For Narcolepsy "I am a student. Was having sudden sleep blackouts when reading or sitting in lecture. Also 'brownouts' where, for example, listening to someone talk, I suddenly shut down and 'sleep,' but they think I am wide awake. Brownouts not good for driving! So, the first day I took it, I read 3 chapters for a test that was two hours away. I stayed alert and retained every bit. No more blackouts or brownouts. Headache for the first week or so. Also, for the first few days, I hardly slept. Even stayed up all night a few times. I have learned to tweak it a bit, break the tablets, take a small amount at first and more later if I need it, but not overdo it. No changes in personality, other than being more competent at life."

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "This medicine does a great job! I thought, 'Wow, I've finally found something to help me make it through the night without side effects. Almost.' On my second prescription, I developed scattered hives. My doctor said to take an antihistamine and try again, since it hadn't done this before. I thought that might work until I got hives in more and more places each time I took it (I only take it when needed). When I developed the hives in very personal places, that's when I decided I have no choice but to not take it. I don't know why it took so long to cause an allergic reaction. I wish it didn't, because it really does work great. I'm hoping to find something else that does the same thing that I'm not allergic to."

For Depression "I have used Provigil and now am on Nuvigil that helps for various issues. I realized I may have an attention problem when I took Provigil for the first time and scored 10-30 points higher than I ever have on a vocational rehab IQ test. For those of you who are low income, there is a foundation called Cephalon Cares that gives me my medication for free. You have to be under a certain income level, but it saves me much money since I do not have insurance either."

For Drowsiness "I have found it to be very smooth, have needed to take two per day, one early AM and the second one about noon to make it all day. No more trouble sleeping than normal. No shakiness or jitters, appetite seems normal. One tablet (150 mg) was no help. I seem to be more productive during the day. No nausea or headaches, dizziness. I feel like I get along with it just fine."

For Narcolepsy "I started taking Nuvigil after having taken Adderall XR for 4 years. I like Nuvigil better because there is no feeling of artificial energy. The only thing that Adderall has over Nuvigil is that it lasted all day. I've experimented a little, and I've found that if I take 1/2 of the pill about 1 to 1 1/2 hours before my day starts and the other half at about 1, it gets me through the day better than taking it all at once. Also, even with my insurance and the savings card, I still have to pay $89. It's worth it though."

For Drowsiness "This medicine was the best thing that ever happened to me. That is, during the short amount of time that it actually did work. The side effects and its ability to keep me awake came on hard and strong. I was emotionally unstable for about 3 days, but that passed quickly. Then I was off to bigger and better things. I was busy all the time and started accomplishing things. I also started to lose a little weight and morphed into this social butterfly. It was awesome. Then it started to level off, and before I knew it, I was napping again and back to my usual depressed self. The doctor kept upping the dosage till I got to the highest dosage twice a day, and it still didn't work. So I've been taken off Nuvigil and am moving on to some other ADHD meds."

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "My sleep doctor, I use a CPAP every night, gave me a sample to try as I work a 'baby owl' shift from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am. Best way to describe this medicine is a slow-release caffeine pill. However, zero jitters and zero overactive bladder. No buzz, no altered feelings of any kind. I can focus better with this in my system. If I can get a full six hours on my CPAP and take a 250 mg pill an hour before my shift, I can get my job done with an amazing amount of focus. My insurance was slow to cover, and even with them covering over half of the cost, these little pills cost a bundle. Worth it for me, as I was spending close to the same amount per month on Red Bull and coffee."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "Have been taking Provigil for several years, after a head injury, to help with fatigue and focus. Lost my job, and no health insurance, so decided to try a 14-day free sample of Nuvigil while waiting for prescription assistance. Was taking 100 mg Provigil 1-2 times a day, and it helped a lot when I needed it (I went through phases of taking and then not taking it as needed). On Nuvigil, I was severely manic yesterday (2nd day at 150 mg) to the point where my friends were concerned about me. Felt jittery, and my friends said it looked like I was high. Felt a little like the couple of days when my doctor tried me on Adderall. I think I will wait until I get the Provigil approved."

