Budesonide "This has been a miracle medication for me. The cost is a bit high, but the benefits outweigh the cost. I receive the same benefits as I do from Prednisone, however, with none of the side effects. It works very fast for me. I really think people who have to use prednisone should reconsider and try this medication for moderate flares. I have had Crohn's disease for 33 years, this is the only medication (except prednisone) that has worked ever so well."

Budesonide "This medication worked great the first time I was diagnosed with Crohn's. No side effects that I noticed, and it started working very quickly. Several months later, I had another flare and tried it again, and it did not work for me. It was certainly worth a try to avoid the harmful side effects of other medications. I took this medicine along with Pentasa, which I use every day and still like."

"I have had Crohn's for over forty years. I have taken prednisone for flare-ups but very little other medications. I have had a few major flares in the last 5 years that have landed me in the hospital. My GI doctor put me on budesonide for 2 months. During that time I had greatly reduced symptoms. This week I finished the course of budesonide. Within 3 days of discontinuing the drug, my symptoms of bloating, gas, lower right abdominal pain, and GERD have returned. The change was dramatic. It has only been a few days, but I'm wondering what the long-term effects of budesonide are."

"It has helped my Crohn's symptoms tremendously, especially my abdominal pain and nausea. Later, my diarrhea was much improved, going from all (5-8) loose stools per day to 2-4 solid or semi-solid stools a day. For the first week, I was extremely tired with this medication, sleeping 12+ hours for a few days. That improved quickly, and I was able to manage after that with increased caffeine intake. If I had known about this, I would have started my course on a Thursday or Friday morning to be ready for the next week. It also cleared a small spot of what was believed to be psoriasis on my wrist. That cleared up after about 3 weeks, and I saw a dermatologist for it at week 4. Based on a photo and the Crohn's, it was assumed to be psoriasis. I'm taking budesonide 3 mg delayed-release capsules, 3 capsules each morning. My original course was 28 days. I started to decline quickly after stopping, so I am back on it. My GI, rheumatologist, and dermatologist are probably putting me on Humira."

"I have taken budesonide capsules for two months for treatment of Crohn's disease. I have experienced less stomach cramps while on it and fewer trips to the toilet. Unfortunately, the side effects have been daily heart palpitations and chronic headaches. I have only managed 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night over the course of treatment due to waking up with a rapid heartbeat. I will be having an ECG ASAP. Colonoscopy booked."

Budesonide "VERY good medication! I had uncontrolled Crohn's for many years (no medicine would work for me). My gastroenterologist decided to try this one and it was a life saver. I couldn't go out before (even for groceries!). It didn't take very long to get the full effects from it, and though the cost is higher than with the other medicines, I am more than willing to pay it to get my life back. I could only get relief from prednisone before this medicine came along but had terrible side effects from it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for some relief for Crohn's. Good luck to all with this debilitating disease."
