Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "This was used (without explaining risks) during oral surgery. My entire mouth area was and is numb. I can't eat, speak, or drink. It does not wear off as the dentist said it would. I would NOT recommend taking this."

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "I was given Exparel while under sedation for surgery. I had a very negative reaction to it upon waking up in the hospital. It made my entire left side go numb, including parts of my face (the injection site was my pelvis). My limbs were shaking uncontrollably, it made me extremely warm then cold - my temperature wouldn’t regulate correctly, it caused ringing in my ears, weakness, and a sensation like I was going to die. It was akin to a very severe anxiety attack. The worst part is that I am five days post-op, and it is still happening even though the drug is supposed to be completely out of my system by now. I wish someone had told me ahead of time that this was going to be administered to me."

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "I had a full rotator cuff tear, also ended up with a slap tear and bone spurs to be operated on in my right shoulder. I read horror stories about pain management after this surgery, so I was naturally very anxious. I asked my doctor about Exparel. She had never used it but agreed. I woke up from surgery, and my whole arm was numb, yes, my hand too, but I’ll pay that price any day. It continued to stay numb all the way through my first therapy appointment, in which my therapist was shocked that I couldn’t feel a thing as he manipulated my arm. That was 5 days after surgery. I was able to use very little pain medicine once I got feeling back. I am so thankful this worked so well for me. I just wish it had for everyone, because it can be a game changer."

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "Terrible drug! It was given without my knowledge during a laparoscopy… injected into my hypogastric nerves during surgery. My lower body up to my chest was numb for over a month. I still have many neurologic symptoms, and it has been 2 years since this was injected into me. Not enough data on this drug! You never want your nerves deadened for that long! Horribly life-changing!"

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "I was given Exparel after a pilonidal cyst removal and lift procedure. It has worked great. I only took one opioid pain pill just in case the first night of sleep. I did not even need it. I never took another and had absolutely no pain. Although it’s 7 days since surgery, I am still numb. It has worn off some, but I still think I’m about 50 percent numb. Hope it eventually wears off."

For Pain "What a nightmare! I was injected with this drug (without being instructed beforehand on the horrendous possible side effects). My mouth was completely numb for 3 days, but 2 weeks later, there is numbness through my entire body; especially my face and neck. This is a moneymaker drug for doctors. But they don’t tell you that the side effects can be permanent. This should not be on the market! They should have a black box warning! Do not take this drug!"

For Pain "Exparel given with dental implant. Nearly pain-free 2 immediate nights/days postoperative. Merely discomfort and numbness. Highly recommend, especially if it will decrease opioid use. Highly recommend."

Bupivacaine liposome for Postoperative Pain "I had Exparel before arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Man - this stuff is amazing! Within 10 min, my entire arm was dead weight. I felt absolutely no pain after surgery. I took NSAIDs and acetaminophen for inflammation, but I had no pain at all. On day two, post-surgery, the numbness started to wear off. I’m at day 4.5 post-surgery, and while I have regained feeling in most of my arm, the area where the three incisions are is still relatively numb. I expect to have full feeling back tomorrow. This numbness meant I really have not needed any narcotic pain medications. I did take narcotics on the second and third night to help me sleep (sleeping is just not easy), and because I was worried the pain would kick in. But it never really did. I’m not sure what tomorrow will be like when it’s no longer numb at the incision sites, but I’m thrilled that I have not had much pain at all and have not needed a bunch of narcotics."

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "Was given an injection of Exparel 3 weeks ago to put a drain in my mouth after oral surgery. That area of my mouth is still numb along with 3 teeth. I hope it wears off at some point."

Bupivacaine liposome for Pain "My teenage twins had their deeply impacted wisdom teeth removed 3 days ago, and today is the first day one of them felt pain. Their mouths were extremely numb for about 8 hours after surgery, and they had a hard time drinking because they couldn’t feel their lips or tongue. Exparel definitely worked and kept them out of pain, so I recommend it for wisdom teeth removal. (They also are taking 800 mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. They’re big boys.)"