For Narcolepsy "I like the Nuvigil. My mother takes the Provigil, and it works very well for her. My first day on Nuvigil, I was awake and able to make it through the whole day without sleeping, no tiredness in my body or mind. After about a week, I find I am in more control of when I want to sleep. I have no side effects at all. At first, I took it with food, then I tried it without food. I think with food is better because I guess it is absorbed slower. It is easy to take, and I am more productive."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "Nuvigil was a blessing when I started it 18 months ago. I was alert and focused, not depressed, and retained my creativity! I think I've become dependent upon it since I feel awful without it. This week, the doctor wants me to try going to 250 mg since I've been a bit down with shorter days and less focused. Due to cardiac conditions, amphetamines are not really a safe option. All said, at age 51, it's been pretty much a wonder drug treating multiple conditions."

For Fibromyalgia "I took this to help with the endless, debilitating fatigue I have from fibromyalgia. It didn't relieve my physical or mental fatigue at all, but it did keep me awake until three in the morning (I took it about 11 a.m.). I felt jittery and feverish (no actual fever, though). It kept me going all day, but I still had the heavy, uncomfortable feelings of physical and mental fatigue."

For Narcolepsy "Works well at the right dose. I am not afraid to drive now, and I don't zone out at work anymore. That being said, it is really a shame that it is entirely too expensive, and I won't be able to continue taking it. With my insurance, it is still about $190 per month or three house payments a year for me! WOW!"

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 5 years ago. I use a bilevel CPAP every night. I am a 60-year-old male. I have chronic and severe back pain also. Between the sleep apnea and pain meds, I was sleeping up to 18 hours a day. After finally getting insurance coverage for Nuvigil 150 mg, I started it about 5 months ago. I take it every day. The first day I took it, I was up for 20 hours straight and felt better than I had in 15 years. This drug worked great. A couple of days ago, something happened. All of a sudden, I'm back to spending all day in bed and can't stay awake. I don't know what happened. Hopefully, next week when I see my doctor, I can find out. I hope I don't need a stronger dose already."

For Shift Work Sleep Disorder "I've been on Nuvigil 150 mg for over a week now. I work rotating shifts at work five days a week. I have had several side effects that were not the best, however, the benefits have outweighed the risks. I have noticed that I can actually stay awake and not have the overwhelming urge to sleep, which to me is wonderful to be able to function like a normal person again. I'm still tired, though, but functioning, and at the end of the day, that is all I can ask for!"

For Drowsiness "I was prescribed Provigil about 3 years ago to counteract excessive daytime sleepiness resulting from chronic insomnia. The dosage was set at 400 mg/day; 200 mg in the morning and 200 mg after lunch. Over the course of a normal workday, I would experience a significant rush and crash cycle with each pill and had the odd feeling of being anxious and tired at the same time. The effectiveness of the last pill would fade away well before the end of the work shift. I was recently prescribed Nuvigil and have taken it for about a week. So far, I haven't experienced the rush/crash cycle associated with Provigil, and it seems to last much longer. I take a single dose of 250 mg in the morning and usually feel the effect within an hour. Okay so far."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I have CFS/Fibromyalgia as a result of a TTP episode that almost killed me. Ever since the TTP episode, I have never been the same. I had to leave my job that I loved dearly. The Fibromyalgia has destroyed my quality of life as I knew it before my illness. I started seeing a Fibro specialist who worked with me and came up with the idea to try Provigil to increase my quality of life. That worked great, but the problem was the cost and insurance not being willing to cover it. So, we decided to try Nuvigil because it was half the cost of the Provigil (over $600 for 30 pills), Nuvigil I could get for about $311.00 for 30 250mg tablets, but insurance still won't cover it for my conditions. This gave me my life back to some degree."

