For Postpartum Depression "I started taking Celexa for postpartum depression about 2 years ago. Started at 20 mg and have been on 40 mg for over a year now. I'm not sure if it's related, but the past 6 months or so, I have had increasing muscle/joint pain, with fatigue and insomnia. I've been absolutely miserable. I will say that for the depression and mood swings, Celexa is great, provided you don't get the uncommon side effects."

For Depression "My daughter took this drug. Side effects, experiencing past two days, and I don't know how many more days: continual boxing with arms, can't sit still, cannot sleep, races around her room. She describes her condition right now as horrific, cannot take this any longer. I am very concerned about her, she lives five states away from me. I would not recommend this drug for anyone. The doctor described her condition as akathisia. Horrible!!"

For Anxiety and Stress "I was on this for 1 week, and it helped within that time, though I was switched off it due to my side effects, which included a loss of 13 lbs in 6 days, awful headaches, and insomnia. If you don't get those side effects, it is well worth persisting on."

For Depression "I have been on this almost a month. It doesn't seem to work every day. And the side effects are not so good either. I get headaches, yawning, can't sleep, and if I forget to take it that day, my belly hurts really bad, and I feel like throwing up. But I am giving it a little more time to get my body used to it. I hope I can find a better medicine or something."

For Postpartum Depression "I took citalopram for 10 days but had to stop due to an allergic reaction I got from it. Besides that, I could not sleep at night after taking the medication. Unfortunately, citalopram did not work for me at all."

For Depression "After the side effects wore off (2-4 weeks of occasional insomnia, heightened anxiety, bathroom issues, and no energy), my overall outlook on life was much more positive. I was laughing, taking on more work, taking care of myself, and feeling good. I didn’t notice much weight gain, but working in construction, between a slowed metabolism and the hard work, my weight remained within 2 pounds up or down. Unfortunately, I had a rare side effect creep up after 3 months of use, it induced TMJ in me to the point I couldn’t eat. I switched to escitalopram, and the TMJ subsided, but found that escitalopram did not work for me, and I actually gained weight very quickly. Mind you, I’ve been on Wellbutrin in conjunction with these medications without issue with W."

For Anxiety and Stress "This worked in the beginning, then it gave me insomnia, restless leg syndrome, shakes, and I felt angrier. I could no longer take it, I had to get off."

For Depression "I was diagnosed with Bipolar I a couple of months ago, and have already tried quite a few medicines. They all made me feel horrible! I wanted to avoid taking lithium, so my doctor tried me on Celexa for my depression and Lamictal for my mania. I've only been taking it for a week and feel great! I can't tell you how relieved I am to feel like a normal person, it's been a few years since I could actually say I feel normal. The only side effects of the Celexa I had were insomnia and yawning, and they're both already starting to go away. I'm very pleased with this medication."
