"My sister had an emergency gallbladder removal in the '80s, and they put her on this drug under the brand name Inapsine. It eventually caused her to have seizures. Once her normal doctor took her off of it, she was better. Because of that, we were firm on no Inapsine/droperidol for my scheduled gallbladder surgery in 2000. I was still put on this drug, and it did nothing for me but made me miserable. The antiemetic effects were nil- I was still constantly throwing up with fresh surgery wounds. I couldn't even keep a popsicle down. Thankfully, my family checked my chart and forced the nursing staff to switch me to a different medication and give me Benadryl to stop the reaction. I was better after that. I was relieved to see this drug taken off the market in 2002, but it's back now, so I have to advocate loud and clear for myself. NO INAPSINE. NO DROPERIDOL. Hospital staff, LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS."

"I was given this anti-nausea drug via an IV after major surgery when I was 12 years old. I had a bad reaction where my eyes were uncontrollably rolling in the back of my head. I had no pain and was not clenching my jaw, and I had zero muscle spasms or anything like that. But I remember actively trying to get my eyes to stop rolling upward, and I couldn’t. It was very scary for a 12-year-old! Thankfully, my parents saw it immediately, and the nurse gave me Benadryl to stop the reaction. I do not recommend, lol."

"Do not take this drug. Given to me post-surgery for mild nausea. It made me suicidal, severe anxiety!! It was like living hell. I could not stop pacing the hospital ward, chest pain, blood pressure immediately went up. Suicidal thoughts. Skin crawling, panic. Lasted 3 days. Valium did little to help. I almost ran away from the hospital to try to escape the horror. Worst night of my life."

Droperidol "I was given Inapsine after surgery when I was about 19 years old. It was injected into my thigh to control nausea. I was given 3 injections, and about a half hour after the third injection, I went into a dystonic reaction where my eyes rolled to the back of my head, my mouth clenched down, and my teeth were clenching so hard I thought they'd break. My abdominal muscles were seizing up, and that is where I had my stitches, so it was extremely painful. My neck was twisting back, and my tongue was rolling to the back of my throat. It took the hospital about 6 hours to figure out what was happening-what caused my reaction. Only the hospital pharmacist figured it out. They tried, prior to the pharmacist showing up, sedating me with valium and other drugs. Finally, the pharmacist suggested the IV drip, and that stopped the reaction. It was terrifying and one of the worst experiences of my life. I was filled with absolute terror during this entire reaction."