For Bipolar Disorder "I took Nuvigil for the first time, and I found myself less tired and more active than ever. I have severe depression and stay tired a lot. For years, I haven't been myself, as for being active, I was an athlete for half my life, and I knew what being in shape felt like, but with aging, I fell into depression and bipolar. Still too early to say, but Nuvigil made a positive difference for at least one day of my life."

For Narcolepsy "Was diagnosed with depression, then bipolar, then bipolar narcolepsy. The cocktail I was on for well over a year was 5 mg Abilify, 60 mg Cymbalta, and 250 mg Nuvigil. Recently came off the Abilify, and I can't even explain how good I felt, not high, not mania, just that 'finally, just me' feeling. I was content with life, at peace, and for the first time in YEARS, I was even happy! After a week of no Abilify, we decided to begin weaning off the Nuvigil. Been taking 150 mg Nuvigil and 60 mg Cymbalta for a week now and feel horrible. Don't care about a thing, no motivation, tired, etc. Doc said give it a month. Hope I can last that long. I just want ME back, as does my wife and kids."

For Narcolepsy "Works very well at keeping me awake. No euphoria like amphetamines, very few side effects in fact aside from a very mild headache, which aspirin can fix. It seems like all it does is remove my chronic fatigue without giving extra energy. Perfect in my opinion. Anxiety can be a problem, especially at the 250 mg dose. If it is a problem, I would recommend breaking the 250 mg in half and taking them several hours apart, which also helps with the late afternoon crash. If you have high blood pressure or heart problems, probably not a good idea to take it. Also, there is a generic, not sure of the price difference."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I am a 32-year-old male, and this is my second day on Nuvigil. Although I feel more alert at the start of the day, later in the day, when the medicine wears off, oh boy, does it wear off. I'm also feeling more hyper, moody, and an overall wanting to scream type of feeling. I'm going to give it a few more days."

For Drowsiness "I struggle daily with falling asleep no matter where I am because of my multiple sclerosis-related fatigue. Nuvigil helped me stay awake and didn't change my sleep patterns at night. Too bad my insurance won't pay for it! See, I don't have a sleep disorder. No, instead, I have a chronic illness!"

For Drowsiness "I have anxiety/panic attacks and fibromyalgia. Fun! So, unfortunately, I get sick with Lyrica at higher doses, where it actually kills the fibromyalgia pain. After months of trial and errors, we've finally found that 100 mg of Pristiq, 20 mg of Methadone, 225 mg of Lyrica, and 300 mg of Tramadol is the only thing that will stop the pain. For the anxiety, the Pristiq helps, and also 3 mg of Klonopin stops the panic (also took months of trial and error in addition to therapy). With this large amount of depressant-style drugs, at times it was very hard for me to stay awake during the daytime. 150 mg of Nuvigil, for me, has totally solved this problem. The first week I felt strange and overstimulated, and now I just feel normal and awake, from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I have sleep apnea and am a homeschooling mom of 3. Today was my first day taking this medicine, and I have made it through the whole day without somehow trying to make time to take a nap. It was actually a very productive day for me! I am so happy to maybe have finally found my miracle. I hope the progress continues, and I will write again soon to update the progress. It is 6:30 pm, and I am still okay. Laundry is going, dishes are done, and I am good."

For Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "'This is the best medicine I've taken in 20 years.' These are the words I told my doctor after taking Nuvigil. I had major depression, major allergy, irritable bowel syndrome, and sleep apnea. You name the medicine, I took it, and it didn't work. So I didn't think this would either. I took one 150 mg in the morning, and it gave me a headache, but noticed it stopped my IBS all day. So, I cut it in half the next day, and it worked wonderfully for all my symptoms. It also helped my sex drive big time! Which was totally unexpected. It's the only medicine I need/take, but it's expensive."

For Depression "Started at 150 mg, took half a day and felt like a new person - it changed my life. Quickly found I need to take the full tablet to get the same effect. Three months ago, doctor increased to 250 mg, take full tablet, but the effect only lasts 3-4 hours. Your body becomes immune and needs more and more. And now I 'crash' early afternoon and become very depressed. Took appetite away, lost 20 lbs in a little over a year."
