Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Today was my third colonoscopy; so almost a veteran. First the good part: this stuff is easy to use, no bad (but not good) taste, no side effects (no vomiting, headache, etc.), no abnormal discomfort, and produced the desired results (no detail necessary) in a reasonably quick time. The desired results were accomplished such that the doctor commented how squeaky clean my colon was. The slight downsides: - the split dose required doing this whole thing twice, including getting up at 2:30 a.m. (and of course not even thinking about going back to sleep right away) for a 7:30 a.m. appointment. - numerous trips to the bathroom for several hours after each of the two packets of stuff and fluids. - out-of-pocket cost was $120, seems EXCESSIVE."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Worst experience ever. Followed instructions to a tee, ate/drank only clear liquids. Drink plus water made me completely want to vomit. Started peak elimination about the time for my procedure. In and out of the bathroom in Johnny with IV. Excruciating headache still hours after the procedure, and my rectum is bleeding and so inflamed it feels like it’s on fire. And I’m still eliminating. I cannot believe they charge what they do for this poison. This was my third colonoscopy and my worst experience. Why do doctors prescribe this? So they can keep you coming back for more $$$$!!! Do not take this garbage!"

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I am 54 years old and in excellent health. I followed my doctor's orders leading up to taking this drug and only had clear liquids on the day before my colonoscopy. I took the first dose at noon and drank water as instructed. After 45 minutes, the cleansing started, but so did horrible side effects. I had a severe headache, extreme nausea, vomiting, and weakness. I was in agony for the next 4 hours when it was time for the second dose. I merely took two sips and vomited. I was very sick until midnight (12 hours) only after ingesting the first dose and had to cancel my procedure. It is 5 am the next morning, and I still don't feel well. I don't recommend this to anyone. Not worth the risk."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "This tasted horrible! I could hardly get the second dose down, I was gagging so badly! I followed the directions to the letter and still was not clean, so I have to have a repeat scope in a year. I will be asking for a different prep. I will take Mag Citrate over this any day. The only good thing was the bottles were small, but they might as well have been a gallon since I could hardly get them down. Do not recommend this prep!"

