aches are much less. I hope the pain continues to abate and movement will be easier. It is a great start, as I was quite skeptical …"

For Osteoarthritis "I had the hyaluronan injection on Monday for arthritis (the injection itself was the worst pain I have ever had). By the end of the day, my foot and toes were swollen, very painful to walk. Today is Friday, I can't walk on my foot. I had to crawl to the bathroom last night. I went to my primary care physician, he said I did not have a blood clot and that it had to be from the injection, which is 'very thick.' I talked to another person that had the EXACT reaction. DON'T get this injection. I have looked up the side effects, as this reaction is nowhere on this list, however, it should be. My friend and I cannot be the only two people in the world this has happened to."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I have bone-on-bone OA in the right shoulder. I have been told that I will inevitably need a shoulder replacement. I would like to put this off for a while, if possible. I have had 3/4 injections. I was told not to draw conclusions as to effectiveness until well after the last injection. I have had more daily and nighttime pain since starting injections, which I find disheartening as I had good pain control (1-2) before starting. Now it is a 3-4. I am hoping that in the end, the Orthovisc will not fail me!"

Hyaluronan "My knee cartilage is in pieces. I had shot number 3 today out of the 4 I'm due to have. Not feeling much better. But it can take a few weeks after the last shot. I learned the hard way - stay off your knee after getting the shot and rest that day - at least it works for me. The shot did hurt. So far, so good. Hoping for the best."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I have been on a different injectable medication for several years until my doctor changed to this one two weeks ago. My first injection seemed to go okay, but my second one was a nightmare. The pain actually made me yell out, and I am very pain tolerant. One knee hurt worse than the other, but both were very painful injections. I have no idea if they will work like the other one, but I am not getting any more of this brand. It has not been enough time to assess how it will work."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "The first two injections helped a lot. Most of the pain was gone in my right knee. My left had a little soreness left. I was okay until I took the third injection. It caused both of my knees to go in reverse, pain in both knees. Much more painful than they were in the beginning. I called my orthopedic specialist and told him of my results, he had no answer for me, but to say I needed to lose weight and probably have to have surgery."

Hyaluronan for Osteoarthritis "I am 43, need both knees replaced. I had both knees done with this treatment, and this has been the worst. I can barely walk, sit, or stand after these injections. I can’t sleep, I try to walk, but too much pain. I have been out of work for 3 years now. My doctor says the next step is replacement and disability, which will be hard for me to get because of my age. Crazy when I’ve worked all my life. I don't really know what move to make now."

For Osteoarthritis "I had my third and final shot of Synvis on November 16, 2015. Within seven days, the pain has become much more severe. Sciatic pain going up my back, and the back of my knee was in severe pain also. I had more trouble walking and going up the stairs after the final shot than before my knee surgery. I wake up at night with pain going up my back through my knees and ankles, with numbness, tingling, and much worse walking ability than before or after my surgery, which was in early September. It has been two months now since I had my surgery, and I have had three Synvis shots. What a mistake. My biggest error was not doing my research on this drug or whatever it is they shoot into your knee before I had the shots done. All I can say is beware of Synvis."

Hyaluronan "I have been having pain in my knee for about 1 year. I am a nail tech, and sitting was so painful. I was propping my leg up so it was straight all the time. Sleeping, everything. It always had to be straight. I had my 3rd injection last week. Absolutely NO PAIN. The shots were painless. Just a pinch where the needle enters. No bruising, no pain whatsoever. Highly recommend this treatment."

For Osteoarthritis "I was experiencing knee pain and received a cortisone injection with fair results. Four weeks later, I was offered and received Monovisc. They told me not to expect improvement for 3-4 weeks. It's been six weeks. Since the day of the injection, my knee is worse. It is stiff and gets stiffer if I sit for very long. I have to be careful about how I move it or it can have pain."
