For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was on day six of the seven-day course and was about to rate clindamycin a ten, then, in 30 minutes, my body was covered with a rash and hives known as a drug eruption. Now just hoping I don’t get C. diff in addition, but have had no problems on that end, maybe because I took probiotics. It cured my abscess, but I am allergic to it, so never again!"

For Bacterial Infection "I immediately had a severe reaction to this drug given to me for a minor infection (carbuncle on my leg). I'm happy to provide photographs. My body was covered in every crevice and surface with raised, blistering, bleeding hives and rash. I had nausea, chills, fatigue, and body aches along with this horrific skin reaction for over a week. It's deadly! Do not take this drug! Only had 2 capsules of 300 mg. Learned that anyone with autoimmune, blood sugar, or any other type of existing condition should never take this!"

For Surgical Prophylaxis "Not good. Broke out in a rash on day 7 of it all over. Lots of intense acid reflux too! I ended up stopping this a day early because of the side effects. Now, fast forward a month later, and here come all the digestive issues: diarrhea, mucus, bloating, and gurgling. A month after taking it, and the worst part is it's sporadic and comes out of nowhere. Absolutely terrible. Never taking it again."

For Bone infection "Was given clindamycin for 'cellulitis' or gout. Given anti-inflammatory shot and steroid shot and 4 days of prednisone and 7 days of clindamycin. Foot pain relief quickly, by day 5 of clindamycin, I developed a rash, itchy and burning from the chest area to below the knees. Pure torture. Went back to the doc and was given another steroid shot and 2 days of steroid to take at home. Given Pepcid tablet for 14 days. This antibiotic is not for me. Will never take again. Hopeful that this rash, itching, and burning soon goes away."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "I had some minor elective face surgery, and my plastic surgeon prescribed this antibiotic: 300 mg 3x daily. After taking the 4th pill, I noticed a metallic taste in my mouth, but I just dismissed this sign. A couple of hours after taking the 5th pill, I noticed my chest starting to get red and itchy, and then a few hours after that, I knew I was having an allergic skin reaction to this drug because I had a rash all over my body. I immediately stopped taking it and was instructed to take Benadryl. It has taken 2 days for my skin to calm down, however, I still do have a minor rash, which I'm hoping will clear up soon. Obviously, this medication did not agree with my body, so needless to say, I won't be taking this again, and I will be alerting my pharmacy about my allergy to it."

For Bacterial Infection "My dentist prescribed Clindamycin, 300 mg, for treating an infection of the gum prior to a root canal procedure later in one week. After taking it for 2 days, I noticed a heavy rash on both legs. I immediately stopped the use of Clindamycin. I had very bad diarrhea for 3 weeks. Within 24 hours after the endodontics completed a root canal on me, I got huge swelling in the left knee. I had to go to the ER due to swelling and pain. The doctor pulled 90 ml of fluid from my knee and tested for bacterial infection, which got a negative result. I took naproxen for swelling. The swelling of the left knee went down, but the right knee and other joints continued swelling for a month. My blood was tested for RA arthritis with a negative result. Not recommended."

For Bacterial Infection "I had 4 days of IV clinda in the hospital, and it did help my infection improve, however, it caused me to vomit nonstop for 3 days and I couldn't keep any food down at all, not even liquids, so I had to have IV glucose and salts. I got switched to Augmentin, which I have come home on, but since the last 2 days of the clinda, I have had diarrhea very badly with stomach pain and continued nausea. I also developed a rash over my chest, neck, and face for a day, which subsided after the last dose. Overall, this drug works but has some pretty uncomfortable side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was given clindamycin for bacterial vaginosis while pregnant. I had been on it once years before for something else, and it made me vomit once and mildly uncomfortable the rest of the time. This time, it has caused throat and chest pain and tightening, rash, horrible heartburn, and more. The doctor won't give me anything else, but I am beginning to think the BV is of less risk to the baby than this is. Never again."