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Today made my third colonoscopy in 11 years. I know, gag. Prepopik was not good for me. I thought at first it was good because I only had to drink 5 oz., followed by 5-8 oz. glasses of clear liquid of my choice. I did it rather quickly because it was easier than Golightly. My stomach bloated, and I felt sick. It took the product over an hour to produce results. I also had a headache for the entire duration of the prep (1 1/2 days), a headache with a pain rating of 8-9. I did not vomit. The next day, I repeated the process. The second dose I finished, but same symptoms as before, except I vomited 1 1/2 hours later. BTW, you never get a clear stool with this product. I arrived for my test and was given Zofran to prevent vomiting again."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Used Clenpiq for bowel prep for my 2nd colonoscopy (1st time use as thought I might tolerate better than other prep). Managed to get the first bottle down holding my nose. The 2nd started vomiting halfway into it. I’m 107 lbs and the same prep is given to someone 300 lbs. It’s cranberry alright with a taste of vomit and Kaopectate and cough syrup. Whenever the pharmaceutical industry finds that TRUE “pleasant” tasting prep, you’ll be richer. Until then, you sell it erroneously. We should be paid to take it. But... it does clean you out."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "First time colonoscopy, so cannot compare other preps. Took the first dose at 4 pm, followed by five 8 oz water until 9 pm. This was gentle enough. Took the second dose at 9 pm followed by three 8 oz of water until midnight. Around 2:30 am, I woke up with extreme abdominal cramping. Had bowel movements, went to stand up and was dizzy, hot, and laid down on the floor with very hard abdominal cramping. Got a pillow and laid on the tile floor because I was too sick to return to bed. Also had a small amount of vomiting during this time. The doctor said I was clean for the procedure, but won't be taking this again for a prep unless they do something for the horrible cramping."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Highly recommended! I had my 10-year routine colonoscopy screening this morning and did the Clenpiq prep last night. The prep I took for my first colonoscopy (GoLightly?) made me so sick — chills, nausea, vomiting — but Clenpiq (like its predecessor Prepopik) made it a relatively painless process — no cramping or nausea at all, and the volume of prep is small and tastes fine, much better than the other stuff. And it did the job, doc said my colon was super clean. Prepopik lets you choose your own liquid as the “chaser” (I find that coconut water goes down the easiest), which is much more palatable than the giant vats of prep you have to drink with most of the other options."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I rate this a 1 because of my reaction to the product. I started vomiting within 10 minutes of taking the liquid. I was nauseous and vomiting for the entire night. I then got severe migraines to the point of almost going to the ER. The symptoms lasted well into the following day and even the day after."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Took the first bottle as prescribed at 4 p.m. and followed with the required 5/8 oz cups of water afterward. Immediately became nauseous. Kept going, but developed a terrible headache, and by the time midnight came around, was vomiting forcefully. Colonoscopy was not successful. Have to repeat next year. The taste is horrendous, and anybody picking up a prescription for this should be picking up one for Zofran (for the nausea and vomiting) in tandem."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I had my 8th colonoscopy today, and I must admit this was the best prep I've ever used. I went on the all-liquid diet yesterday morning and took my first dose at 5 p.m. last night. No nausea, gagging, or cramping. I had a slight headache. The prep took about an hour to kick in. I went to the bathroom off and on until midnight or so. I took the second dose this morning at 7:45 a.m. No problems handling this either. By the time I was ready to head to the surgicenter at noon, the remainder of my output was clear! My colonoscopy was negative, and the pictures of my colon were bright and shiny! I told my GI doctor about my experience with this prep. He was happy to hear that I had no problems. As noted by the others here, the prep is expensive. I had a coupon from my doctor and, with insurance, ended up paying $75."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Used the day-before protocol for my first colonoscopy scheduled for this morning. Took the first dose using a straw yesterday at 5 pm. The taste was a little nauseating, so I sucked on a lemon to help get it down. Felt a bit queasy on and off at first, but figured it would pass. Within an hour or so, the diarrhea started. But then, by the second hour, I was so nauseous and began vomiting. Couldn't even stomach a sip of water, so I was unable to follow the protocol of drinking 5 glasses before the next dose scheduled for 10 pm. Felt very weak. Couldn't take the second dose and couldn't even drink an ounce of liquid until after 1:30 am. Needless to say, I had to cancel the procedure. Horrible experience."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Horrendous experience. 2nd dose of Clenpiq gave me a bad headache, nausea, and projectile vomiting. My colon was not cleaned, and now I have to have a repeat colonoscopy. Now experiencing persistent cramping and diarrhea."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Clenpiq worked too well. The bowel movements were explosive and uncontrollable. I couldn’t make it to the bathroom. I vomited up the second dose at 4:00 am but was still prepped well enough for the procedure. While it was easy to drink, I wonder if it is too potent for an older woman."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I don't know why there are so many negative reviews of this. This was my third colonoscopy, and this was by far the easiest and most effective prep. The taste was not bad and much better than a gallon of the previous stuff. No bloating, cramping, or vomiting. Took the first dose at 6 PM and was going by 7. Took the second at 2:30 and was totally clean by 4:30."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "This was my third colonoscopy and had never had problems before with other prep kits. This one did me in. I woke up the day of the procedure feeling queasy, and sure enough, about 40 minutes after drinking the prep, I was vomiting profusely. I had to run to the drug store to get magnesium citrate to complete the process, but got sick after that as well. Luckily, I kept the latter down long enough to get the necessary effect. My gastro was not happy that I'd had the problem. He apologized profusely and said that was the last one he was prescribing. Too many patients were reporting problems."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Felt like I should contribute here since I came here before my prep to hear about other experiences with Clenpiq. Bottom line - very easy and smooth. I was very apprehensive and anxious about how I’d tolerate it and was very pleased. I ate a pretty simple diet 2 days before the prep, which may have helped? I also hydrated a lot during the day of the prep. First bottle at 6 pm (started at 5:50). Held my nose, sipped with a straw, chased it with lemon Gatorade, and then sucked on a lemon and barely tasted it. I used the full hour to take down the bottle and drink the 5 eight-ounce cups of water. Had first bathroom run at around 8 and then around 9. Second bottle at 11 pm. Went down just as easy, same method. Bathroom twice after that. Slept about 4 hours. Got up at 6 am to shower. Went again and got to appointment at 7 am. It really was easy. No gagging or nausea. Just felt a bit raw after so much time in the bathroom!"

For Bowel Preparation "Let me start off by saying the cranberry tastes like a Flintstone vitamin smoothie where you used spoiled milk. I took the first bottle at 5 pm. By 6:30 pm, the vomiting started and lasted until it was time to take the second bottle at 9 pm. It took everything I had to keep it down. I went to bed. So far, no bowel movement. I can’t say I’ve ever wished for explosive diarrhea, but last night I did. It had to be better than the vomiting. Then at 12:45, my wishes came true. Then again every 2 hours until my procedure at 7:30 am. It finally worked, but it was really rough getting there. This was only my second colonoscopy, but the first prep was more like a two-dose Alka-Seltzer, and I had no vomiting."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I just drank my first bottle about 15 minutes ago. I had to chase with Gatorade, though it didn’t make much difference. Left a horrible taste in my mouth, and I had to run to the bathroom right after because I thought I was going to vomit. I’m prepping for my 4th colonoscopy. I would’ve rather taken Miralax! Don’t take this stuff if you don’t have to, it tastes bad and was very expensive. ($30 for 2 bottles - 160 mL) Not sure how it’ll work, but vomiting isn’t in my plans today!"

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I took a packet at 6 pm after only having liquids for the whole day and had several bowel movements. It was nothing as intense as when I did other prep drinks, but I did go. When I did the second packet at 11 pm, I immediately vomited. It was pure water. I went to the colonoscopy anyway and told the nurse I vomited but thought I was empty. The doctor did the colonoscopy, but I was not prepped properly, so now I have to do it again! So annoying!!! I think this concentrated formula is too strong! Made me feel dizzy and very nauseous. Rather just use the old one."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "Took the first dose at 4 and second at 9 p.m. Woke up at 3 a.m. with severe chills, nausea, and vomiting that then triggered a migraine. Am very weak a day later and cannot remember most of the day yesterday when I had the colonoscopy."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I found the product to be easy to use. It wasn't as nasty as the other prep solutions, and at least I could get it down without vomiting. My biggest difficulty was opening the bottle. I have RA and live alone and had to have a neighbor open the bottles. I strongly suggest that the packaging be modified."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "I was absolutely terrified and a wreck with worry for 2 weeks before the colonoscopy. It was all for nothing. Clenpiq is amazing. I didn't think the taste was bad at all. I followed the directions to the letter and had NO nausea, cramps, or vomiting. It was gentle and barely fazed me. Several trips to the bathroom, not super urgent, flushed me out completely. The first bottle took 90 minutes to 'kick in,' and the second bottle took about an hour. Colonoscopy itself went great, hospital staff was super nice, I have no recollection of it -- came out of anesthesia feeling good. The worst part of the entire thing was the liquid diet the day before -- I was starving and weak but got through it. I know everyone's different, but for me, Clenpiq was truly a miracle drug, and I will definitely use it without hesitation if I have to do this again. Insurance partially paid, and my cost was $50. So worth it!"

For Bowel Preparation "Beware... this prep made me very nauseous. Drank the first bottle at 3 p.m., followed with 5 cups of water. By 8 p.m., I was dry heaving heavily, and this continued throughout the night. I could not stomach the 2nd bottle at 3 a.m. the following morning. Even water was making me gag at this point. The only good thing I can say about Clenpiq is that the first bottle I drank the afternoon before cleaned me out enough for my doctor to perform my colonoscopy anyway."

Citric acid/magnesium oxide/sodium picosulfate for Bowel Preparation "This is my fifth colonoscopy since my diagnosis and tried Prepopik on the advice of a friend. I had no cramps, vomiting, or pain. I drank the required amount of liquid as suggested and then some. I think that is key. It started working in about an hour. It tasted a bit better than the other preps, but the best thing was how little you had to drink. I heard no complaints from the doctor, and when I go back in 3 years, I will use this again."
